Rule No.1: Keep your friends close, but your siblings closer
Rainbow Dash quickly shoved on her shoes and raced outside, feeling the morning breeze rush onto her. She grinned and strolled down the path, ready for another exciting day.
As she headed towards the field, she almost passed by her two friends, just exciting the house. She turned to face them and waved.
"Hey Pinkie, hey Applejack! Ready for a good time? I have something amazing to show you!" Rainbow proclaimed.
"Aw shucks, of course we'd like to come!" Applejack replied, tipping her hat. She walked up to Rainbow.
"Yeah! Why would we ever miss out on a time to hang with our best friends?" Pinkie cheered, following after them as they continued on their way.
"...Okay...and open!" Rainbow called. Applejack and Pinkie removed their hands and looked around at the sight. Standing on a high up rock, they could see the beautiful flowers and trees, the mountains in the distance, and the sparkling, clear water below them.
"Woah. This is amazing!" Applejack commented, staring out with wide eyes.
"I know right? I actually discovered it yesterday, during the rainfall. And it has the most beautiful rainbow." Rainbow Dash said, smiling. "Uh, just don't tell dad. He hates it when I go outside in bad weather, but I just couldn't wait!"
"This is the most superfiric thing ever!" Pinkie yelled out, hearing the echo in the distance.
"You do realise that's not a real word, right?" Applejack asked. Pinkie shrugged.
"Who cares!" Rainbow interjected. "There's one more thing I have to show you!" She walked up to the edge, grabbing Pinkie and Applejack's hand. "Hope you can swim!" She called, before jumping off, dragging the two with her.
Rainbow Dash hurried down the stairs, sat down at the kitchen table and grabbed a piece of toast. "So, where are we heading out today, Dad?" She asked, before biting down.
Rainbow Blitz placed down his cutlery. "I'm afraid this isn't going to be like our usual trips, Rainbow." He said, clearing his throat. "The Queen of Canterlot ordered a new pair of shoes Thursday evening, and today, we have to take time off to bring them to her. Since this is a castle we're visiting, I'll need you to dress in something nice."
"Eh?" Dash looked up, a disgusted look on her face. "You mean, like, dresses and all that...girly stuff?"
Rainbow Blitz stood up and ruffled her hair, before taking the plates to the sink. "It's only for a short time, I'm sure you can handle it. Now, go on, get ready, we have to leave in 10 minutes."
Dash folded her arms and grumbled, heading up the stairs.
Rainbow Dash pulled at the collar of her dress, as she followed her father up the stairs, towards the castle. "Urgh, this is so not comfortable!" She complained. "I hate this poofy dress, and I can barely walk in these heels!" She slipped lightly on the stair, before regaining her balance.
"Come on now," Rainbow Blitz started as he grabbed the door handle, "we're heading in. Just don't complain, and it'll be over before you know it."
"It better be," Dash mumbled, heading through the doors. She grinned awkwardly and followed her dad through the halls, looking around. Well, she didn't have to be girly to say that this place looked pretty sweet! She wouldn't have a problem living here, if she didn't have to wear this kind of stuff all the time.
"Your majesty," her dad said, bowing down. Rainbow Dash snapped out of her thoughts and quickly curtseyed, but tripped over her feet and fell onto the ground. She scurried up again, and resorted to a bow like her father.
"Come now, there's no need for that," the Queen said politely.
"Right, of course, the shoes!" Rainbow Blitz pulled the box carefully out of his bag. "It's right here, your majesty." He opened the box and very carefully pulled one out, kneeling down to her level. He very carefully replaced her current shoe with the one he held. It was a perfect fit.
Rainbow Blitz looked up with a smile. "What do you think, your majesty?"
"I think they're just wonderful. And please, sir, call me Celestia." She said, returning the smile.
Rainbow Dash rocked back and forth on her heels as she waited outside. Why? She had no idea. Apparently they had something to plan, and she was told to leave. Oh well, whatever. She sighed and sat down on the stair, pulling off those annoying heels.
The door opened, and Dash quickly pulled them back on, standing up. "Well, can we go now?" She asked impatiently.
"Rainbow," her Dad said quickly, "we have an announcement to make. After recent events, Celestia and I have decided to get married!"
In that one moment, Rainbow Dash felt her life crumble away.
Rainbow propped her elbow up on the carriage and pouted. "This is the worst day of my life..." She mumbled, looking towards her "mom", before looking back with a groan. Why? Just...why? Out of all the people the Queen could've fallen in love with, it just had to be her dad! The chance of that happening was, like, 1 in a million! Come on!!! She gripped the ends of her hair, but resorted from screaming out in frustration. She had plenty of time to do that in the castle, which was SO big, she probably wouldn't even be able to find her bedroom at night!
Aside from that, she was getting a new family. Yeah. Two prissy siblings to actually live with. For that, she was grateful the castle was big. Maybe it meant she wouldn't run into them too often. But then there were meals and outings and....and school! Like, actual Princess school to learn to be those high class preps! Ugh, it was such a nightmare!
"Alright, Rainbow, we're here." Her Dad said, opening the carriage door. Rainbow Dash sighed and stepped out. Well, it wasn't like there was much she could do about it, anyway...
Rainbow Dash headed through the doors, once again behind her father, and now, new mother, to be greeted by everyone who stayed in the castle, from servants to cooks to who seemed to be her new siblings. Yep, they were just as she imagined. Both with green, pink and blue hair, just like their mother. Well, maybe it was tradition for royal family members to have multicoloured hair. At least she wouldn't be the odd one out then.
Her two siblings nodded politely, and the Prince of the two stepped forward.
"Good evening, Princess Rainbow. My name is Prince (???), and this here is my sister, Princess Amber Song." He announced, holding out his hand. Awkwardly, Rainbow reached out to shake it, but received a kiss on the hand instead. Apparently, that was normal for royal siblings...she'd have to keep that in mind.
"Pleasure," Amber said, with a lack of any emotion. Well, not like Rainbow cared.
"Well then," Princess Celestia said, placing her hands together softly. "now that we have all got acquainted, I think it's almost time for dinner. Rainbow dear, before we start, I've asked our Butler to show to your room so you can get changed into what you may desire for the evening."
Rainbow Dash lit up. Well, that was music to her ears.
As on cue, the Butler stepped forward and bowed. "Follow me, Princess Rainbow Dash."
Rainbow cringed and followed. The full name lacked a certain ring to it. She kept her eyes on everything around her as she walked down the hall, hoping to remember this for next time. Yeah, if it was possible.
Rainbow Dash peered into the gigantic wardrobe the moment the butler left her bedroom. Gees, it was like a whole other room in there! She walked in, frowning slightly at the rows and rows of dresses, pumps, nightgowns and tiara's. Honestly, it was making her sick. Not to mention the pile of make-up situated in one corner of the room. Please, for gods sake, have some boots or pants or something non-girly! She continued to march through, but found nothing. Groaning, she leaned against one of the walls in the whole new closet.
Rainbow Dash jumped back as the wall began to open infront of her. She grinned at the sight.
"Yes! Finally, something decent to wear!" She said, walking inside.
Prince (????) was the first to notice Rainbow Dash as she walked into the room, dressed in long pants, and a sleeved jacket over a shirt. He blinked and stared, causing everyone else to look at her as well. Rainbow looked at their expressions — her Dad held a look of disappointment, while it seemed the Queen didn't mind. Prince (???) was slightly confused, as if he wondered if that was okay, and Princess Amber...she looked about ready to snatch Rainbow up and carry her off to get changed. Like, she looked absolutely mortified.
Rainbow shrugged and sat down at the table. Everyone else went back to eating, but she could tell her dad still wasn't pleased. Eh, whatever, she'd worry about that later. For now, she had to work out why the hell anyone would need five forks and five knives. Okay, some of them we're different, but still.
Rainbow Dash picked up the middle of the five on either side — symmetry and all that — and started to eat. Well, at least the food was nice.
Now she was curious on what the showers were like.
Rainbow Dash flopped back onto her enormous bed, sinking down into the pillow. She pushed herself up and sighed.
"This is hopeless. I'll never learn how to be a princess! I mean,
