It had been a few months since Luna had defeated the Tantabus. She was a known as a heroine to all the ponies of Ponyville. But she still hasn't forgiven herself for what she did, and as much as she hated to admit it every day she felt herself slipping back in to the darkness. Luna was looking down on the darkened houses of her sleeping subjects, thinking.
It was about time for her elder sister: Celestia to raise the sun and she was tired. She didn't know what it was but her soft bed and warm sheets where calling for her. As soon as the first ray of light shown over the hill Luna was in her bed. She had just began to fall asleep when there was a tug at the back of her mind as if something of her own consciousness was trying to communicate with her.
"Luna, my dear sweet Luna, come," A voice called echoing through her mind. Luna jumped out of bed immediately and backed into a corner, a glowing sphere of purple energy radiating from her horn.
"Oh my dear Luna," The voice called again "I am no threat... to you, now come, here,"
"Where." Luna called her eyes scanning the room. She then felt a sharp pain and a shrill screech followed. Luna clamped her eyes shut as if the only thing that was going to protect her from what ever made the sound.
The voice echoed again "Here."
Luna opened her eyes barley and when she saw nothing she opened them fully. She was in a large chamber with stone walls and three windows on each side. the stones where worn and chipped and the glass on the windows where almost completely gone. in the middle of the room stood a pedestal with a large spherical stone on top. From the middle of the pedestal sprout five smaller stands, each holding a similar sphere yet a bit smaller.
On the opposite side of Luna stood an allicorn with a coat as black as a starless night. There was a small area of purple on the mares flank along with a blueish white crescent moon. Light purple armor covered her head, feet and surrounded her neck, like a necklace. Her wings and horn came to a sharp point at the tip and her main was a purple hue scattered with flecks of silver. She was looking right at Luna with a gaze that turned her blood cold her cat like orbs where teal with black slit pupils.
"Hello my dear sweet Luna." She called. "Its been a while hasn't it?"
Lunas mind runs blank and she doesn't know whether to attack or run from the shadow of who she once was. The shadow and memory of Nightmare Moon.
The dark mare looked out the shattered window dully. It was night still, "Such a beautiful night it is, to bad all your subjects sleeping through it." She says pitifully.
"Dose it not make you angry? Knowing that your sister and her day get all the glory?! Arn't you sick of being stuck in her shadow!?" Her tone changing to anger now.
Luna looks down at at floor a small tear flowing down her face "N-no, I... I'm perfectly fine." She says the cracking in her voice showing she was lying.
Nightmare Moon held out a hoof to the pony, "Join me, we can destroy the Elements and your sister. In the end you will rule Equestria and all will bow down to you."
Luna lifted her head slowly, "Can I trust you?" She said faintly
Nightmare Moon smiled "If you can't trust your own conscience than who can you trust?"
Luna closed her eyes and took hold of her hoof and in a flash Luna was gone.
Celestia had woken up a little late and rushed out to her balcony. Her sister Luna was weary and clearly in need of a rest. Celestia raised the sun as fast as she could so that her sister could take a break. Luna had been acting slightly different. Celestia would walk by her room and hear soft sobbing or yelling through the door. Celestia didn't want a re occurrence of the Nightmare Moon incident, not ever. It broke her heart to have to send her own sister away. So she decided to do her a favor.
She headed to the kitchen and began to prepare a nice meal for her sister it was small but satisfying. Eggs and sausage with orange juice in a glass cup. She added a dark black lotus to the tray, a rare flower that only grows in the Everfree. It was Lunas favorite flower, dark and mysterious. She cast a simple spell enclosing the tray in a soft golden glow before carefully lifting it with the magic. She then headed over to her sisters room and knocked on the door. There was no answer.
"Luna?" She said, "May I come in?"
No reply but the door slowly creaked open. Celestia walked in to the dark room her horn illuminating most of it
"Luna?"
The bed was empty but the sheets where not un touched. They where halfway hanging of the bed and one of the pillows had fallen off.
"Luna?" She called again this time worried.
She turned around and what she saw horrified her. She dropped the tray on the ground, the glass cup shattering. There in the corner was her dear sister laying on the ground unmoving. Not even her chest was moving, she wasn't breathing.
"LUNA!" Celestia called, tears starting to stream from her face
"Don't worry about her, she's fine. If I where you I'd be worrying for myself." A voice hissed, cold and dark.
Celestias eyes widened at the sight of her. "How are you here!?" She cries tears still falling from her face as she cradles her sisters limp body in her hoofs. "What have you done to my sister!?"
Nightmare Moon glares. "Stop pretending to love her!" She yells "You don't under stand her."
"And you believe you do!?" Celestia yells. "I am her sister! I will love her no matter what happens!" A small golden light forming at the tip of her horn. "We have our quarrels like all siblings but I will l will love her to no end!!! I would move mountains for Luna!" Celestia yells, her sadness replaced with hate, as the light quickly forms in to a large gold sphere. With a swipe she sends it flying towards Nightmare Moon who tries to stop the impact but, her magic is completely useless to the large sphere that was hurdling towards her. She closed her eyes preparing for another major defeat, but no sting. No pain. She opened an eye to find herself in a shimmering gold cell.
"What!?" She said smirking, "You honestly are so stupid to think that a silly little cell would stop me!?" Nightmare moon reaches out and touches one of the bars but is given a painful burn. ""Aaagh!" She yells anger and pain combined.
"This cell will push out the darkness till my sister is back. Then, and only then will those bars let you out."
Nightmare moon growls "I will never be gone. As long as Luna lives I live!"
Celestia leaves the room not wanting to hear more from the imposter. But thoughts linger in her mind,
"What if," She mumbles "What if, Nightmare Moon keeps making uprisings, w-what if I have to either watch my sister kill my people or, kill my sister?"
