A Dash of Happiness Soared Through the Skies

Chapter Four: Dinner

After putting all her stuff in their required place, Rainbow Dash and Hibiscus Wings set off to the mess hall for dinner, using this time to chat.

"So! I saw you talking to Soarin over there..." Hibiscus said, determined to steer the conversation to her own interests. Dash chuckled.

"Well, yeah. Your eyes saw correctly. I was talking to him..." Dash said, trailing off at the end. Hibiscus raised an eyebrow.

"Is there anything going on between the two of you?" She asked her. Dash instantly did a double take.

"Are you kidding me? No way! We're just friends! We met when I saved him, Spitfire, and Misty Fly at the Best Young Flyer Competition a few years ago. We've met on and off a couple times after that... But that's it!" Dash said. Hibiscus nodded slowly.

"Oh... Well okay then. You saved him?" She asked curiously. Dash nodded.

"Yeah... My friend Rarity had fake wings on for a few days, and decided to enter the competition beside me. When she went up near the sun, her wings burned up, and evaporated. She started falling to her doom, and the Wonderbolts tried to save her. But they ended up getting kicked in the face by Rarity. I saw what was going on, and I flew as fast as I could to save them all. I ended up going so fast, I performed a sonic rainboom, and saved the four of them." Dash said, recalling the events of that day.

"Woah girl... That's pretty... Amazing!" Hibiscus said. Dash blushed modestly.

"Hehe... Thanks." She said, putting a hoof behind her head.

The two mares entered the mess hall together, and went to the line for food.

"What can I get you?" The lunch mare asked them, gesturing to the two options available. There was spaghetti, or a dandelion sandwich. Deciding she wanted something light, Dash ordered the sandwich. As did Hibiscus.

The two exited the line, each grabbing a single water bottle, and made their way to the tables.

They grabbed the nearest seat, which was at a table of four. The other two seats were already occupied by the other two mares with invitations. Cloud Ember, and Lightning Tile.

"Hey guys. What's up?" Ember greeted. Dash and Hibiscus nodded towards her.

"Well, nothing much, really." Hibiscus answered. Dash nodded.

"What she said." Dash said simply. Ember and Lightning nodded. Lightning looked over Dash's shoulder to the table where all the Wonderbolts were sitting, and slightly swooned in her seat.

"Isn't he gorgeous?" She asked. Ember rolled her eyes, and went back to her spaghetti. Hibiscus raised an eyebrow.

"Who?" She asked, clearly confused. Lightning scoffed.

"Soarin, of course! I guarantee you, by the end of this fiasco, he'll be mine!" She said, taking a spoonful of spaghetti into her mouth. Dash narrowed her eyebrows.

"Is that the only reason your here? To meet Wonderbolts?" She asked suspiciously. Lightning scoffed again.

"Of course! Why else would I waste my time here?" She replied snootily.

"Oh I don't know? Maybe to become a Wonderbolt?" Dash asked rhetorically. Lightning shook her head.

"Whatever. He will still be mine. Oh look! He's coming here!" Lightning said excitedly. Dash turned her head, and sure enough, Soarin was making his way to their table.

"Hi girls. You enjoying you time here so far?" He asked the four mares. Lightning instantly got up, and started smiling flirtatiously.

"I am now that you're here!" She said smoothly. Soarin opened his mouth to respond, but decided better of it.

"Anyway... Rainbow Dash, could I speak with you for a minute?" Soarin asked Dash. Dash looked up from her dinner with a confused look.

"Uh... Sure..." She replied uncertainly. Soarin smiled.

"Great. Follow me." Soarin said, as he lead Dash out of the room. Dash looked back at the three other mares.

"I'll meet you back in the cabins." She said, ignoring the death glares she was receiving from Lightning Tile. She got up, and went after Soarin.

Once the two were outside the mess hall, Soarin led Dash to a deserted hallway.

"So... What was that all about?" He asked her. Dash giggled uncharacteristically.

"Wow... She is so gullible. Lightning Tile thinks your hers." Rainbow Dash said, bursting into a fit of giggles at the end. Soarin looked at her curiously.

"Oh... Well, whatever. I'm not all that effected by that. I've encountered many fanfillies in my day..." Soarin said. This arose a question in Rainbow's mind.

"Just how old are you?" She asked him. Soarin chuckled.

"Well that's a nice question." He told her, still laughing to himself. Dash frowned.

"Sorry... I didn't mean it like that..." She said. Soarin smiled.

"Oh that's fine! I'm only nineteen." He said. Rainbow stared at him.

"What?" He asked her. She instantly snapped out of it.

"Oh! Sorry... It's just that I didn't expect you to be so young..." She said, trailing off at the end. Soarin couldn't help himself anymore. He burst out laughing uncontrollably.

"What happened?" She asked him curiously.

"Wow Dash... Your the gullible one. I'm actually twenty four..." He said, wiping a few tears from the laughter. He felt a hard jab in his gut. He rolled over in pain.

"You fool!" Dash said, punching him in the chest. She instantly tackled him to the ground.

The two engaged in some rough horseplay, only intending on good fun. They were laughing uncontrollably by the end of it.

"Your a hoot, Rainbow Dash." Soarin said, his cheeks red from all the laughing. Rainbow chuckled.

"Yeah yeah... I'm pretty awesome." Dash replied. Soarin smiled.

"Well, you should probably get going to the cabins. Spitfire would kill me if she found out I was out with a recruit after hours..." Soarin told her. Dash looked at the nearby clock that read midnight.

"Woah... It's pretty late. I should go. Night Soarin!" Rainbow said, as she started to make her way back to her cabins.

"Goodnight Dash. I'll see you tomorrow." He said, as he made his way to his own room.
