Pinkiepie and Rainbowdash sat in the special window, the one they'd been spilling there secrets out at since little fillies. And they were the bests of friends.
"Why do we have to sneak out of the house if we're not doing anything wrong until we sneak onto the subway?" Pinkiepie asked Rainbowdash.
Rainbowdash was always hanging out in the subway, saying hi and walking around. Now she thought it was time for Pinkiepie to join that world. But they both knew her parents wouldn't let her.
"You think you're ready to just walk by your parents?" Rainbowdash asked, trying to hold back laughter.
"I think I'm ready," Pinkiepie said, determined.
"Let me see your face as you walk by your parents." Rainbowdash said.
Pinkuepie smiled nervously, acting elaborately casual.
"Why are you making that face at us Pinkie?" Rainbowdash questioned, trying to seem like her mom.
"Because I'm sneaking out to the subway," Pinkiepie admitted. Then she noticed she told the truth.
Pinkiepie pointed her hoof to the window, "Out the window, let's go!"
As Rainbowdash and Pinkiepie climbed out, there was an unexcpected guest.
"Daddy?" Pinkiepie examined. "What are you doing out here?!"
"Being smarter than me," Rainbowdash sighed, climbing back in. "How come you're always smarter than me?"
Pinkiepie followed her. And they sat back on the bed, with Celestia coming inside.
"Here's what I'm thinking," he said. "It's not your world yet, it's still my world. Because if it was your world, Rainbowdash would have you on the subway already, thinking you put something over on me. But you didn't; know how I know? Look at you, you're right here."
Pinkiepie turned to Rainbowdash, "How long do I have to live in my fathers world?"
"Until you make it yours," Celestia said, smiling. "Pinkie, do you know what I want more than anything? Go ahead, make it yours!"
"I will." Pinkiepie replied. "And when I do, will you still be there for me?"
"Right here," Pinkiepie's mom, Luna, said. "We'll be right here."
The reassuring was enough for those two, because they left in a flash.
Derpy played the drums with garbage can lids.
"Derpy!" Rainbowdash said, laughing.
"Dash!" Derpy said, casually. "Who's the new chick?"
"Chick!" Pinkiepie said, laughing. "Down here I'm a chick! No wonder my parents don't want me on the Subway."
"You're slouching Dash," Carrot Top teased, walking by.
"Thanks Carrots!" Rainbowdash said, standing up straight and laughing.
Pinkiepie and Rainbowdash went into the Subway train. Inside, Pinkiepie applied lipgloss.
"Woah, Pinkie," Rainbowdash said. "You don't do lipgloss!"
"Oh!" Pinkiepie replied. "What I forgot to mention is that I'm completely reinventing myself. I ride the Subway now, I have kiwi lips now, and I'm just as cool as you now!"
"Yeah," Rainbowdash laughed. "Let's see how cool you can be when you look at him!"
Pinkiepie soon sees Applejack, sitting in a seat not too far away. She smiled big at him. And he smiled back.
"Yeah, you're gunna need some lessons," Rainbowdash said. "Let me show you everything you need to know about boys and girls."
Rainbowdash walks over to Applejack and sits beside him.
"Hi, I'm Rainbowdash," she said, fluttering her eyelashes. "You're really cute. We should hang out sometime, you make me happy. You don't pay enough attention to me. This isn't working out. It's you, not me. We can still be friends, not really."
Rainbowdash walked away and stood beside Pinkiepie.
"He's available," Rainbowdash said. "We just broke up!"
"Are you okay?" Pinkiepie asked. "Do we need to talk about it?"
"You still wanna be like me?" Rainbowdash asked her.
"I want to be exactly like you!" Pinkiepie answered, happily. "I think too much, and, you don't think at all!"
"See?" Rainbowdash said. "You get me, so let's not think,"
Rainbowdash tosses Pinkiepie over. Pinkiepie topples into Applejack's lap.
"Hi." Pinkiepie said, smiling. "We were just talking about you. You used to go out with my friend, Rainbowdash,"
"I'm Applejack," Applejack said, grinning.
"I love it!" Pinkie replied.
"Perhaps somepony would like to give their seat to someone older," Granny Smith said, walking to the seat where Pinkiepie was sitting.
"Please don't make me move!" Pinkiepie begged. "I just wanna see where this goes,"
"I've just worked a 12-hour shift," Granny Smith rudely replied. "And I wanna see where this goes!" She points at her flank. "Okay?"
Pinkiepie stood up, and walked to Rainbowdash.
"That was great!" Pinkie said, smiling.
"You're welcome," Rainbowdash said, pleased.
"What if that was the best moment of my life?" Pinkiepie asked, sadly. "What if nothing ever happens to me again?"
Rainbowdash smiled, and tosses Pinkie again; this time, she falls into Granny Smith.
"It's for you," Granny Smith said, putting Pinkiepie on Applejack's lap. They stared into each other's eyes, smiling.
At the school, Pinkiepie and Rainbowdash went to their lockers.
"Did you have trouble with the homework?" Pinkiepie asked Rainbowdash.
"Piece o' cake!" Rainbowdash answered.
"You didn't do it, did you?" Pinkiepie asked, she sure knew her friend.
"I don't even know where my books are," Rainbowdash replied.
"You have to do the homework," Pinkiepie answered, smiling. "This teacher's insane, a total nut job! I think there's something seriously wrong with him,"
"Hi, honey," Celestia said, smiling.
Celestia is Pinkie's dad, and teacher.
"Hi daddy!" Pinkiepie answered, cheerfully.
"You're late to your father's class!" He said.
"Oh," Rainbowdash said, all awesome. "Don't worry, Mr.Matthews, you wrote her a note."
"I did?" Celestia asked, silently.
"You did!" Rainbowdash said, handing a note to Pinkie. Pinkie passed it up to her dad.
Celestia read the note out loud, "Riley's late. Deal with it. Oh, you got my signature down pretty good this time,"
"Oh, it was easy," Rainbowdash said. "You write like a girl."
"Okay," Celestia said, at last. "Let me get back to jamming some learning in your heads! The Civil War."
"The Civil Bore," Rainbowdash mimicked, sulking in her seat.
"Thank you," Celestia said sarcastically. "Future Mini-Mart employee of the month,"
"Would I be making more money than you?" Rainbowdash asked.
Everything went silent.
"The Civil War!" Celestia said at last, "Anybody?"
"A war we fought against ourselves," Pinkiepie said, disspointed.
"What," Celestia said. "You actually studied it?!"
"No," she answered. "I'm actually living it," she slammed her head on her desk.
"People, people," Twilight said. "Are we here to learn or not?"
"What do you mean, Twilight?" Celestia asked.
"I've been in love with Pinkie since the first grade," Twilight replied. "But I'm also equally in love with Rainbowdash. Some might say the great mystery of the universe, is who's gunna be the first Ms.Sparkle!"
Rainbowdash turned around in her seat, "You don't want this,"
"Bring it on!" Twilight answered, evil-like.
"I always thought he'd in up with Back-of-the-Class Brenda," Pinkiepie admits.
Brenda waved shyly at Twilight.
"Yuck!" Twilight said, disgusted.
"Actually," Celestia said. "The great mystery of the universe is how you can love two mares the same who couldn't possibly be more different,"
"We're not so different," Pinkiepie frowned.
Twilight raised his hand, "May I overstep my bounds, sir?"
"You always do," Celestia said, smiling and switching places with Twilight.
"Pinkie, is the sun. Warm and bright, and lights up my whole day. Maya, is the night. Dark and mysterious. And the night has always been a mystery to me. Because I go bed at 7:30. How can I love these two different mares? How can I not? Thank you, I am TWILIGHT!!"
"So," Celestia said, getting back into his place. "We were indeed trying to find out who we were, as ponies. Who am I? What should I be? History shows the bad things happen when you don't know who you are."
Applejack entered the room.
"Who are you?" Celestia asked him. "I don't know who you are!"
"Subway colt!" Pinkiepie whispered to Rainbowdash, and they grinned at him.
"I'm Applejack, from Austin, Texas." Applejack said, handing Mr.Matthews (Celestia) a note.
"Oh, new student, Mr.Apple?" Celestia asked.
"Yes, sir," Applejack said, happily.
"Great," Celestia said. "You're just in time for today's assignment; have a seat!"
Applejack sat down behind Rainbowdash.
"Okay," Celestia said. "So we..so I'd like you guys open your books to page 48. Now, I'd like you to turn to page one. Now, I'd like you to read from page one to 48."
Everypony groaned.
"Oh too bad on you," Celestia informed. "Okay, so for tonight's assignment, I'd like you to write me a three page essay on anything. Anything at all, that you guys believe in so strongly, you'd fight for it."
"That," Rainbowdash said. "I'd fight for no homework. I come here everyday, why can't you teach me what I need to know while I'm here?"
"Woo!" Pinkiepie yelled. Then she saw her dad, angry. "Not woo!"
"He gets our days," Rainbowdash yelled. "Let's take back our nights. No homework, more freedom! Who's with me?"
Then all the class joined in, "No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom!"
"This is it kid," Rainbowdash whispered to Pinkiepie. "You wanna be like me? Stand up!"
Then the whole class again, "No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom!"
"What're you doing?" Celestia asked them.
"I'm making a choice about who I want to be." Pinkiepie said, determindily. "And about whose world I want it to be!"
"Pinkie, I know you," Celestia said, comfortingly. "You know exactly who you are!"
"Then who am I, dad?" Pinkiepie asked.
"You're just like me!" Celestia replied.
"Oh yeah?" Pinkiepie asked. "Would you do this? No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom! Twilight, are you with us or not? No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom!"
"My education? Or my mare?" Twilight asked himself. "My education? Or my mare? My education? Or my mare? Oh, it's happening again sir!" Twilight falls on the floor, dazed.
Pinkiepie came in the house, "Ma!"
Then, Celestia came in the house, "MA!"
"Whatever this is," Luna said. "Do not put me in the middle of the two ponies I love equally, just kidding! Com'er Pinkie!"
"My teacher followed me home," Pinkiepie teased. "Can we keep him? Can we keep him? Please say no!"
"She walked out of my class," Celestia said, concerned. "She's trying to be Rainbowdash,"
"Why would you want to be Rainbowdash?" Luna asked Pinkiepie.
"Because she's cool," Pinkie answered. "She has a wild side! She does what she wants."
"But you're such a good pony!" Luna said, smiling.
"Who cares about that?" Pinkie asked. "Do you really think I'm one of those pony's who follows all of the rules and never gets in trouble?"
"I was hoping," Celestia said, shrugging.
"Do you think I'm well-raised?"
"Half!" Luna said, laughing.
"How important is it that you don't know me AT ALL?!!" Pinkiepie said, running away.
"Lets get married," Luna said, mimicking Celestia. "Lets have a kid, let's have another kid!
"Well, you listened to me, you big stupid." Celestia teased.
Pinkiepie and her little brother, Pound Cake are sitting in the special window.
"Am I the type of person that always plays it safe? Is this who I'm going to be for the rest of my life? Am I ever going to take a risk that changes my destiny?" Pinkiepie asked herself.
"Do bears know how to smile? Why is cake always so delicious? Will my drawings ever get any better?" Pound Cake asked himself.
"Are you making fun of me?" Pinkie asked.
"No, I think just like you because we're twins!" Pound Cake proudfully announced.
"We are not twins," Pinkie said, calmly-ish.
"MOOOM!!" Pound Cake called, leaving the room.
At lunch, Applejack is walking around, looking for a place to sit.
"Awe," Rainbowdash teased. "Look at him looking for a place to fit in."
"You think he'll sit with us?" Pinkie asked, shyly.
"Mares!" Twilight said, collapsing into the chair between Rainbow and Pinkie, not noticing Applejack was going to sit there.
"Interesting lunch line dilemma. Sloppy joe, or chicken pot pie? Sloppy joe, or chicken pot pie? Sloppy joe, or chicken pot pie?"
"Is that all you got?" Rainbowdash asked Twilight.
"That's it," Twilight said. "Same time tomorrow!"
And Twilight throwed his stuff away and left, not eating a single bit.
"There he is!" Rainbow said, pointing to him. "Invite him to sit down!"
"With words?"
"You're ready for this!"
"What do I say?"
"Hey, Applejack, looking for somepony special?"
"I can't say that!"
"Hey Applejack! Looking for somepony?"
"Too forward!"
"Hey, Applejack!"
"Like, we're on a first name basis?!"
"Hey."
"Hey," Pinkie repeated.
"Hay back!" Applejack said, plopping himself right beside Pinkiepie.
"Hi," Pinkiepie said. "You're sitting here,"
"Is that okay?" Applejack asked.
"Yup!" she answered. "Can you excuse me for just one sec?"
"How ya doin'?" Celestia said, walking into the lunchroom.
"Dad," Pinkiepie said, calmly. "You have a choice here. You can either understand that this is just a colt talking to me in the cafeteria."
"I'm gunna do whatever you say next," Celestia said.
"But this is so innocent!" Pinkiepie wailed.
"Honey," Celestia said. "Fathers don't see anything as innocent..we see it as, what's the opposite of innocent?"
"Right here!" Rainbowdash admitted, rasing her hoof high in the air.
"Please don't embarrass me," Pinkie said, frowning.
"I'm just gunna talk to Mr.Apple about geography. You know, I've been to a lot of places. Never been to Texas, though. What part of Texas is closet to Mexico?" Celestia asked Applejack.
"That'd be El Paso, sir." Applejack answered, kindly.
"Great! Let's go right now!" Celestia said, pulling Applejack away.
As Applejack is being pulled away, he waves to Pinkie, and she smiles at him.
Rainbowdash and Applejack throw their food away and start walking to class.
"So," Pinkiepie protested. "Did you do the homework?"
"No, I didn't do the homework," Rainbowdash said. "The question on everyponies kiwi lips is, did you do the homework?"
"No, I'm one of the founding members of the Homework Rebellion," Pinkiepie replied, nervously. "You think I did my homework?"
"I think you did mine, too." Rainbowdash said.
"I did, I did," Pinkiepie said, smiling. "And I really liked it!"
"Pinkie," Rainbowdash said, seriously. "Don't save me,"
"What?" Pinkiepie asked.
"Let me be," Rainbowdash answered, as Twilight walked by. "Oh, you got two desserts!"
"Angels food cake.." Pinkie said.
"And Devil's food cake," Rainbowdash rolled her eyes, "Let me guess who's who."
"Hey," Twilight said, evil-like. "Twilight's just hungry not everything's about you!"
Rainbowdash and Pinkiepie walked into class and took their seats.
"Hi, I'm glad you're back." Pinkiepie said, seeing Applejack as back.
"Hi, me too." He said, smiling.
"Hi," Celestia said, coming up to Lucas and Riley. "Apparently you have a better sense of direction then I anticipated. You're a really good looking guy," Then Celestia walked back up to the board to talk to the class, "Okay, so today, we're gunna find out if any pony here believes in something so strongly, they'd fight for it. Rainbowdash, present your homework."
"Can't do that sir,"
"Why not?"
"Didn't do my homework, sir,"
"Why not?"
"That's what I'm fighting against, sir," Rainbowdash answered proudly.
"I didn't do my homework, either," Pinkiepie announced.
"Oh, really?" Celestia asked.
"Yeah," Pinkiepie said. "We're the same now, I don't believe in homework,"
"Guess what, Pinkie?" Celestia said. "That doesn't make you the same as Rainbowdash at all!"
Rainbowdash raised her hoof, "I have something to say,"
"Wow," Celestia said, amazing. "I don't know what to do, I've never seen this before. The floors yours, Ms.Dash,"
"Get up, Twilight," Rainbowdash said, pulling Twilight to the front of the class. "You're gunna wanna be awake for this."
"Is it our honeymoon?" Twilight asked, standing up.
"No, you missed that." Rainbowdash said. "Now it's time to hand in our essays,"
"Oh, Twilight goes first!" Twilight said. "TWILIGHT ALWAYS GOES FIRST!!"
"Alright," Rainbowdash announced. "Everypony who did their homework, put it on your desk,"
Rainbowdash walked around collecting it.
"Careful there, Ms.Dash," Celestia warned.
"Are you sure about this?" Pinkie asked Rainbowdash.
"I got this!" Rainbowdash answered proudly.
"Okay.." Pinkie answered, softly.
"The branding of Atlanta led to the end of the Civil War, and of peace. I believe that peace is worth fighting for."
Rainbowdash took two sparklers off the project.
"Hey, that's a pivotal part of my diorama! And there goes Virginia." Twilight said, sadly.
"The burning of homework led to the end of the Homework Rebellion, because there was no more homework," Rainbowdash said, climbing on her chair, and about to burn the homework with the sparklers.
"Alright, alright, that's far enough Rainbow, I get it." Celestia said, taking the homework.
Then, all the class chanted, "NO HOMEWORK, MORE FREEDOM!!"
Until suddenly, the sparklers lit the homework and the fire alarms went off.
"Okay," Rainbowdash said. "So those work,"
Everypony fled the classroom. Except Pinkiepie, which Applejack was holding his jacket over there heads, and Rainbowdash, who was shocked, just standing there, on the desk.
"Why didn't you stop your friend?" Applejack asked Pinkiepie.
"That's not what I do anymore!" Pinkiepie replied.
"You're better than that!" Applejack said.
"I'm just letting her be her," Pinkiepie answered, sadly.
"Ms.Dash, you have detition," Celestia said, seriously. "The principal will determined if it goes any farther than that. Ms.Pie, please leave."
"I deserve detention too!" Pinkiepie wailed.
"No, you don't," Celestia said. "You didn't do anything. And because you didn't do anything, your best friend is in very big trouble!"
At the lockers,
"You're looking at us pretty hard there, Mr.Matthews," Rainbowdash informed him.
"I just want to stand by my girl," Pinkiepie said to her father.
"You missed the moment to stand by your girl. You were so busy trying to be her, that you forgot the best thing you can do for her is be you. Pinkiepie, take Twilight for a walk."
Pinkiepie and Twilight leave the hallway. And soon, Celestia and Rainbowdash are the only ones in the hallway.
"Listen," Celestia said. "For as long as I can remember, it's always been Pinkie and Dashie. Now, I always believed a friend helps another friend out of trouble, not into it."
"I'm sorry," Rainbowdash admitted softly.
"I am too, because you got too far," Celestia said. "Do you understand me?"
"I have no pony at home who helps me with my homework," she said softly, walking away.
Rainbowdash and Pinkiepie walked in the subway.
"Pinkie?" Rainbowdash asked.
"Yeah?"
"If we can't hang out with each other as much anymore, don't worry about it."
"Wait..why would..?"
"He's going to make you end our friendship,"
"He said that?"
"He's really upset with me,"
"He loves you," Pinkiepie said.
"I don't think so anymore," Rainbowdash explained, "I just want you to know that I get it wouldn't be your fault,"
Granny Smith interrupts, "Bee-you-ti-ful! You two little bumblebees got a sweet thing going, but where's your hunk?....You ain't got no hunk, you ain't got no story!"
"I haven't been your good friend," Rainbowdash admitted.
"You're my best friend!" Pinkiepie answered.
"I got too far, and I don't think it's gunna stop. I'm bad for you," Rainbowdash admitted, again.
"He said that?" Pinkie asked.
"He will," Rainbowdash said as the subway stops. "This is your stop. Don't be me, you don't go as far as me,"
"No, no!" Pinkiepie answered.
"No!" Granny Smith wailed. "Don't push her off this train! You do NOT push your best friend off the train!"
As the Subway doors closed, Pinkiepie pulled them open.
"I'm not you," she said.
"Ooh, she's back!" Granny Smith answered. "That little girl pushed those doors open with the power of love!"
"You're not allowed to abandon our friendship," Pinkiepie said. "I'd never do that,"
"Pinkie," Rainbowdash said. "I'm pushing you away because I'm not good for you anymore,"
"Only I decide that," Pinkiepie said. "You know why?"
"W-why?" Rainbowdash asked.
"Because if this is my world now, the first pony I want in it is you," Pinkiepie smiled.
"You're gunna save me," Rainbowdash said. "Aren't you?"
"I am!" Pinkie said, as she pulled Rainbow and herself out of the Subway.
"Where is he?" Pinkiepie asked.
Luna and Pound Came point at Celestia.
"There is no way I'll let you break up my friendship with Dashie!" Pinkiepie yelled.
"Is that what you think I want, Pinkie?" Celestia asked.
"No." Pinkiepie said. "What you said you really want is for me is to make the world my own. And you want me to do my homework. Well, I'm doing it right now. Here's what I think is worth fighting for. This is my best friend. She's gunna get me into trouble, and I'm gunna get us out of it, and I did, because here we are. Look at us, Dad. We're right here. My Civil War is over, Dad. I won. What happens now?"
Pinkiepie, Rainbowdash, Celestia, Luna, Applejack, Twilight, and Pound Cake are all in the subway.
"Friends, family," Celestia said. "And all you other subterranean mole people. We're here today to celebrate Pinkiepie being Pinkiepie. Now, some may call this a New York Subway pass. But you, Pinkie, consider this a ticket to the world."
"You think I'm ready?" Pinkiepie asked.
"You showed us who you are," Luna said, happily.
"Pinkiepie," Celestia smiled, "I've already met the world. It's your turn."
"So, where do you wanna go?" Rainbowdash asked.
"Don't know," Pinkie said. "Big world,"
"Ours now?" Rainbowdash asked.
"Yeah, but my dad did say I have to be home by five," Pinkiepie answered.
"Don't worry," Rainbowdash said. "He wrote you a note,"
"Next stop, Astor Place 14th Street, and the world," The Subway Annoucner said.
When Rainbowdash and Pinkiepie returned, they saw Celestia, Luna, and Pound Cake waiting for them.
"You guys came back and waited for us?" Pinkiepie asked, surprised.
"Hey," Luna said, comfortingly. "We told you we were always gunna be here for you."
"Yeah, Pinkiepie," Celestia said, smiling. "It's not so easy handing over the world without making sure everything's gunna be okay,"
Luna, Pound Cake, Pinkiepie, and Rainbowdash walk home, and Celestia turns around, seeing his old teacher, Mr.Macintosh smiling at him.
"Well done, Mr.Matthews," he said, as he soon disappeared.
Celestia followes behind his family, smiling warmly to himself.
