Derpy Hooves, woke up early one morning. She made a quiet flying to the living room; where her mailbag was waiting for her, after she had put on her uniform. She had a little frown on her face, because she was expecting on very long, hard talk from her boss for the serious amounts of damage she had caused for the past two months this year. For Derpy, despite how hard she tries, her clumsiness, and her lack of perfect vision, had caused her to be teased, and yelled at by everypony around her.
Derpy made a small little note to her daughters, Sparkler, and Dinky, and closed the door behind her very quietly so that her daughters won't wake up. Derpy made her way to the Ponyville Post Office, where a very long series of envelopes and packages were stretched as far as the eye can see. Derpy, had a lump forming in her throat, as she made her way over to the office of the manger of the post office.
She walked and was just about to knock on the door, when one of her fore hooves accidentally knocked off one the neatly stacked packages beside her. Hearing the crash, the other mail ponies glared at Derpy. "Oops, my bad", Derpy said, smiling nervously, as the door to the manger's office opened. Derpy turned around; making a soft little gasp as she saw the manger's look of pure anger on his face.
Derpy swallowed the newly formed lump in her throat, and gave the manger a strained smile. The manger, however, didn't smile back at her. Derpy gave a small sigh of despair as she walked into the manger's office. After the manger closed the door behind him, Derpy took a seat across from his desk. The manger took his seat and cleared his throat, giving Derpy a concerned look.
"Now, Derpy", said the manger. "What I've noticed is that for the past two months, you've caused many damages across Ponyville. But, I also noticed something else. You always try to make things up to everypony by performing community service, with the help from your friends."
"Of course I do try, but I ended up making things even worse", Derpy said, tears filling up in her eyes.
"Derpy, this can't go on anymore. We just felt like maybe you should take some time off until further notice", the manger said, his expression of seriousness never fully going away.
"Yes sir", said Derpy, with a look of understanding on her face; tears streaming down her face. With a sad heart in her chest, Derpy, closed the door behind her. She didn't know what she would do at the moment right now. She couldn't go home, her daughters would never understand. She can't go to a friend's house, she would break something.
Finally though, Derpy felt that it would be best if she went for a quiet walk in the Everfree Forest. Nopony would ever find her there so they can tease her. The animals there wouldn't judge her. There wouldn't be anypony that would make her anything she felt as totally worthless. She felt that it would be for the best.
Derpy walked out of Ponyville Town Square, passed Carousel Boutique, out of the edge of Sweet Apple Acres, and eventually, to the point of her destination. The Everfree Forest looked like a nice quiet place to be for as long as Derpy's heart desired.
Derpy walked into the forest, it was, nice and calm.
Derpy had made her way to the meadow of the forest, when she had heard somepony crying. She searched and searched to see where the crying was coming from. She eventually found a unicorn mare, with a yellow coat, a yellow mane and tail, blue eyes, and a rainbow's arc, the sun, and a song bird as a cutie mark.
Derpy, took such great empathy on her, that she had decided to walk up to the unicorn and decide to try to calm her down. The unicorn, felt Derpy's comforting wing on her back. She turned to see Derpy, smiling a genuine smile at her. The unicorn sniffled and said, "Hi. Don't pay any attention to me. I'm just wallowing in my self loathing."
"Why?" asked Derpy, with a look of both surprise and worry on her face.
"Everypony makes fun of me for being different from everypony else", the unicorn said, as tears weld up in her eyes once again.
"I know what that's like", said Derpy.
"You do?" asked the unicorn, with her expression softening up a bit, but the sadness never truly going away.
"Yup. I know exactly what you're going through cause I'm always in that exact same spot as yourself", Derpy smiled at the unicorn.
The unicorn was surprised that there was somepony who goes through the same amount of bullies that she goes through, but maybe not the exact same but she still gets very upset nonetheless. Derpy noticed, that she got the unicorn's complete and undivided attention. So she continued.
"You see these eyes?" asked Derpy, pointing to her wall-eyes with both fore hooves. The unicorn nodded, notifying the Pegasus that she does. "You see, I have a rare condition called stribismis, which means that my eyes are not probably inline with each other. I was born with it and the doctors couldn't do anything to cure it. And because of my eyes, I'm also a little clumsy. I really don't mean to cause any accidents, but I end up making everypony laugh at me. They even call me names. And when I try to make things better, I end up making things even worse. But I never let anything as a leave of absence from the post office to let me walk in the forest to clear my mind on all of the things that happen to me. And that's why I'm here. I noticed you walked out here to be alone too."
The yellow unicorn gave a small nod to Derpy. "You seem like the type of Pegasus that takes such great pity on a unicorn, or even, anypony who's very sad and alone", the unicorn said sighing. "You see, I have a mental condition called scizzoefective disorder. Which is just an autistic like condition. It means that I prefer to live in my own little world then in this one. I was born with it, and like yours, there's no cure for mine. I always get teased for my beliefs in everything. Such as wishes coming true and believing in fairy tale magic. The bullies always call me names and told me that I don't belong here. That's why I came here. To hide from everypony."
"Now there", said Derpy, stroking the unicorn's back with her wing. "You shouldn't let those ponies tell you how to act. From what I can see, you are a very special pony. I can see that there's so much wonderful things that you see because you can see that the world around you would be perfect like your own little world. And even though you're a shy pony by nature, you make great strides to better yourself."
The unicorn smiled and asked Derpy, "You really think so?"
"I know so" Derpy said, smiling back at the unicorn. For a little while, silence was between the ponies who were so much like each other, despite the fact that they were two different species of ponies. But no matter their differences, they have more a lot in common then they'd realize.
Finally though, the unicorn spoke, "I don't believe I know your name."
"Oh, sorry. I'm Derpy Hooves", Derpy said. "What's your name?"
"I'm Sunshine Rainbows", said Sunshine. Derpy and Sunshine, walked out of the forest, and into Ponyville. Derpy and Sunshine may not have known it, but they felt as though, they knew each other through their whole lives, even though that they just became friends.
Both of them know that there's nothing truly better then a friend who goes through the exact same pain that you go through, and share your feelings you make towards others.
Derpy walked to Sunshine's house, gave her a hug, and said, "I hope we'll see each other again Sunshine."
"Me too, Derpy", said Sunshine, smiling back at Derpy and gave her a hug too. Things have been going much better for Derpy over the next few weeks. She had been reinstated by her manger at the post office, she hadn't caused any accidents lately, and best of all, she heard from Sunshine, that she too, had been getting much better. Derpy thought to herself, as she got ready for her job, Maybe things will be better for me now that I have a new friend who is so much like me. She's more then a friend She's my best friend.
