I had this thing going on in my head what would happen if the CMC's were to rescue the Mane 6 from Bowser. So I'd thought I make an MLP/Super Mario Bros. crossover not because I love both of them, because I want to see what would happen if the elements of the properties would interact. And this was one of my ideas.
