Day one: The Interview

Previous Chapter

Clang, clang, clang. I sat up in my bed and gazed around wildly. It was morning. I groaned in annoyance as I laid back down. I was having such a good dream. It was about her again. of her long, flowing pink mane, Her soft blue/green eyes seemed to sparkle as she gazed upon me. Oh how I wished I could see her one last time. I laid there for what seemed like hours just thinking about her, when there came the sound of my door opening. I glanced over at the guard as he sat a tray of food down on the small table in my cell. As he turned to leave I said softly, “thank you”

He said nothing as he exited the cell. They never did. I sat up in my cot and looked over at the meal, Bread with a slice of cheese. Grimacing I got up and grabbed the bread, leaving the cheese on the tray. I hated cheese. Sitting back down on the cot I took a small bite of the bread. Stale…. It was always stale…. Once I finished off the bread I laid back down. It had gotten quiet; hopefully I could get some sleep. But I was mistaken… the world seemed to be against me…. Just as I was drifting off to sleep, the door to my cell opened. With a groan I opened my eyes and sat up. As I looked over at who entered I was caught by surprise. The mare that stood before me was none other than Envious Sin, the pony who had stopped me from finishing my last victim and brought about my imprisonment. Her deep purple eyes bore into my skull as she walked over to the chair that sat next to the small table.

“Hello again.” I said in a cold voice. She nodded slightly as she examined me.

“Hello to you too.” She said as she leaned forward in the chair. Her dark gray and blue mane fall slightly, covering even more of her face then it already did.

“You might be wondering why I am here-”

“Yes I am. Honestly I had hoped id never see you again….” I looked back at her just as coldly as I spoke. She was so irritating, acting like she was better than me. She smiled, the sight made me want to puke.

“Charming as always I see. Well, no matter. I’m not here to exchange pleasantries.” She said in a low, almost growling tone, narrowing her eyes as she did.

“Then why are you here?” I snapped. She simple sighed softly as she placed her elbow on her knee, and then leaned her head on her hoof.

“I am here to interview you. As you know I am a writer of sorts” she said as she tilted her head slightly indicating her cutie mark, which was of an open book and feather quill “and you have caught my attention.” She finished with a soft smile. I looked at her skeptically.

“So you want to write a book about me?” I asked. She nodded softly.

“Yes my dear I do. Many have wondered why you have chosen this life of yours. Why you wanted to kill and all. Not to mention a certain yellow Pegasus is curious as to why you spared her life.” I sat up strait at the mention of my love.

“She- she thinks about me?”

“Well I can’t really say if she does or not. Just that she wants to know why you didn’t kill her when you had the chance to.” She smiled softly as she sat back in the chair, adjusting her wings slightly as she did.

“So are you going to share with me your grim story and answer her question or not?” I sat there in silence as I contemplated the answer. I honestly considered telling her my life story. It would’ve been grand to have a book written about my deeds. But no, I didn’t what HER of all ponies to know. I’d only be doing want she wanted and I wasn’t going to give it to her.

“No. I will give you the answer to her question and that will be it.” I said as I looked away from her. I quickly turned back to her as she started to laugh softly. She had her eyes closed and was shaking her head slightly as she continued to laugh. With a snarl I glared at her. Was she really laughing at me? I hated being laughed at. She sat forward as she wiped away a tear of mirth.

“Oh do forgive me. You see I wasn’t really asking you. My question was rhetorical” Her face soon turned from amused to grim. I shrank back against the wall slightly as she glared at me. Her dark purple eyes seem to become even darker, almost looking black as she snarled.

“Look, you and I both know I’m no ordinary Pegasus. Unlike every pony else in this celestia forsaken world I’m not sweet and kind. If you don’t tell me your story I will go to your precious pony and tell her you thought she was to weak and pathetic to even bother to kill her and she was only a toy to you.”
I sat up with a start. She wouldn’t, she couldn’t tell her such a thing. My beloved would be so upset. I didn’t want her to think that what we had was a lie. I sighed in defeat and looked at her forlornly.

“Fine…. I’ll tell you… just- just don’t lie to her….” I said as I hung my head. The mare in front of me just looked at me, seemingly deciding something.

“Alright. I won’t. as long as you tell me your story.” She said as she adjusted her position on the chair. With a deep sigh I nodded and prepared myself for what I was about to do. In truth I’ve never told anypony about what happened, and why I became a murderer. But I guess it was better now than never.

“my story… like so many others started when I was a foal…”
