It was the day after the friendship games, and the school was at peace once more. school had just let out for the day, and Rainbow dash was at her locker. She shut her locker and turned to head for the door. Someone walked by her, and scared her a bit. She gave a small shout, and the other person jumped and started clenching their chest.
"I'm sorry, are you alright!?" Rainbow dash asked.
"Yeah, you just scared me. Jesus I almost had a heart attack." He said. She looked at the boy before her. He had brown hair, blue eyes, a peachy white skin color, and he was wearing black leather from head to toe.
"Hey, I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new?" She asked.
"Yeah, I just transferred here today." He said.
"Oh. so what's with the leather? Are you a biker?" Rainbow inquired.
"Yeah, I own a Harley Breakout. It has some nice Mini-apes on it, they put the Handle bars at a comfortable height." He said.
"Oh, ok. Well, my name is Rainbow dash. What's yours?" Rainbow asked.
"Richard Garret, but you can call me what ever you feel like. I've had people call me Rich, Richard, someone even called me asshole for an entire year." The boy said.
"Well, nice meeting you Rich." She said. Richard gave a thumbs up and continued walking. Rainbow couldn't shake the feeling that he was a little lonely, so she decided to act. "Hey, wait!" Richard turned and looked at her. "You made any friends yet?" She asked.
"No, not yet. I think it's because my outfit intimidates them a bit." Richard said. Rainbow bit her lip for a second.
"Would you like to hang out with me and my friends for a bit? We're going to sugarcube corner for some shakes." She said. Richard thought for a moment.
"Sure, I've got nothing to do other than homework, So why not." Richard said.
"Cool, follow me."
The two walked into Sugarcube corner. They sat down and had a short introduction with the others. the first thing Richard saw was a blue haired guy talking to a purple girl. Richard sighed like he was annoyed. Rainbow looked at him curiously.
"What's up with you?" Rainbow asked. Richard gestured to the two. "So what? does that bother you?" Richard looked at her. For a moment.
"Maybe it does, yeah." He said.
"Why?" Rainbow asked. Richard rested his elbow on the arm rest to the couch and put his chin on his hand. He sighed and looked out the window. Something clicked in Rainbows head, and she smiled. "Your jealous, aren't you?!" She asked. Richard only looked at her, then shifted his gaze back out the window. "Oh my god, you are jealous!" She said. Richard sighed. "why are you jealous?" She asked.
"What about me right now screams 'I've been on a date'?" Richard asked.
"Ummm...."
"That's what I thought. I see others that have it so easy when it comes to that stuff, meanwhile I literally couldn't get a date if my life depended on it. So yeah, I'm gonna be a little miffed when I see that stuff." He said.
"Cheer up man. Anyway, I'm gonna get a smoothie. You want anything?" Rainbow asked. Richard shook his head. While she was gone, applejack tried to spark up a conversation.
"So, do ya know anything about apples?" She asked.
"Other then the fact that their seeds contain cyanide, no." Richard said. Rarity tried next.
"So, is there any particular reason you wear your outfit?" She asked.
"Yeah, i like black and leather is durable, so I can ride my motorcycle in this." Richard said. Rarity decided not ask anymore. It was pinkie's turn.
"So Richy, what kinda music you listen too?!" She asked.
"First off, don't call me Richy. Only my father can call me that. Second, I listen to heavy metal." He said. Pinkie had nothing after that. Fluttershy decided to give it a try.
"Do you own any pets?" She asked. Richard shook his head.
"Nope, afraid not." He said. Sunset decided to try and talk with him.
"So, how do you like the school?" She asked.
"Jesus woman, it's only my first day. It's a little early to form an opinion." Richard said. The group went silent, they couldn't think of anything else to try. Rainbow dash came back with her smoothie and sat down next to Richard.
"So Rich, you like motorcycles huh?" Rainbow asked.
"Yup."
"Cool, I personally like the Sportbikes. I like the idea of going really fast." She said.
"I can see the appeal there. I'm more of a fast cruiser kinda guy myself. I like the large size of the bikes, it gives you the feeling that they're powerful." He said.
"I could probably enjoy something like that, I've only ever riden a sportbike before, so I can't speak for any other type of bike. But anyway, what kinda music do you like?" She asked.
"I mostly listen to heavy metal, but there are a few songs in the rock genre that I listen too." Richard said.
"Like what?" She asked.
"Like AC/DC's shoot to thrill, and a few songs by early Metallica. I mostly listen to late Metallica though, just because it's more metal." He said.
"What kind of heavy metal songs do you listen too the most?" Rainbow asked.
"Well, there is nightmare by avenged sevenfold. I also listen to a bit of halestorm and coal chamber. And I listen to one song by disturbed." He said.
"Do you play any instruments?" She asked.
"Yep, I can play an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar. But there is one more instrument I can play." He said.
"What is it?" Rainbow asked.
"The piano. My mother made me learn it." Richard said.
"That's Awesome! What do you guys think?" She asked the others. They just starred at her like she had just done something amazing. Applejack leaned into Rainbows ear.
"We've been tryin to start a conversation with him, but it just goes no where. We don't know why you can talk to him so easy." Applejack said.
"Heard that." Richard said, still staring out the window. Applejack blushed a bit.
"Aw come on guys! He's not that hard to talk to." Rainbow said. Richard sighed and got up. He walked out the front door and pulled his key out of his pocket. Rainbow dash ran out after him. "Hey! where you goin!?" She said.
"Home, gym, I don't really care. But I'm not gonna sit there with them if I clearly make them uncomfortable." Richard said calmly.
"Aw come on man! Just come back inside with us. You might enjoy yourself!" Rainbow said. Richard exhaled.
"Listen, I know your trying to be nice. But it's obvious that I don't really have anything in common with them, and it's kinda freaking them out." Richard said.
"Come on! Please!" She pulled on his arm.
"Fine." He groaned.
"Yes!" She said.
"Just let me get my MP3 player and head phones out front my saddle bag." He said. He opened the bag and pulled out the device and the earbuds. He turned to see someone holding Rainbow dash by the entrance to the shop. He was covering her mouth, and held a knife to her neck with his right hand.
"Give me your money." He said. Richard sighed and ran up to the man quietly. He grabbed the mans right wrist, and squeezed. The man tried to break free, but Richard didn't even budge. He slowly moved his had away from her neck, and delivered one strong kick to his side. Richard approached him slowly.
"You got lucky. I could have done a lot more to you if it wasn't still daylight. Now, I suggest that you run." Richard said. The man got up and ran. Richard watched him run. He heard the shop door open, and the sound of foot steps behind him.
"You alright RD?" Applejack asked.
"What took you so long? That Richard didn't hurt you did he?!" Rarity asked. For Richard, that was the straw that broke the camels back. He just jumped on his bike and left. Rainbow chased him for a few feet, but she gave up.
"Gee, way to go Rarity. You just scared off the guy who saved my life." Rainbow said.
"Oh, well I feel just awful. It wasn't very polite of me to talk about him that way." Rarity said.
"What happened?" Applejack asked.
"Well, he was trying to leave because he didn't want to make you all uncomfortable, but I stopped him. He agreed to come back Inside with me, but he wanted to get his MP3 first. While he was doing that, someone tried to mug me. He stopped them, and chased them off. Then you guys came out and, well you know the rest." Rainbow said, clearly sad.
"This is all my fault, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions just because he's different." Rarity said.
"It's alright, I'll just talk to him later." Rainbow said.
Richard was laying on his bed, jamming out to some music, when his phone buzzed in his pocket. He looked down, and saw it was a text from an unknown number. He opened it to find a message.
"Hey, it's Rainbow. You there?" it said.
"Yeah I'm here. how did you get my number?" he asked.
"I snuck a look at your phone when you weren't looking. Anyway, Rarity wants you to know that she's really sorry about what she said." rainbow said.
"Its alright, I'm use to it. Is that the only reason you texted me?" he asked.
"No, I wanted you to know that me and the girls are having a sleep over at my house, and I wanted to ask if you wanted to join us." she said.
"Really? A guy at a slumber party filled with girls? I've seen enough hentia to know where this is going." he said.
"Not like that! I just meant like to hangout!" she replied.
"I don't know..." he said.
"Pppllleeeeeaaaaasssee!!! *pouty face*" she said.
"Ugh, fine. I'll be by in fifteen minutes." he said.
"Great! I'll text you the address! And bring your guitar!" she said.
Richard rang the door bell and stuffed his hand in his pocket. In his other hand, he was holding a guitar case. He could see his breath because of how cold it was. The door opened and Rainbow dash looked out. She was wearing her pajamas, and slippers.
"Oh, hey Rich! Thought you weren't gonna show. I see you brung your guitar like I asked. Come on in!" She said. Richard nodded and stepped inside. He observed his surroundings, he exhaled. He noticed a strange sensation in his chest and stomach.
'Oh no, no god, not now! Why now!?' He thought. He began to turn pale, he was starting to hyperventilate.
"You ok?" Rainbow asked.
"No... I'm having.... An anxiety attack." He said. He pulled a pill bottle out of his pocket and opened it. He took one and sat down for a few moments, taking deep breaths.
"What was that you took?" Rainbow asked.
"My anxiety medication. I'm suppose to take one every time I have an anxiety attack. I don't know what triggers the attacks, but I get them." Richard said. 'Why doesn't this thing stay quiet!? Why must I suffer with anxiety attacks every time it wants out!?' Richard thought. His heart rate slowed and he began breathing normally. "I'm good now. Gezz that was close." Richard said.
"Well, me and the girls are playing video games in the other room. You can come if you like." She said. She walked into her bed room and sat down on her bed. Her friends were in her room using the tv for games. Richard shrugged and walked in. He sat down in a chair and watched them play games for a bit. After a few minutes, he was snapped out of it by Rainbow dash.
"So Rich, I've been dying to hear you play. What songs do you know?" Rainbow asked.
"I've got one from halestorm I know really well. I could try that." Richard said.
"What's the name of the song?" Rainbow asked.
"You call me a bitch." Richard said.
"Well, let's hear it!" Rainbow said. She pulled out a mini amp and handed Richard the cord. He plugged in his guitar and set the amp.
"Alright, three, two, one." He began to play the song, getting more and more into it as he played. He actually started singing the lyrics to the song, and he wasn't to bad. Granted, his voice couldn't go as high as a girls voice, but it could go decently high to pull off a rough voiced female. He started slightly bobbing his head to the song. He was putting more and more energy into the song as he played. Eventually, the song ended and the girls clapped.
"Your too kind." He said.
"Your really good Richard!" Sunset said.
"Thank you, but I'm sure Rainbow could do better then me." He said.
"I don't know dude, why don't you play the most complicated song you can think of." Rainbow said.
"Alright, but I won't be singing for this one." Richard said.
"Why ever not darling?" Rarity asked.
"Because the name of the song is 'God hates us'. If that's just the name, imagine what the lyrics are like." Richard said.
"Oh, i see. Well, don't let me delay you any further." Rarity said.
"Alright, let's begin." Richard said. He started the opening guitar solo. already pumped up from the last song, it didn't take him long to get back to full energy while playing. He played like there was no tomorrow. Each beat was precise, and clean. After about five minutes, he finished the song. Rainbow applauded.
"Wow dude! I think you even have me beat there! That was awesome!" She said.
"Thank you." Richard said, he was blushing a bit.
"Do you think you could demonstrate some of your piano skills too darling?" Rarity asked.
"Maybe some other time." Richard said. The girls went back to what they were doing before hand, and Richard wanted to relax. He decided to lay flat on the floor and listen to music. He grabbed a pillow and put it under his head. As he was laying there, he began to feel drowsy. The anxiety attack and that guitar session really took a lot out of him, he felt drained. Sleep washed over him soon enough, and his world swam into blackness.
He woke up the next day still on the floor, laying flat on his back and looking at the ceiling. But there was something warm laying next to him. He noticed that it felt like something was holding him, and something was resting on his chest. He looked down to see Sunset laying there. She had her arms wrapped around his torso, and her head was laying on his chest. She looked so peaceful while she slept. Richard decided that it would be best not to wake her, so he decided to pull his phone out and watch videos with his earbuds in.
Forty five minutes went by, and Sunset was finally waking up. She rubbed her eyes first and looked around. Once she saw who she was holding onto, and that he was awake, she quickly shot upright. She was blushing heavily.
"Morning sleepy head. You sleep well?" Richard said.
"I-I'm sorry for keeping you there. I didn't mean to-you know." She said.
"It's alright, I don't mind. You looked like you were pretty tired out so I let you sleep. Well anyway, how did you sleep?" Richard asked.
"I-I slept pretty good." She said nervously.
"Sunset, you don't need to be nervous. I'm not gonna judge you. I've been judged by peers before, so I'm not gonna do that to you." Richard said.
"W-What makes you think I'm nervous?" She asked.
"Well for one, your stuttering. Two, your blushing bright red." Richard said. She blushed even harder. "Look, I'm not judging you for that. It's a natural instinct to want to huddle up to a source of warmth when you're asleep. It's no big deal." Richard said. She was avoiding his gaze. "Let me guess, your hiding something. Well you can tell me, ok?" Richard said.
"I-I'm gonna go get some breakfast." She said. She got up and walked out of the room. Richard just shrugged and tried to see if he could catch anymore sleep. He had a feeling that he would need the extra energy. It was Saturday, and he had a feeling that the gang would want to do a bunch today.
