CH2. A Dream, A New Name, and A Draconequus?

Previous Chapter

I open my eyes and see the blurred face of my mother. With a sweat, soothing voice, she said, “how is my little man doing? You remember that no matter what mommy will always love you and protect you. When you get lost in this world and you find yourself in a point in your life you can’t figure out. You just come and find me. I will always be here to help,” she finished with tears forming in her eyes, “I’m sorry I have to leave you here but I can’t be with you now. I will always love you. See you later,” She cut off quickly as she started to run away.

As she was running her body started to shift and change. There was no distinct shape to it now. I was lost in words and could not call out to her before her body vanished into thin air.  I sat there unable to move, unable to comprehend what just happened. Many questions flooded my mind, but before I could ask them I was woken up with a jolt of pain, as something felt like it was exciting my mind.

As soon as I woke up I looked over and saw the changeling looking down at the floor and, wait is she crying? “Why are you crying?” I asked with a little worried tone.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause you pain as I left your mind, and I am also sorry I had you relive that painful memory again. Please don’t be upset. I won’t do it again. I just thought that I should figure out for myself if you were lying to me. Well I figured out you were not. And that you are far older than I thought would be possible,” she started to say.

Before she was able to continue, I got off my bed and hugged her. “It’s ok. I am a little upset that you went into my mind without permission, but you did let me see a memory that I have yet to see. I would have assumed that it would have been just a dream, not a memory. Had it not been for you. But the thing is I’m completely baffled on how you are crying. Changelings are not supposed to have no emotions, or did something change after Luna was sent to the moon that I am unaware of?” I asked.

This of course caused her to blush. “Well you see that is a long story. You would be right in that changelings are not supposed to have emotions, but rarely there are a few that are born with them. I happened to be born with them. When I was a kid I was raised like any other changeling, which was pretty boring. I blended in at first suppressing any feeling, thinking that because I was different that I would have been targeted for the others to feed on me, which later on I managed to find out that is the case when you hit a certain age. Well instead of staying and finding out what would happen I ran away. I never looked back. I do miss my old home, but it is dangerous for me there,” she finished with a with sigh of relief.

“So there is still hope for the changelings. That is good to hear, but for your punishment. You will accompany me on my journey. But there are rules you need to follow. Rule one, do not change into anyone else unless I give you permission first. Two, if you ever enter my mind again you will regret it. Lastly, just be yourself and have fun, I’m not the bad guy here,” I replied with a smirk. “well I wouldn’t mind the company. Help me out with my forest and help with getting supplies and I’ll let you stay here as long as you need to. Think you can manage that? “

“I don’t know why you would be giving me a chance like this, especially after what I have done to you, but I will try my best to make it right. By the way, the way you act seems to change often. From being serious to joking around, from angry to happy, might I ask why?” she asked.

“I change, at any time randomly, and without warning. I’ve been so many shapes and sizes, and I don’t even know who I am anymore. So why keep one emotion, why not let it change with me? The truth is, I don’t know how I’m suppose to feel. Most of the time I feel nothing. I’ve been numb to my emotions for the longest time now. It’s ironic really, you are supposed to have no emotion, but you have it, and mine is fleeting from me. But I digress, we need to go into that town a few hours away and get supplies. Come along now,” I said, as I started to walk towards the entrance to the cave.

I did mean what I said to her. Time is funny like that, one moment you are living happily secluded in the mountains, next you are being hunted down for being a freak of nature or as food. One moment you are on top of the world soaring as high as can be, and the next you have to stay below ground in fear of burning alive on the surface. Time is change. For every second that passes something is different, no two seconds match each other. As time has changed so have I.

The trip to the town started off quite. The animals seemed a bit rowdier. Some seem to be testing their limits a little, with getting closer and closer to us. I know why though. They’ve never seen a changeling before. I’m sure they are curious, but they should know better than to get closer, I mean I did give them their home, regardless of what state it is in right now.

“I’m usually fine by myself, as I’ve been alone for so long, but for some reason it feels nice to not be completely alone for once, regardless of the silence though,” I said, breaking the silence that has befallen us.

“I Know what you mean, though it is a bit awkward to not be alone,” she said, “I also thought about the whole name thing. Since I don’t have a name why, not you come up with one for me, then I’ll come up with one for you?”

“That is not that bad of an idea, but do we stick to pony names or more conventional?” I asked.

“Honestly, I would say stick with pony names for you because you are a pony after all and it might be confusing to others if you have a strange name, myself it would not matter. I am not a pony; therefore, I don’t need their weird names. So, what shall I be called then, Atramentous Eventide. I think it fits with your black coat. So what shall my name be?” she finished.

“That name has a nice ring to it, and I guess it fits. But I honestly can’t come up with a good name for you. All I can think of is Change. Which, if you think about it sounds stupid, especially when you are a changeling,” I finished.

“Actually I find that rather fitting, very well, I will be known as Change from here on out,” Change stated. “So, with that out of the way, how much longer until we get to that town?” she asked.

“Not that much further, should be another few minutes till we break the tree line,” I stated, “I should let you know that there is not much in this town and the mares were acting a bit strange last time I was here. They were giving me the weirdest looks, there was also a strange smell in the air. I just passed it up as that it was a bunch of ponies in a confined space, of course there is going to be an odor.”

“I got to ask did the smell make you act any different?” Change replied.

“Not that I could tell, no. But I wasn’t there in the town longer then I needed to be anyways,” I replied.

The rest of the trip was boring, about fifteen minutes and we finally broke out of the forest. It felt good to bask in the sunlight, without the cover of trees and vines. I stood there for a few minutes just relaxing and stretching out my legs, it has been awhile since I’ve walked that much in that short amount of time, so I felt like I was entitled to it. I looked over and Change didn’t mind it, she was eager enough to do the same.

After a good while I finally called it and said we should be going. One thing throughout this whole ordeal with Change, is that why did she not give a second thought on joining me to here, and not really going against anything that I’ve said so far. I should keep an eye on her just to be safe. Something is not right here.

“Well up ahead is the town called Ponyville. I say we just hurry up and get what we came for. Then be on our way.” I said.

“But what would be the fun in that, you must know that there is plenty of fun things to do around here, especially with a town full of mares,” a random voice said, with a weird sounding voice.

“And who might you be, and why would you suggest something like that?” I asked.

“Oh, I am sorry for not introducing myself,” the voice started to say as a stage just appeared out of no were, “I am Discord, ruler of chaos, recently reformed to use my powers for the greater good of Equestria. About your other question, because I can and it would make for an interesting show. You the big mysterious stallion walks into a town of mostly mares and dominates them all. Know that would be a story,” Discord said while staring at the sky winking. Discord then looks back at me and replies, “so I answered your questions know for you to answer mine. Firstly, why would a stallion such as yourself be with a changeling and secondly, who are you? You seem familiar, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.”

“HOW ARE YOU NOT IN STONE RIGHT NOW?!?” I yelled. “I saw it myself when you were turned to stone and how Chrysalis turned herself into a changeling, just to save her people from you…” I stopped myself as I realized that I gave more information about myself then I should of. I looked over to Change to see her face palm, or rather hoof palm, herself.

“I remember know, you where the one in the shadows, the one that watches. There is a legend that there is a being that has been around for so long that they have seen the world formed. A being who never had the same body twice, cursed to change forever. This being hid in the shadows and watches, never openly interacting with anything. But that is just a myth and legend, so tell me, who are you really, and how do you know of such history?” he asked with a stern voice, as he pressed his face against mine, staring into my eyes.

I took a step back and turned around before saying, “There was a time when I would have just said that I just heard it from some passing stranger, but I won’t. I was there. I saw it all. The destruction of the once proud dominant race on this planet, to their fall. To the rise of many more. I’ve seen this planet in its darkest days. Which, by the way, was not when you ruled. That was rather tame in comparison. If you want to say that I am not who I say I am, then that is up to you. If you don’t mind me and my companion are going to head into the town and get what we need,” I finished and started to walk around Discord, urging Change to follow.

It didn’t take long but Discord reappeared in front of me, saying “fine then I’ll show you around and show you my friends this way,” he finished with a snap of his fingers.

As soon as he snapped his fingers we all got teleported to the outside of a gingerbread looking house with a cupcake looking balcony on top.

“Well what are you waiting for head on in. I’m sure you’re in for a nice surprise,” Discord said while shoving us both though the door of the building.

Neither Change nor myself had time to react as the door was closed behind us. The room we were in was complete black. I was silent, unaware of what lurked in the shadows.

“Well that was sudden,” I told Change.

Before she was able to reply the lights where turned on, blinding us both.

“SURPRISE!” was shouted at the same times as the light was turned on.

I took a quick look around and noticed that there were decorations hung up everywhere and a big sign above everyone that said “Welcome to Pony Ville.”

I looked over to Change and said, “well this was unexpected.”
