"... Or a thousand scary eyeballs starin' at you from the grave...?!" smiled Granny Smith with an evil grin, coming in closer to Fluttershy.
The yellow mare cowered down and her eyes widened in fright.
"Please tell me they're grapes!" she squeaked, trembling.
Granny Smith wore a creepy smile as she took a scary expression.
"Oh I'll never tell..."
Then she started to laugh like a witch, getting up on her hind hooves and waving her front ones in the air as an unexpected flash of lightning came out of nowhere, casting a shadow over the whimpering pegasus.
Fluttershy's mouth opened to let out a piercing scream as she ran away.
"Ah wonder what got stuck in her " muttered Granny Smith, frowning.
Big Macintosh just rolled his eyes.
Had his grandmother still not understood that Fluttershy was one of the most frightful ponies in Equestria...?!
Big Mac tried to ignore the perplexed look on the elder pony's face as he spoke to her :
"Listen Granny, ah'm gonna go see if she's fine. Can ya manage the last few hay bales without me?"
"Sure can Macintosh!" She gave her grandson a wink and proceeded to lifting the hay bales and putting them into the cart with the agility of a foal.
The stallion rushed to Fluttershy's side as she ran.
"Please slow down! It's only me!" yelled Big Macintosh, trying to give her a reassuring smile.
The yellow mare immediately stopped running and stared at the red stallion with a guilty expression.
"Oh dear I'm so sorry... It's just that... You scared me! And... Granny Smith!" Her words were getting tangled up in her mouth so he gently put a hoof on her shoulder.
"Don't ya worry! I know it's probably a scary night for ya. What ever are ya even doin' outside ya cottage...?"
"It's... I was just making... I mean... I was looking for food for Angel..." murmured the beautiful pegasus.
Big Mac frowned, disappointment taking over. "Oh... Yeah... So Angel is your like..."
Fluttershy felt giggly just looking at the big clumsy stallion that seemed to have trouble talking to her.
"He's your... lover?"
Fluttershy's envy to laugh died down. Her cheeks colored a bright red, almost matching Big Mac's fur.
"N... No! He's actually my... bunny."
Big Macintosh looked surprised and felt extremely embarrassed. "Yeah sure. Sorry 'bout askin' "
An awkward silence took place as Fluttershy didn't quite know what to do. She started to fiddle with her hair and looked away.
Big Mac on the other hoof was staring at her with big eyes.
Her mane! Celestiadamm it's the softest pink I've ever encountered! And... Her eyes... They're blue like them crystal flowers ya find in the North mountain'. So... innocent! I want 'em to look up at me one more time.
I wanna see your bubbly turquoise eyes plunge their sweet gaze into mine...
"Oh... Oh dear! Do I have something on my face?" suddenly exclaimed Fluttershy, attempting to wipe her nuzzle with her hoof, noticing the stallion was staring at her.
"Eeeenope. It's just that..."
A carriage of laughing fillies and colts went by.
"Let's get to somewhere less... scary..." smiled Big Mac, wanting them to be alone.
"Sure..." squeaked Fluttershy, relieved to get out of the crowd.
They both proceeded to a quieter place in silence.
Big Mac was wondering what to do now. He didn't have the slightest idea what to say. He didn't even remember why he had asked Fluttershy to go someplace where they'd be alone.
Maybe it had a link with his feelings towards the young mare.
But he knew that it'd be impossible.
Never would she love him, a big clumsy fool.
"Thank you for taking in consideration my... um... crowd fear?" murmured Fluttershy, making Big Mac jump.
He observed their surroundings and realized they were near the place where the hay maze would be.
"No worries. I know them ponies can be quite scary when they're at it. 'Specially on Nightmare Night" casually shrugged Big Macintosh.
"Yes... But I'll still have to find food for my poor little Angel bunny..."
"Why don't ya stay here a bit? Just tah... y'know cool down?" awkwardly suggested the red stallion.
A small, faint laugh came to his ears and rang like crystals.
He turned to see her with a hoof on her mouth, trying to make her chuckle go away.
"W... What's the matter?"
Fluttershy seemed even more amused. "I have no idea! I don't have the slightest hint why I'm laughing! Maybe it's nervousness!"
Big Mac smiled. "It's gettin' cold. Wanna go somewhere warmer?"
Fluttershy's gaze softened. "I... I... Sure..." A disappointed mutter came out of her mouth which made Big Mac worry.
"Don't you like it here?!" he quickly smiled, inching closer.
"I do! It's just... I like being alone with only one pony sometimes..."
A shooting star went by in the gloomy night and Big Mac saw Fluttershy stand up.
"Did you see?!" she exclaimed excitedly.
"Eeeyup! It was pretty big!"
"What wish did you make?" asked the yellow pegasus in the softest of voices.
"Uhhhh... Ah... Ah wished that... somepony could like..." Big Mac gagged. "cuddle me...?"
That word had been proposed by Applejack one day.
But he was pretty sure she had said that on the first of April.
"C... Cuddle..." repeated Fluttershy, making a weird face.
Big Mac quickly turned the other way before his blush would become redder than his coat.
"It's uh... Ah mean... Yeah. Cuddle."
"That's... surprisingly funny..." giggled Fluttershy. "And who might that pony be?"
"You."
The words came out before he could stop them.
His eyes widened at the same time his crush did.
Fluttershy quickly pulled her mane over her face. "M... Me...?"
"Eeee... yup..."
Big Mac stood up, feeling very hot. "Don't worry 'bout it! It's just in the heat of the moment and stuff. Ah'm gonna be goin' now..."
A small and fragile buttercream colored hoof stopped him and he turned to see Fluttershy's huge turquoise and bubbly eyes looking at her.
"You... um... made me laugh. On Nightmare Night. I forgot it was such a horrible night... Th... Thank you. And... i.. if that's your wish... Then I'll... I'll..." her cheeks became a deep red. "I'm okay with s... snuggling..."
Big Mac's face fell under the shock.
"Ya.. Ya don't have to!"
"But... I.. please just accept!" murmured the winged pony, still looking away.
The big red stallion awkwardly sat back down and she crawled into his arms, her face red.
He was surprisingly soft and smelled like fresh apples, making her think of a huge cuddly teddy bear.
They both looked up at the stars as Big Macintosh put a hoof on her head, warming her up.
Another shooting star passed in the sky.
But neither of them said anything.
They already had everything they wanted.
