Spike Me I'm Dreaming

“So what you’re telling me,” Rainbow Dash then said bringing them all back to the present “is that Lock Light was the one who ‘inspired’ me to do a Sonic Rainboom?”

“To be quite frank yes,” the Doctor said “as I said, he’s been very influential in all of your lives. Without the Sonic Rainboom, none of you would have even come close to finding your cutie mark.”

“Wait a second,” Twilight said “what about me and Spike? He didn’t talk to us or do anything of that sort.”

“Oh really?” the Doctor said “Lock Light and I were fighting a dragon in the Everfree of Equestria. It had come too far north and was threatening to attack Equestria itself. We were fighting it and it scattered all of the animals in the local area. It even set fire to the forest. When Lock Light and I were done and had sent that dragon packing, we discovered why it had even come this far north in the first place.”

“Why was that?”

“It had laid one single egg,” the Doctor said “a very precious possession. It was a miracle that it hadn’t had been crushed in the ensuing battle. But there it was plain as day. We took it back to Canterlot and gave it to Princess Celestia, who made it the main stream for her test in the Canterlot School for Gifted Unicorns…or whatever she called it.”

“So they already had the egg?”

“Twilight,” the Doctor said “we’d never steal or do anything of the kind just to get a dragon’s egg. Though they are very rare, it is still a living creature and deserves the utmost care. Celestia wanted somepony like yourself to take care of the dragon who would become Spike.”

“But Spike was already,” Twilight began but she was cut off by Rainbow Dash.

“Wait a second,” she said “let’s go back to my story real quick. How come he was already the captain of the Wonderbolts?”

“Oh,” the Doctor said “he’d been captain for a very long time. He’d fade in and out of the Wonderbolts history. If you look back, you’ll see more than one Captain Lock Light, but they were all the same pony.”

“But how could that of worked?”

“Unlike most other ponies,” the Doctor went on “as you know Lock Light is immortal. He’d just wait until there was a new commissioner and do the try outs just like every other Pegasi. When he passed and if he was asked if he was related to THE Captain Lock Light, he’d simply grin and say yes. It was quite an easy deception. Most ponies can’t conceive the possibility of immortality you see.”

“How come he never gave them his real identity?”

“Would YOU have believed a pony which claimed immortality?” the Doctor retorted.

“Well,” Rainbow Dash said sheepishly “no, but it’s just…”

“I know it’s difficult to understand,” Twilight said “but it DOES make sense. Didn’t you say that he formed the first Wonderbolt Squadron?”

“Yes,” the Doctor said “to protect Equestrian air space and to defend against all threats from above or below. That was his motto.”

“And why hasn’t Celestia ever told anyone before about his presence?” Twilight asked “surely, she’d tell me.”

“The problem,” the Doctor said “is that it is too deep of a secret. You already know about how Alicorns are made and why they are created. And YOU understand that, but most ponies don’t. Their only concept of an Alicorn is the Diarchy and that’s already complex in itself, NOT only that, but if you knew his DEEPER story, then you would understand even more.”

“So,” Pinkie Pie asked “what is it?”

“I can’t tell you,” the Doctor said “it’s not my place or position to tell you. To tell you without hearing it from his own lips would be betraying our trust. I’ll tell you that everything will become clear ONCE you know, but I simply can’t tell you.”

“Alright then,” Rarity said “what about me? How could Lock Light have POSSIBLY influenced MY life? I WOULD like to know that certainly.”

“Well,” the Doctor said “that one’s a bit easier to explain.”

“How do you mean?”

“Do you remember the time when your horn glowed,” the Doctor asked Rarity “and you had felt that it was your ‘destiny’?”

“Yes,” Rarity said “I remember it as clear as day.”

“That wasn’t because of your destiny,” the Doctor said looking awkward.

“I still don’t understand,” Rarity exclaimed “it WAS my destiny to find those gems.”

“I know,” the Doctor said “but the circumstances under which you FOUND those gems AND that your horn glowed, were not unprecedented.”

“Not following dear,” Rarity said.

“I created the environment which created the power which mean your horn glow,” the Doctor said “and drag you to the place where you found the boulder.”

“Why?” Rarity asked.

“I’ll tell you…”
