Rainfall
The Day That The Rain Fell, And Washed Away The Tears
Load Full Story"I'm so sorry for your loss."
Twilight had heard that so many times today that it seemed like a blend of words that no longer fit together or had any true meaning. The rainfall hid her tears as she wept silently on her way back from the hospital. Twilight looked up at the sky what was covered in a blanket of dark grayish clouds; the Princess Of Friendship thought about what her and certain firey Alicorn would be doing on a dreary day like this one; the memories of countless nights curled up next to a fire, reading together or making origami with Spike punctured her mind like a bullet. Twilight looked down at her hooves and started dragging herself to her castle while carrying a box of ashes with her magic, under her wing. Twilight imagined the warmth of her companion next to her, wishing that: rather than the cold hard box, Sunset's soft warmth was there. She wished her smile was there, her laugh - anything. Even an angry Sunset was better than no Sunset.
I will always love you
A pang of hurt ripped through Twilights' chest as she heard the last words of her marefriend, everything seemed to travel in slow motion for her after those words were said. Nothing seemed truly real. She couldn't comprehend the idea of living on without Sunset Shimmer.
Each one of her friends tried to comfort her that day, Pinkie offered cakes and treats, Rainbow offered a first edition Daring Doo, Rarity made her a scarf with Sunset and Twilights cutie mark on it; Applejack and Fluttershy both offered her kind words. Each one would tell her that it wasn't her fault, that she couldn't of stopped it, but their efforts were wasted. Twilight knew what she had done and because of it; Sunset had suffered. Twilight's heart was broken, she saw no light in the path ahead of her, and it was her fault.
The silhouette of her castle grew more refined as she got closer, the castle seemed to become more desolate with every step she took. As the rain got heavier, Twilight only held the box tighter with her wing.
Icicles grew in Twilights heart and froze her lungs as another pony gave her a sympathetic smile when she walked past. Twilight forced a small smile of acceptance, but she couldn't help but pick up her pace, she had to be alone.
As she reached the daunting castle doors that once seemed full of life, they now looked as if they were staring down upon her, taunting her for her mistake. Twilight pushed past the large doors that screamed at her as she walked through the hallways of her castle, Twilight hadn't ever heard a silence quite so loud.
She caught a glimpse of the throne room, each of her friends were on their thrones with depressed looks on their faces, Pinkies hair no longer stood up, Rainbows wings were tucked away and her face was in her hooves, Applejack and Rarity comforted a crying Fluttershy. Spike was no where to be seen.
There were four other figures in the room, three Alicorns and one big brother; none of which she wanted to talk to.
"Twily, I'm so sorry......" Shining started as he walked closer to his little sister but stopped dead in his tracks after he realized that he had no idea how to finish. Even if he did, he knew that saying anything would even help. After seeing the emptiness in his little sister's eyes Shining was at a loss for words.
Cadence walked up next to Shining and put a hoof on his sholder. "If there is anything we can do, anything at all. Just let us know." Cadence offered kindly while Luna and Celestia gave her sympathetic looks. Twilight could see the tears eating away at Celestia's eyes as she refused to cry for her student in front of anyone, Luna stood extra close offering support for her sister.
Even though Twilight loved them, their words fell upon deaf ears, Twilight could only hear Fluttershys tiny sobs and the screaming from last night.
The distraught Alicorn walked past the room her friends and family were in, heading past her and Spikes room, she dragged herself to the end of the hallway, where a door with a yin and yang sun was imprinted in crystals in the middle.
Twilight opened the doors to feel a tidal wave of tears hit her as she saw Spike sitting on Sunsets' old bed holding a picture of the three of them.
"We were just starting to get close." Spike said with sadness overflowing his voice.
"O-oh S-Spike, I'm so sorry, this is all m-my fault." Twilight sniffled through her tears and walked up next to the bed.
Spike frowned and looked at his paws. "No Twilight, it was an accident, it could've happened to anyone."
Twilight hugged Spike and they both let themselves be consumed by the sobs and tears that couldn't be held back any longer.
"Twilight, can we sleep in here tonight?"
The Alicorn just nodded, no words would come out of her mouth. Twilight climbed on the bed next to Spike and they both curled up, the murky blackish sky indicated that Celestia had lowered the sun and Luna had taken hold of the night. But the storm clouds did not quell.
Twilight shut her eyes and for the last time whispered "Goodnight Sunset Shimmer." Twilight drifted of to an empty slumber. However, in that slumber, Twilight encountered a white orb, and from it came a familiar voice.
Twilight, never ever blame yourself. No one could've predicted what was to come, even though the worst case happened: it's okay. I don't have to come back for you to know that I'm with you. I'll always be with you. This is not the end, it just means it's time for a new beginning. And who knows, starting a new journey might not be so hard. I love you Twilight Sparkle and if you ever loved me, you'll enjoy your life. We will meet again my little book worm; don't fret.
I may be gone from your sight, but never your memories.
I am gone from your touch, but NEVER your heart.
Goodnight to you two, Twilight Sparkle.
Twilight opened her eyes after hearing the end of Sunset Shimmer's speech, her heart hoping, begging that Sunset was in the room, while her mind and her eyes told her Sunset wasn't. Twilight looked at the snoring baby dragon next to her as she thought about Sunset Shimmer. Twilight knew she had to move on, but she would never forget her best friend, her soul mate, Sunset Shimmer.
