A Dash of Happiness Soared Through the Skies

Chapter 27: Presents

Rainbow Dash beamed as sunlight poured into the dark room.

It was the crack of dawn, and she was already wide awake, breathing in the fresh air around her. She looked besides her, and saw her coltfriend sprawled out on the bed in the most ridiculous pose ever. Dash fought back a giggle, once she saw his drooling face.

She rolled her eyes, and put her hooves to his back.

"Soarin! Wake up! Wake up! It's Hearths Warming!" She whisper-shouted, shaking him violently. Soarin snorted loudly, before opening his eyes a crack.

"What happened?" He asked groggily. Dash frowned.

"Soarin! Wake up! It's Hearths Warming!" She repeated. Soarin opened his eyes a little more, and gave her a small smile.

"I bet you can't wait to see my present!" She said, teasing him slightly. Soarin grinned.

"What do you mean? I'm staring right at it!" He said, tickling her slightly. She blushed profusely.

"Awe... Thanks. But seriously! Get up! I wanna give you your present before everypony else wakes up!" She said, pushing him off the bed. He groaned, as his fur made contact with the cold wooden floors of the house. He shook his head, and slowly got up.

"Alright, alright! I'm up! Sheesh woman..." He said, before leading her out of the room. Dash grinned in satisfaction, and trotted out the door, Soarin following close behind.

The two made their way downstairs, where Firefly and Blaze were sitting in front of the fireplace. Each of them had a gift in their hooves, and it looked like they were about to exchange.

Dash and Soarin trotted downstairs, and the minute they set their eyes on the older couple, Dash groaned.

"Great. I was really looking forward to some alone time." She mumbled underneath her breath, just loud enough for Soarin to hear her. He grinned, and wrapped his hooves around her.

"We'll have plenty of time for that later." He said simply. Dash smiled, and nodded.

It was then when Firefly and Blaze noticed the two standing over there. They gestured them over.

Soarin and Dash made their way to Dash's parents, before sitting themselves down in front of the tree. Dash glanced at her parents, who quickly went back to giving each other their gifts, before turning to Soarin.

Dash reached underneath the tree, and pulled out a package. It was a light blue box with a single yellow ribbon going around it. She held it out to Soarin, who smiled, and took it.

Carefully, he unwrapped the present, making sure he didn't rip the insides.

First, he grabbed the gold card, and opened it.

Soarin,

Here's a little something I made myself.

Love ya you big goof.

Dashie.

Soarin smiled up to Rainbow, who was looking up at him with a hopeful grin.

He then proceeded to opening the main gift, lifting the box open with a swift motion of his hooves, he gasped at what he saw inside.

It was a pie!

And not just any pie... It was an apple pie! His favorite!

Soarin stared at the pie in awe with an amazed look.

"Don't ask me how I managed to keep that inside a box. Pinkie Pie helped me with that part... But I did the rest! Made the pie myself. It wasn't easy, I'll tell you that..." Dash said nervously. She looked at Soarin, who had an unreadable expression on.

"You hate it don't you? I knew it! I'm so sorry, Soarin! I'll get you something else to make up for it! Promise!" She stammered out. Soarin's eyes widened, and he looked up to his marefriend.

"Dash?" He asked her in a soft voice. Dash slung her ears down, and nodded.

"Yeah?"

"This is the sweetest thing anypony's ever done for me. Thank you." Soarin said, before placing the pie down, and proceeding to give his marefriend the biggest hug ever.

She squeaked in surprise, but giggled, and wrapped her hooves around him in return.

After a few minutes, the two let go of each other, and Soarin grabbed Dash's present out from underneath the tree.

"Here you go," he said in a tender voice. "Hope you like it..."

Dash, unlike Soarin, grabbed the paper with her teeth, and ripped it open with a single tug. She grabbed the card, and scanned the text, her smile getting bigger by the second.

My sweet, beautiful little Dashie,

Can you believe it's already been almost five months since I asked you out?

But one thing's for certain, when I first laid my eyes on you, I had no idea I would the lucky stallion that would end up standing by your side. I only asked myself, "Who is that beautiful mare?"

Rain, you have no idea how much I love you.

I hope we can spend our entire lives together, and no matter what, always know that I'll always stick by your side.

I'm never letting you go.

My only wish on this Christmas is that you'll love me as much as I love you.

Rainbow looked up to the baby blue stallion, tears daring to fall out of her eyes. She had no idea he loved her this much!

"Soarin... I... I..." She stammered, tears starting to fall freely down her cheek.

Rainbow then burst into tears, taking her stallion into her open hooves. He smiled into her back, and rubbed it with his hoof.

"Soar... I love you too... Much more than you know..." She whispered into his ear, before giving him a light kiss on the cheek. He smiled tenderly at her, and wiped a few tears away.

"Don't you wanna open your present?" He asked with a grin. Dash returned it, before ripping open the box. Soarin winced at her strength.

"Well that's definitely one way to open a gift." He mumbled underneath his breath.

Dash gasped as her eyes set on the object inside.

It was a book.

But not just any book.

It was the Wonderbolt's Guidebook.

"It's my own personal copy. But since you're on your way to becoming a Wonderbolt, I thought you might like to preview everything?" He asked her hopefully. Dash's jaw fell to the ground, as she stared at the book.

"Soarin... THIS IS SO AMAZING!" She shouted, leaping back into the stallion's hooves. He grinned, and hugged her back.

"Thank you... SO MUCH!" She yelled again, before gasping, and covering her mouth. She didn't want to wake anypony up! Soarin chuckled.

"It was no problem at all, Dashie. I love you." He said. Dash smiled.

"I love you too."
