On the Anatomy of an Alicorn Foal
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.
"All specimens were lost." Those were the words told to Magos Biologis C-52-Alpha. Emotionless and methodical, he assimilated the information and returned to his duties. But the thought never left him. Throughout the day, as hours passed, a part of his thought process was dedicated to careful calculations and analysis of the Xenos samples and specimens collected from Epona earlier that month. He cared little for the games played by the soldiers of the Imperial Guard or the overzealous efforts of the Adeptus Astartes, the Emperor's elite warriors and angels of death. All he knew was that precious specimens of a race of powerful psykers, of which merely three subjects were known, had been lost forever.
The specimens had been powerful. Three of the Adeptus Astartes had fallen to them before they could be slain, and had shown powerful abilities. If the creatures of Epona stank of the evil of the Warp, then those three must have been positively tainted by the archenemy; Chaos, to be as strong as they had been.
He knew he must have a clean specimen for his research. Planet Epona had been but one planet of Subsector Epona, and should they find any other creatures of similar strength, he knew it was in the Holy Emperor's best interests for his forces to be prepared to face them. Should the archenemy gain favor of the Xenos, and use their psychic abilities against the Imperium's efforts to colonize new worlds...
A thought broke through C-52-Alpha. A solution.
Without breaking away from his work, he redirected a portion of his thought processing to request seminal samples from specimens Equus Unicornis and whatever remained frozen from one of the more intact Equus Magnum's ovaries. From the darkness behind him, several servitors, brain-dead and ever loyal, moved to wordlessly carry out his command.
C-52-Alpha entered the Replicarium. The servitors calibrated and kept stable the conditions required for his procedure to work. Under his direct command, the Servitors were like his hands. C-52-Alpha issued a dozen different commands every few seconds with his mind alone. Half of his thoughts were devoted to the procedure at hand. Fifty percent of him was there in the Replicarium, while the rest coursed through a hundred other tasks, laboratories, sensors, and servitors he commanded or regulated. It was late and he had not slept for the past week, so he shut down some of the less relevant processes to rest.
In the darkness, the only sounds were those of the multiple cooling systems on his body and the sound of the machinery that he now operated. With perfect precision he maneuvered the seminal sample taken from specimen Equus Unicornis and injected its contents in the proximity of the unfertilized oocyte. The servitors monitored the conditions of the sample and its environment. The task completed for the time being, C-52-Alpha automated the servitors around him and shut down an approximate of forty-five percent of his processes and tasks. He occupied himself with menial matters.
