The final straw had been broken that morning. It was breakfast and a usual one at that. The family had gathered around for breakfast - except for her - except for Starlight.
It was 7:00 in the morning, after all. Starlight had been sleeping just fine when she heard some hoofsteps near her door. She awoke, frightend. Her mother was in the hallway. She had come to most likely scream in her face for not waking up because while her family hated the notion that everyone had to be the same way, they nevertheless agreed that they should all wake up for breakfast at the same time. She had come to expect that Shimmer Bright would wake up with the rest of the family; that's what she always did when someone was being a night owl and didn't wake up on time! And that is what she did - she got mad!
''Starlight, you have to learn to wake up at 7:00 or there will be consequences!'' her mother yelled. She was used to this. So sad.
Meanwhile, Night Sky, her father, was preparing oatmeal and pancakes at relatively the same time. It might sound impossible to make two meals at the same time, but it was a mere inconvenience for a unicorn. That's who Starlight got her horn from, anyway. But, unbeknownst to her father, that oatmeal would change her life forever.
As she walked down the stairs to the main room to have her morning meal, a disgustingly familiar voice shouted from the breakfast table.
''Good morning, Curlhair!'' shouted Shine Star, her younger sister. uhg. She always called her that horrible nickname. It bugged her right down to her very soul because Shine Star called her that name all the time just like like it was her real name. ''Stupid sister'' thought Starlight. She thought that every morning. Realy, it was the same for all her family. Her mom would scream, Her dad would give her CONSTANT timeouts, her younger sister would yell at her, and her older brother,Glory Dawn... lets just say she was used to his domiain of action. She was used to punishment after punishment on a degree. But this morning would be different. Intolerable.
Anyway, Starlight was heading down to her breakfast, and she sat down to her seat at the breakfast table. It was Glory Dawn's turn to serve breakfast today. It might seem pointless to some, taking turns to serve the meals, but Starlight's family would take any chance to bring diversity to their household. They just didn't see the system it would create.
Starlight knew very well that her family hated equality. That's what she was usually punished for, of course, Starlight thought as Glory Dawn served the family their meals. Shine Star got Dragon-o's, Glory Dawn got Pancakes, Shimmer Bright got fried eggs, Night Sky got toast and an omlet, and Starlight got...oatmeal. Something infuriated her about that, but she didn't know what. Starlight, for whatever reason, felt rebellious today.
Something was telling her to take Shine Star's Dragon-o's from under her hooves, even thought she had the Dragon-o's yesterday. She had to. No, she needed to. She decided to grab them under the table, so she snuck under it to get her prize Before doing so, she had told her family she needed to go to the little filly's room, so that where they thought she was. That's when it happened. Starlight Glimmer was so determined to get the cearial that she accedentally rammed into Shine star's chair, and Shine Star knew who it was the moment she started tipping over. Whith a loud crash, the other family members (except Starlight) looked down on the ground to see a crying Shine Star covered in milk and Dragon-o's, as Starlight was attacking the Dragon-o's left in Shine's boul. Starlight felt no remorse, because something was just...going to change that day.
"STARLIGHT!" shouted Shimmer Bright. ''EAT ONE MORE DRAGON-O AND YOURE GETTING A TIME-OUT FROM NIGHT!''
''Whoh!'' thought Starlight Glimmer. "Did she just become even louder than before?"
Some force was trying to tell her something about what was happening, but she just couldn't her it over her crying sister,her screaming mother, her mean father...her butal older brother...her mean familly...Slowly relization dawned on Starlight.
''Have I had enough?'' thought Starlight, as her older brother declared
"This means war, Starlight! Bloody WAR!" Glory Dawn began to run to the other side of the table after declaring war, ready to attack her. Starlight immedietly started running upstairs to her bedroom, but things only got worse as Shine Star stood up and ran after her too, most likely to call her names, Just like every ''torture ceremony''. This was different though. Starlight felt more afraid and angrier than ever before.
''What is this force trying to tell me!?!'' thought Starlight as she ran to her room in a state of panic like she never felt before. Quickly she used her magic to telaport herself inside her room and lock the door. Every thing felt against her in this world more than ever before, and she now she knew why. She had finaly reached her breaking point and was breaking hard.
''STARLIGHT!'' yelled her mother from outside her room. " GET OUT OF THERE AND GO TO THE TIME- OUT ROOM RIGHT NOW!"
''Yes mom!" shouted Starlight as she exeted her room and went to sit on the chair in the cold, isolated, 100% equal at at all times time out room. the reason that it was the one room and only room to be symmetrical and equal was to punish Shimmer's children whith visions of equality, which as you know Starlight's family hated.
Except this time-out, something was different. Not the room, not the tempurature, but the vibe. something just felt...right. like this force had changed her view of the world. ''My family" thought Starlight, "it is too torturous for me to live here with my family anymore. I've had ENOUGH!''
And right in that room, right at that hour, right at that minute, right at that second, right at that moment was a thought that changed her and many other ponies lives drastically. "I'm going to escape from this touture tonight. End this and prove that equality is special''.
