The Ministry of Defense is not the most well oiled machine within Canterlot, as some of the Lords that make up the Ministry could be called inept, incompetent and possibly corrupt.

They could've chosen anypony to assemble a new company of Royal Guards, along with deploying alongside and aid in protecting the citizens of Equestria in the south from any possible attacks.

Attacks that escalates above pie throwing never happens these days, but it never hurts to be prepared to confront, and repel attacks from members that could be part of either the Boar Hordes, Bison Renegades, Changeling Infiltrators, Zebra Cultists, Griffon Marauders, Dog Raiders, Minotaur Bandits or Dragons. Although the probability of combating these groups of aggressors are a slim chance.


They had a wide variety of Royal Guard Officers and Commissioned Nobles who are capable, experienced, respected among the Royal Guard to appoint the position of Commander to this tasking, but they instead chose Prince "Vladímir" Blueblood.
