Chapter 1: Nightmare Night Has Come!

The light danced on Nightbell's lilac face as tiny light beam shone in through her navy-blue, diamond-patterned curtains. "Wake up sleepyhead! It's a glorious morning today!" Nightbell's Mom shouted from the other side of the door. "Uhhh..." Nightbell's eyes were still shut, as Nightbell tried to open them. Nightbell's Mom opened the door slowly. "Nightbell! Wake up. Did you superglue your eyes again?" Nightbell's Mom said teasingly. Nightbell's Mom - Violet Star - was different from other ponies, she is a bat pony. Unlike her Mother, Nightbell is a pegasus pony - like her father (who's a unicorn), but a filly. Violet opened the curtains and then ducked under. She wasn't allowed to be seen by anypony on the streets. The light shone on Nightbell's face, no longer dancing. "Ahhh! I'm blind!" Nightbell said jokingly. "Your not blind! Because I have strawberries!" "STRAWBERRIES?!?! WHERE!?!?" Nightbell said, opening her crystal-blue eyes and flying out of bed. "Hey! There aren't any strawberries!" Nightbell said angrily. Violet giggled. "Sweetie, there are some downstairs!" "Really?! Let's go!" Nightbell said excitedly.

Both of them flew down, Nightbell at a much slower pace then Violet. As Violet raced ahead, she remembered Nightbell wasn't as fast as her. Violet stopped above the stairs to wait for Nightbell. "You can do it, sweetie." Violet said enthusiastically. Nightbell's father - Maple Leaf - came halfway up the stairs to watch. "You can do it!" He said. Nightbell was an 'only child' at the moment, but she was happy with that. As they saw Nightbell struggle around the corner they began cheering. "H-help?" Nightbell said. "You need a bit more practice until you'll be as good as your Mother." Maple said as he levitated her towards him with his pale-blue magic. Slowly and carefully he dropped her. They all walked downstairs towards the dining table with was in the kitchen.

They all sat down and ate their cereals with strawberries. Suddenly the doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" Nightbell exclaimed. Nightbell stopped eating and ran to the door. She opened it slowly. "Good morning Nightbell!" Derpy said politely. "Hi Derpy! Got any mail today?" "Yep! I've got 5 letters, 2 parcels. P.S!!! One of them is for you!!!" Derpy said derpily. Derpy handed them over to Nightbell and flew over to her mail van. "Thanks Derpy! Bye! See you tomorrow!" "No, no no! See you TONIGHT! Happy Nightmare Night Nightbell!" Derpy said. They both waved. Nightbell went back inside. "OMIGOSH! I forgot it was Nightmare Night!" Nightbell said excitedly.

Mom! You've got 2 letters. Dad you've got a parcel and two letters. Oo! I've got a parcel and a letter! "Bills, Bills." Violet said. "Bills...YESSSS WHOOOPEEEEE!!!" Maple said excitedly. "What Dad?" "IVE GOT A PROMOTION!!!!!!!!!!!" "Yayyyy!!!!!!" Nightbell said, happy for her father. "That's wonderful news!" Violet said. Nightbell and her father opened their parcels at the same time. "Ah! My zombie costume's arrived!" Maple said proudly. "Yay! My ghost costume's arrived!" Nightbell said happily. "Wait, Mom where's your costume?" "I'm going outside tonight. I AM my costume. I will be helping my sister make a maze. You and your friends can go through it if you like?" Violet asked. "Yay! That sounds fun! As long as it doesn't take until midnight. I'm going on an adventure at midnight! At 6-7pm me and my friends are going 'trick or treating', at 7-8 me and my friends are going to the party in the town centre plus going on a tour with Zecora, at 8-10 we're doing the maze and then I'm going on an adventure!" Nightbell said proudly, rummaging through the kitchen cupboards for her trick or treat bag. "On an adventure with your friends?" Violet asked. "No Mom! By myself, to the Everfree forest." Violet and Maple looked at each other nervously. Then Violet winked at Maple. She had an idea. "Are you looking for your trick or treat bag sweetie?" Maple said (still reading his newspaper) while holding it with his magic. "Oh! Thanks dad!" Nightbell said as the jumped up to get it. "I'm going to prepare my stuff, okay?" Nightbell said.

After a long day of preparing, Nightbell came downstairs in her ghost costume and holding her trick or treat basket on her back. Maple was already by the door in his zombie costume. "Nice costume sweetie. I'll walk you over to the town centre if you like? Lemme hold that for you." Maple said. With his magic he levitated the trick or treat basket. "Thanks Dad. But, where's Mom?" "Oh Mom? She's flew to your Aunts' house to get the maze ready. There are a few school fillies going there before you and your friends." Maple answered. "Oh ok. My friends told me to meet them in front of the stage. We better get there quick." Nightbell said. "Super-quick or right now-quick?" Maple asked. Nightbell giggled. "Right now-quick!" Nightbell said. Maple's horn glowed pale-blue and he teleported them in front of the stage. "Bye sweetie! I'll be in the pub if you need me, or I'll be doing the festivities." Maple said. "Okay, bye dad." Maple teleported away.

As Nightbell searched for her friends she saw Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. "Hi Nightbell! That outfit looks so beautiful on you!" Diamond Tiara said politely. "Hi Diamond Tiara, hi Silver Spoon. I LOVE both of your outfits! Happy Nightmare Night!" "Hi Nightbell! Thank you so much!" Silver Spoon said. "Happy Nightmare Night!" They both said as they walked off, chatting. Nightbell looked everywhere, all she could see was ponies' legs and fillies running with their friends. Suddenly saw her friends - Moonshine and Sparkle Sea -. "Hi Nightbell!" They both said. "Ready to go trick or treating?" Sparkle asked. "Yeah!!!" Nightbell replied excitedly.
