Chapter 1

There is little known about the outside world. The only things we know are mere assumptions. The ways of the new species are strange ones. We had no idea what was to happen once this connection was made; we had felt they would be a peaceful people. This future is a strange one indeed, but I fear that it's our problem as of now. So I have only one question… What do we do now?

There is something you should now about Equestria, as of now, it has had a, technological revolution if you will, and has, in effect, caused a massive influx of technological advancements to occur throughout the country. This has, unfortunately, caused a rift to emerge between the two princesses who govern the land, Luna and Celestia. Luna has embraced the new technology and feels it needs to be researched further; however, her sister feels that the older methods are the way that it should be and that, while the technology is nice, it won’t be of much use in the future. They seem to agree to disagree as Luna has taken it upon herself to see to the advancement of the new tech while Celestia watches over all else. My name is Cross Code… and this is my part in all of this.

The monitor flashed with the latest videos from some site known as “You Tube.” Strange site, I thought to myself. My headphones blasted a song which was being played through the video I was watching, have to admit though, the music they have is pretty damn good. My life, as far as I can remember, has been nothing but almost perpetual computer work. Not the kind that others were tirelessly slaving over trying to crack the secrets of the internet, but those that would crack the system. I found much joy in trying to code out that which kept him from doing what I wanted. This was my life, hell my cutie mark even stated so being a power symbol.  My usual day was spent buying whatever he needed from the Ponyville market, and saying hello to whomever I ran into along the way, hoping to run into Serenity, a beautiful violet mare with a dark-blue, almost black mane and tail with streaks of brighter teal running through each. It was such a contrast to my own dark green fur and red and blue mane and tail, and, I must admit, I blushed each time I’d had seen her. She never came out of her house that often though, and it often made me wonder just what she was doing in there. Anyway, that was all that I did before escaping back to my lonely home and continuing my search for web freedom. On this particular day however, as I walked to the market, a large cluster of clouds amassed in the sky, as though it were to rain hard enough to wash away the whole town. At that moment, a large tear ripped through the clouds and out of this tear came a dark chariot which seemed to be pulled by other ponies with dragon’s wings. A hooded figure sat in the rider’s portion of the chariot, simply staying still, much like a massive looming statue. As the chariot began to take a landing dive, I noticed the other ponies had cleared the streets and that I was now all alone, I must admit, this frightened me immensely. The chariot landed and its hooded rider stepped off with a lightning bolt and a loud pounding in the air. The hood was removed revealing its royal identity. I knelt before her as I saw her royal muzzle, Luna.

“Which one of Our subjects is the one called Cross Code,” she asked the town. No matter how often she tried to use the common dialect, she couldn’t get out of the habit of using “the royal We” when making her announcements.

“I am, your majesty,” I said still kneeling.

“Well then… I have come for you,” she said in her average tone.

“What? Why,” I asked confused. I have gotten in trouble with the authorities for my activities before, but I never thought they would resort to sending Luna to deal with me.

“I require your services.”

“Wait a second. You need my help. Me, An average unicorn?”

“I feel you can help me with a project I have been working on.”

“What kind of a project?”

“A computer related one, more over, one for us to communicate using the internet.” I must admit, I was skeptical at first, I mean we already had a way to communicate through the internet.

“You mean P-mail?”

“No, I mean communication with another race which has access to the internet, beyond even our own universe.”

“Really,” I asked her, this didn’t surprise me, since I was able to get onto this “You Tube” which was run by creatures known as humans, who already seemed to know we existed.

“Yes, I feel you would be a valuable asset to my team.”

“Yeah, I’m going to need more information than that princess,” I said snidely. While this may have been out of line, I don’t instantly take any job I’m given. “I just don’t take every job I’m given all willy-filly, I need to know the risks and payment.”

“Of course,” she said more calmly than expected, “There will be grand compensation for your duties and there will be no risks to worry about.”

“Alrighty then Princess, I shall work for you.”

“This is no average work though; this will be very difficult work and will require all of your knowledge to achieve.”

“I accept your majesty.”

“Fine then, from this day forth, you shall be known as my personal apprentice.”

This was a real shock, the only pony to have ever been an apprentice of the princesses was Ms. Twilight Sparkle. “Wait Princess, Apprentice? Really?”

“Yes, I need to keep in contact with you and you are the most gifted coder I have met in my time.”

“Well I am honored your majesty, but are you su-“

“You may accept or leave me,” she said flatly.

“Uh, then I accept your highness. Thank you.”

“Do not mention it, I would like you to take this scroll and report to me with your findings.”

The scroll didn’t even look like a scroll; it was just a scroll shaped hoof-drive. “Yes Princess Luna.”

“Now, off to work my apprentice.”

“Yes your majesty,” I replied. With that she trotted back to her chariot, and took off with the clearing of the sky. So this is how the story starts, I am now the apprentice of Princess Luna on some sort of adventure through code that only I can do. Little did I know what was awaiting me inside that drive.
