Chapter 2: The Desert Night-Mare

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

“Incoming at the door!” I yelled, and soon the doors gave way for a few of them… The guards took them on, while the first one was still keeping me on the ground…*Crack* My spear broke, and the Antlion kept lashing at me with its spiky legs and mandibles… When it tried to bite my head off I dodged, and with the spear’s head stabbed it repeatedly, killing it. We managed to fight them back, tho I only killed one of those things… When they seemed to stop coming and heard no more buzzing, we returned to the town hall, most of us on to of our guard, and waited for Tamir and the rest to return, tho after 10 minutes Kalin wa visibly worried. “Give me your sword, I’ll go see where they are…”

She did as I asked with slightly relieved tone. “Be careful, should they be gone, don’t join them…” I nodded and walked off to the West. All I saw was the guards dead, half buried in the sand, and Tamir still fending off 5 of them, with least success… One of them knocked him over and took him to the ground breaking his spear. I ran up, and with a running jump kicked it off of him with both feet, sending it flying a few meters.

“Thanks.” He exclaimed, I helped him back up, and gave him the sword I had. “What about you?”

I taped my chest, reminding him of my armor. “Duh… Duck!” One of them jumped at us, and the suit seemed to take control, as I grabbed it mid air and punched through its torso… And like in a Jackie Chan movie, I beat the shit out of them while Tamir cut the others down… “Were those the last?” I wondered.

“I hope so.” He replied.

“Let’s go back to the others…” I exclaimed, and we did just that… Kalin was relieved to see her husband once more, while the citizens returned to their homes, after giving their dead a proper burial… To which I was asked to attend, tho I don’t know why… Where their bodies were buried into coffins carved out of stone, after which we honored them with a minute of silence. When it was over, the priestess thanked our presence on their behalf, and prayed to Zilene, their God of Mercy to grant them peaceful rest from there on, then let us go.

“Thanks again, if it wasn’t for you, I might be among them now…” Tamir exclaimed.

“I wish I could’ve done more…”

“You did your best… Uhm, where’s Aldir?” He replied.

“I don’t know, I’ll go find him…”  I replied and took a few steps, when the priestess stopped me.

“Wait…” She exclaimed.

“Yes?”

She began chanting, when she stopped, she produced  black sword from her robes, and gave it to me. “Blessing of Etarr, don’t lose it…” I took said blade and held it by my side.

“Long live Etarr…” I replied, while my body grew a small bit of metal to my left, which could hold the sword by the crossbar. She nodded in response and walked off, so did I, inspecting the sword… Tungsten Carbide… Cuts through steel, titanium, and metal like a hot knife through butter, conducts electricity, but not the toughest material… Then again, it’s from Etarr… I thought to myself, and checked all over the town twice, but found no trace of him, so I returned to the town hall.

“Hello Ryan, have you found anything?” Tamir wondered.

“Nothing…”

“Ah, and what will you do now?”

“I’ll see if the Equestrian sisters can help me or not.”

“When will you leave?”

“When is the next sandstorm?”

“I don’t know, but the Prince will visit tomorrow to see what to do next…” He replied.

“Perhaps he can help you get there faster and safer…” Kalin added.

“Well, I assume I can wait a day…” I replied.

“We have room you can stay in, this way.” Kalin replied, and showed me the way. “Good night, Ryan.”

“You too.”  And so, I went to sleep… I’m still not sure if it was a simulation or a dream, since I was already 50% machine because of the modifications the suit made… I was in a blank void, alone, everything black… I spent hours in that enviroment, nearly going insane, when suddenly I heard someone call out.

“So… You’re the one who dares desire enter my domain…”

“Who was that?” I asked loud.

“One you should not anger... “

“What do you want?” I asked, when suddenly an Alicorn appeared in front of me… Of course I didn’t know what they were called at the time…

“You, to stay away from my kingdom!” She yelled back.

“Look, all I want is to go home… I was told you co-”

“Stay away if you value your life!”

“Or else?” I asked… Now I regret doing so…

“Or else?” *Chuckle* She looked at my feet, I looked at them too, when I looked back, I had my answer.

“I’LL TEAR YOUR FACE OFF!” She yelled, and jumped at me… Just when her teeth were about to get me, I bolted out of bed, covered in sweat…

“FUCK!” I yelled, fortunately I didn’t wake anybody. Probably just a nightmare… Let’s try again… I thought to myself, then went back to sleep, soon finding myself in the same void, but nobody in sight. Oh shit, I wonder if I can wake up any time I want… This doesn’t look good

“FOUND YOU!” She yelled, and I woke up again, not willing to sleep again...I was about to seek out the priestess for help, when another window popped up.

I put my hand onto my heart, it was like a gatling gun being fired… Luckily I still had the box of cigarettes and lighter in my lab coat… Just to clear things up, my suit folds up into an article of clothing of my choice while not in use, when I’m in danger for example, it grows and covers my entire body, so yes, I had a lab coat still…  While I was out for a smoke, the suit warned me of the low temperatures outside.

No surprise, we’re in a desert… Later on I noticed something moving in the distance, and turned the night vision function on, and zoomed in. Ok, now I feel like the Terminator AND Gordon Freeman… Weird! It seemed to b crawling. Aldir? I got my sword ready and decided to investigate, it was who I thought it is.

“Aldir? Fuck, you look terrible...” I greeted him.

“You’re no better..” He replied.

“What?” I asked, then got jumped again, and woke up… Once again. “Stop it already! Christ…”

“Why would I? I’m just starting to enjoy it…” A well known voice replied, and I woke up once again, back at home.

Yeah right, my wife is sleeping next to me, facing away… I wonder what would happen when I try to talk to her… Nope, I know what will happen. *Sigh* “Morning ho-” Just as I expected, this was the longest streak of nightmares I ever had…

“Have you had enough?” Her voice asked.

“I’m going to find you, tear your horn off, and shove it up your ass so hard you’ll cast spells with your mouth…”

“I’m looking forward to it…” She replied.

*Chuckle*

“What so amusing?!” She wondered.

“You know the difference between the two of us?”

“What is it?”

“In my dreams, all you can do is scare me… While I, in the real world, can turn your life into a living nightmare…”

“I doubt you could hurt anypony with my guards spears running you through…”

“I doubt they could run me through…” I replied. “Just watch…”

“Ha, you would never…”

“Back in my home, I wouldn’t.”

“Told you you wouldn’t.”

“But I’m not home now, am I?” I asked. “Let’s play a game… After I get into your precious kingdom, the first nightmare you give me, I’ll kill one of your citizens… The second nightmare? Add two more to the graveyard, do we understand each other?”

“You’re a horrible creature…”

“Am I? All I wanted to do is ask you to help me back home, yet you’re the one who refused to listen to begin with, and threatened me right away… Just the thought of you being an example for your citizen makes me wanna puke...” I replied, after which, she began to cry and disappeared. *Sigh* Man I went too far on her… I’ll regret it in the near future, won’t I?

Figures, I went over the line with her… Well, don’t expect any apologies…

“Ryan? Ryan! Wake up!” Kalin yelled, finally waking me from the nightmares.

*Yawn* “Hello Kalin, good morning…” I greeted her.

“Wake up, sleepy head… Breakfast is ready…” She replied with a smile, a smile I was not expecting… Even while living in a small town in the desert, and almost losing her husband the other day, she was still able to smile… Then again, I saved her husband…

“Thanks, I’ll be there in a minute.” I replied.

“We’re waiting on you…” She replied and left. How come Saddle Arabians are so kind, yet the Equestrians straight up assbags? I quickly collected my thought, and joined the two of them… “Okay, I’m here…”I exclaimed, and we got at it… When we were done, we left the building and the Prince arrived, in the company of a smaller army… Walked up to the three of us, greeted us with a bow, which we returned.

“You must be Ryan, right?” He asked.

“Yes, your highn-”

“Please, call me Umar…” He replied.

“Yes, Umar…”

“I’ve heard of your actions, and the priestess told me a thing or two as well…” He exclaimed.

“Oh?”

“It might not mean as much to you, but I must thank you for defending my people, even tho you’re from a different species, and a different world all together… I have also received word, that you wish to go to Equestria… I wasn’t planning on going there, but after what happened last night, I’ll have a few words with Luna… How dare she torment anyone outside of her kingdom?!”

“How do you know of all this? You just arrived.” I wondered.

“The dunes have eyes, the storms have ears…” He replied, I didn’t quite understand, but went on. “Tamir, Kalin, I’ll leave half these troops here, the rest will go back to the capital, while Ryan and I go to Equestria.” They nodded with a grin in response. “Well then, shall we go now, Ryan?”

“Right away?” I wondered.

“Of course.” He replied.

I walked up to Tamir and Kalin before leaving. “Thank you for your hospitality… Should the sisters not be able to help me, I’ll return from time to time…”

“If so, I hope we never meet again.” Tamir replied… I understood what he meant… Kalin smiled again, and we left.

Meanwhile in the Everfree Forest…

Ugh… Wh-Where am I? What happened? I tried to open my eyes, and found myself in a small hut, a cooking pot in the center. Yeah… Where am I?

“Ah, now you’re awake… I had feared I was too late…” Said a voice…

“Who…”

“Fear not, for I am the one who saved you… At least, I’m pleased to meet you.” She replied.

“Where…”

“You are in safety, so do not worry… There’s no reason for you to hurry.”

“Who are you?” I wondered. Soon I met my savior, a zebra named Zecora… At first I was sure I just hit my head, but it wasn’t the case… She explained to me how she found me in the forest while gathering plants, and took me in so the timberwolves won’t get me… “Sorry uh, give me a minute…” She nodded in response.

I asked through the communicator.

The fuck was that about? “Damn, it doesn’t work… Oh well, I forgot to introduce myself… I’m Cinthya.”

“Forgive my manners, but I’ve seen nothing like you… Could you tell me what happened to you?”

“A failed experiment back home… It sent me here…”

“Ah, it is sad to hear, but there’s nothing to fear, for you are safe in here…”

“Thanks for your help.” I replied. She showed me where she put my things, I got me back, put em away, thanked her again, and left. Soon after she came out too, and told me she’s going to get a few things from a nearby town called Ponyville, I offered to go with her.
