Load Full StoryThe sun was hot as it rose in the bright Ponyville sky, banishing all darkness as it summoned the light. The day was calm as ponies, one by one, began to emerge from their houses and into the quiet morning streets of the little town. Pinkie Pie watched from her apartment window as the calm streets became crowded, bustling with noise within an hour. It was one of the many reasons she adored Ponyville. Not too loud that she may never be heard, like Canterlot, and not too quite where her songs would ring through the silence, like her old home, the rock farm.
Resting her chin on her window ledge, a sigh escaped her as a small smile reaches it's way onto her pink face. She could hardly wait to seize the day, she could practically feel the adrenaline rush through her veins, the excitement make her stomach turn.
Quickly she spun round and trot towards a chest near her bed where she could grab some party hats, party horns and poppers. Just little things she could keep in her bag as she looked for other party supplies. It'd been a while since she'd held one and she was starting to experience withdrawal. Five days, six hours, 3 minutes and 23 seconds... 24 seconds... 25 seconds... 26...
She'd kept count.
Rushing to her cork board, her blue hues dart back and forth as she glanced over party themes.
"ooooh~ cowboys and indians~ oooooh!! a pink themed party!!"
The pony squealed, clapping her hooves together with utter excitement. She'd invite twilight and applejack, oh and fluttershy, and she can't forget raindow, and of course if rarity's not too busy she'd invite her too. A hum of happiness leaves her, trotting down the stairs towards the kitchen to say good morning to Mr and Mrs Cake on her way out.
The smell of fresh out of the oven cupcakes wafts past her as she climbs down the stairs, this causes her adrenaline to heighten again. Running into the kitchen she glances around, eyes searching for where the aroma was coming from.
She'd just set eyes on the cake tray when she hears a voice from the other end of the room.
"those aren't for you silly filly~ it's a good thing you're up pinkie pie, I need your help today"
Mrs Cake made her way towards the pink pony. She sounded happy, as if she was excited to be having pinkie work in the kitchen again. She'd been spending so much time with Twilight and her other friends, she barley had had any time to bake anymore. The blue mare quickly grabs pinkie's hoof and leads her to a list of orders, sitting beside an open cookbook. It was open on the page for the cupcakes sitting just across the room. She could barley take her eyes of the things. Though, quickly, she glanced down at the long list of orders, her face lighting up at the sight.
"sure, Mrs. Cake~ I'll get them done by the end of the day!"
And so the forever sugar high mare, began her baking. One hour passed. Two. Three. Four. The day would soon be coming to a close and she hadn't even gotten through half of the orders she had to do. And then she'd have to box them as well. It seemed as though she wouldn't be getting to spend time with her friends today after all. Oh well, there was always tomorrow.
The next day, pinkie pie repeated her process in hopes of a better outcome today. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy baking, it was just that she'd much prefer to be spending time with Twilight and the others.
Moving from her window, down the stairs and towards the front door, she tries to avoid any sight of Mrs, Cake. She had a feeling. A feeling that she had more baking for her to do. And that they would take her all day again.
Just as she comes to the door, Twilight walks through it, a friendly smile on her lavender face.
"Hi, Pinkie Pie. I was just dropping in to see if my order for the picnic was ready"
She beams, gazing at the rose mare as she falters. Twilight's smile fades as she watches the sweat begin to form on Pinkies brow.
"o-order?"
She mumbles, biting down on her lip with nervousness. She hadn't seen an order from her friend, it was almost as though she'd just skipped over it. Or maybe she mixed it into the batter for another order. Pinkie's stomach turns. But not with excitement this time. With nervousness.
"uh, Pinkie? are you okay? what's the matter?"
The lavender mare tilts her head, taking a few trots towards her friend to rest a hoof on her shoulder. Giving reassurement that it's alright if she'd forgotten the order, that she can just get to it in her own time. It was clear to the bookworm that Pinkie was overwhelmed with orders at the moment, and that she had to do them all by herself. It really didn't matter to her as long as she knew her friend would have one less order to worry about.
Pinkie had forgotten all about the picnic, at least it was something to look forward to, right?
"oh pinkie! there you are!"
Grumbles a voice from behind her, the tapping of hooves coming closer. Mrs, Cakes's tone showed she was angry. But for what reason? She'd done all the orders. She'd done everything she asked. She didn't expect her to do another full day of working like yesterday did she?
Bidding a goodbye to Pinkie, Twilight saw herself out. It was obvious she'd only be interrupting things.
"get in that kitchen, pinkie pie! I thought I told you there'd be more orders for today!"
As soon as Twilight had left, Mrs, Cake had no reason to keep her happy tone in front of the usually chirpy pony. Her eyes remained towards the floor, fixed upon her pink hooves. There was still some dried batter and icing stuck to her rosy fur. A small sniff leaves her, she'd been reduced to that of a filly. Being yelled at by her superior for not doing something she hadn't been told to. Soon the sadness was replaced with anger, her blood boiling, temperature rising. Moving around her "boss", nothing but a frustrated sounding grunt escapes her.
Another day without spreading smiles. She knew Ponyville would miss her eventually. The town would become dull and lifeless without her. She knew it. Maybe they wouldn't miss her tomorrow. Or the next day. Or the next. But they would. Eventually.
