Discord snorted to himself. He honestly never imagined that he would indulge in such a tedious task as buying a cake. He was the lord of Chaos for Celestia's sake, but Fluttershy mentioned how she would "love a cake on a nice day like this" and that going on an errand with a FRIEND, meaning him, would be wonderful. He had almost gotten his way, but then she made the 'sad pony' face. Now he walked to Sugarcube Corner with Fluttershy humming beside him.
"I could have baked you a cake myself and saved you a few bits. Why are we walking there when I could have teleported us there in a snap? LITERALLY with a snap of my fingers! Hey Fluttershy, are you even listening to me anymore?" Discord grumbled for the tenth time.
Fluttershy giggled, "Yeah I'm listening. You know how much I love hearing you complain for hours on end, but shouldn't this be fun though? Just walking around and getting to see what everypony is up to? Plus on a good day like this the sunshine feels great don't you think?" Fluttershy spread her wings as a gentle breeze went by. She gave Discord a sideways glance.
Discord rolled his eyes "The sun is always great and wonderful for everypony, so is the moon but everypony isn't out and about then. You're my best friend Fluttershy and I appreciate your existence, but this is so dull. It would be more fun if it was at least raining chocolate milk." Discord raised his hand to summon the clouds, but quickly lowered it when he saw Fluttershy's glare. "Fine, but I'm teleporting us back when you have the cake."
Fluttershy sighed in defeat "Okay we're almost there anyway Mr. Grumpy feathers." Fluttershy flicked her wing into his arm, that caused Discord to chuckle.
Pinkie Pie greeted her old and new friend excitedly from behind the counter. "Fluttershy! Discord! I have some amazing, fantastic, unbelievable news! Sugarcube Corner is having a sale on cakes today! It's a buy one get one free, isn't that awesome?!"
Fluttershy noded, her hair gently shifted with her head. "It most certainly does Pinkie. I'll take a-" Discord placed his lion paw on Fluttershy's head, she paused and looked quizically at her friend.
"We're here to pick up my order, it is under the name Discord. If you would be so kind to fetch it please?" Pinkie smiled brighter and headed to the back room
"You placed an order? When?" Before Discord could answer, Pinkie burst back out with a carrot cake it had yellow frosting. 'Thank you' was written in pink, elegant writing with pink butterflies around it.
Discord smiled seeing how suprised Fluttershy looked. "A few days ago. I just wanted to say thank you for, well, giving me a chance, being my friend, forgiving me, and basically thank you for being alive." Discord looked away from his friend, his cheeks pink with embarrassment. He handed the bits to Pinkie, glad for the distraction.
Fluttershy couldn't believe her ears or eyes. Discord was one of her bestfriends, but she never expected him to care so much about her. "D-Discord I don't know how to- this is so k-kind of you." Fluttershy turned to Discord. A huge smile was spread across her face as happy tears trailed down her blush pink cheeks. She used her wings to lift herself high enough to wrap her hooves around her friend's neck. "Thank you for this, for being my friend, and for being alive too Discord."
Discord hugged Fluttershy careful not to squish her too hard. Pinkie cried quietly at the touching scene "You-you know you guys get one more cake right? Take your time to decide." Pinkie gave a shakey giggle as she tried to stop her own tears.
It took a while before either of them could calm down. "You pick the cake this time since I chose before." Discord pointed to the baked cakes on display.
Fluttershy examined the cakes carefully. "Pinkie we'll take the choclate as well." Pinkie quickly went to box the cakes, and watched them disappear with the snap of a finger. Discord and Fluttershy were immediately back at the cottage with the cakes. The two friends shared the carrot cake with some tea, and spent the rest of the day with chats and laughter.
As it grew dark Discord stood to leave when Fluttershy spoke, "You should take the chocolate cake with you." Before he could ask why, she smirked, "I heard Celestia enjoys chocolate cake best. I figured you could share the cake with her." Fluttershy winked as Discord blushed. She was very aware of her friend's long term crush on Princess Celestia. With a friendly hug farewell, Discord took the chocolate cake and teleported away. Fluttershy knew Discord was on his way to see Celestia. She giggled with a good feeling in her heart. "Go get her Discord."

A few weeks later
Fluttershy was waiting for Discord for their weekly tea parties. He was running a bit late and it was worrying until her door was pushed wide open by none other than said friend. "Discord you startled me. Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Oh it's only the most wonderful thing in the world to ever happen to me. Well besides being friends with you that is. I'm just so happy I could-" Discord exploded into confetti then reappeared seconds later.
Fluttershy laughed at her friend's ecstatic behavior. "Would you tell me what all of this is about already?" Fluttershy was taken by suprise when Discord scooped her up in a hug and spun them in circles. He placed her back in her seat as he recalled the events that took place mere minutes before.
"She said yes. I asked Celestia out and she said yes! Oh this is wonderful, but let me start from the beginning. I was on my way here when I walked by the castle and I saw her there. She was beautiful as usual, but then she spotted me. I was just going to vanish at first, then she flew over to me with those wonderful wings of hers. We talked for a while. She mentioned her annual galla, and I offered to be her date. It was supposed to be a joke, but she said yes. I came here as quick as possible to tell you." Discord had to catch his breath after his recap.
Fluttershy was happy for him, and she couldn't help but feel a bit smug. The cake had totally broken the ice between Discord and Celestia.
