Warm Embrace
Fruigie Derby
Sunny. That was the best way to describe this afternoon. It was warm, but not too warm. Everything was still, but not too still, as if something incredible was going to happen. But now was now, and the future is gearing.
Somepony was flying through the sky, as if they were in a good mood. That somepony was Wild-Fire. Her mane was pitch-black, the same as her tail. Her wings glimmered, as they hit the sun with each flutter. The cutie-mark, on her flank, resembled a bright ball of flame. A smile hit her face. It wasn't a happy smile, but a sort of neutral smile. She looked down, and spotted a tiny, little farm,"Cranberry Hills". WildFire descended next to a small barn at the edge of the farm.
"Yo, peachy!", the mare called out. Inside the barn, there was a thud. It was odd, there's never been such a sound ever heard before. Next, there was a voice,"One second", it squeaked. WildFire was puzzled, what could she possibly be doing? The barn door creaked open, and there stood a little pony. She was small for her age, roughly a month younger than WildFire. Her body was bright apricot,"peachy" color, and her mane resembled a ripe pumpkin. Her cutie-mark was a bright orange peach, surrounded by 3 circles.
She wrapped her arms around Wildfire. "WF, it's so nice to see you! This is the 36th time you've visited me, this month!", she giggled. WildFire giggled back,"Wull duh, yer like my best friend!". She bumped into something midway into the barn. Something was odd about the colossal object. It was fuzzy and sort of soft."Could it be a mutant hamster?", WildFire thought. But that's ridiculous, hamsters like that would probably be banned to the Forest.
WF looked up, and there place before her, stood the most ginormous peach she had ever seen! "Whoa, not a mutant hamster! Not a mutant hamster!", she exclaimed over again.
"What?", Peachy Willow replied."That's no hamster, it's a peach, silly!" This fruit, that sat in the barn, was enormous(if you didn't already know). WildFire then said,"Peachy, d--did you grow this?" Peachy replied,"Of course! I also fertilized, cared. clipped, fed, bathed, hugged, snuggled--" "OK, I get it!", WildFire interrupted,"but why go through all the trouble to grow this?"
"Wull, duh! For the Annual Agricultural Competition, of course!", peachy said, puffing out her chest."You're gonna blow them all away! It's huge!", WildFire exclaimed. Peachy then frowned,"That'snot what i'm worried about." "What is it?", WildFire asked.
"I also have to drag this ten hundred pound fruit half a mile in a race with 9 other teams!"
WildFire's mouth gaped open. I wouldn't be surprised if yours did too. Try and imagine a pony trying to drag something 100 times it's size. That's just unethical. But, there was a reason she was doing this.
"You see", she began,"For years, earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns alike partake in this joyous occasion. Everyone gets to engorge themselves in all the delicious treats, and laugh and have fun. The most famous event, is the "Fruigie Derby!" Her eyes glimmered as she explained more. "To qualify, your fruit or vegetable has to exceed 750 pounds. If it isn't, you don't qualify!" WildFire stared at the fruit, "I think it's over 750 pounds."
Willow continued,"For generations, my family has qualified and competed in the race. And, now it's my turn to show them what iv'e got!" WildFire interjected,"Now peachy, I have your full support but, how are you going to transport an 800 pound peach half a mile?"
"It's a double race, where you can have a partner join you and help!", peachy replied, "That's where you come in! You didn't expect widdle ol' me to carry this!", she squeaked. WildFire snorted and replied,"Well, i'd love to!"
"Say...", WildFire started, "What do you receive when you win?" "The winner's veggie or fruit will be made into salad or pie, and that's when Princess Celestia will there to congratulate the winner!", she replied.
"That's quite an honor, peachy!", WildFire said."Let's do our best!"
"Yes! Let's!", Peachy happily replied.
