Rainbow Dash Takes Twilight On a Date
“So what do I do?” Rainbow wailed to herself. The stress of setting up a first date was really getting to her. This wasn’t just her first date with Twilight, this was her first date ever. She would never admit it to anyone else, but she had never really tried to be in a successful relationship before. The last time she tried to find a special somepony the poor stallion had run away crying. Rainbow’s mood soured at the memory. It was his fault for shamelessly hitting on her. He had chased her around the whole night before she bucked him into a tree. Her train of thought was interrupted by a knock on her door.
“Rainbow Dash!” a familiar voice chirped. Her eyes widened.
“Nonononononono not now, not today, not ever! Go away Rarity.” Rainbow cried.
The white unicorn standing in a pink air balloon pouted. “That is an incredibly rude thing to say Rainbow Dash. I’m here to help. I even brought a dress and some tips for a romantic date!”
Reluctantly, Rainbow opened the door. “Hey Rarity… What do you want? I’m kinda busy preparing my date with Twilight.”
Rarity just sighed and rolled her eyes. “Rainbow, dear, you are a wonderful, wonderful young mare. You’re fast, loyal, beautiful, and strong….”
On any other day, Rainbow would have basked in the complements. Today, she sensed a “but” and she was right
“But, you are also stubborn, airheaded, arrogant, and not the least bit romantic.” Rarity finished.
“That was an excellent pep talk Rares. You should consider being a sports coach, but, surprisingly, that did not make me feel better. Not even a little.” Rainbow said barely holding in her annoyance.
“That is why I’m here to help you, darling! With a little bit of help, you’ll be every mare’s dreams! Now what were you thinking about doing with Twilight?”
Rainbow shrugged. “Well there is this one Starswirl the Bearded documentary Twi wanted to see. I thought we could watch that, then eat something at Sugarcube Corner, and read the new Daring Do book together at the library, later.”
Rarity stared at Dash in horror. “That is was the most unromantic date I have ever heard of! I got here just in time your date starts in a few hours! I have a much better idea…”
A few hours later….
“I’m pretty sure you used this date as an excuse to dress me up in the girliest dress in Equestria.” Rainbow sighed.
“That’s correct, dear Rainbow” Rarity hummed.
The cyan Pegasus groaned. “I really hope you have a better idea for the ‘date part’ of my one shot at a healthy romantic relationship…” she emphasized “healthy romantic relationship”
Rarity just responded with a soft clicking sound as she added the finishing touches on Rainbow’s dress.
“Rarity! I need your help. If my idea of a date is unromantic then you probably have a better idea. If you have a better idea then you have to tell me!!!” Rainbow cried.
Rarity brightened at Rainbow’s plea. “Well then…. The first step is to bring her a small gift. When you pick her up from the castle, give her light kiss on the hoof and hand her a single rose. It’s the most romantic gesture!” The unicorn could hardly keep the squeal from escaping her mouth.
Rainbow cringed. She was going to screw this up so bad…..
Rarity continued, “Then take her to a fancy restaurant and have a table for two set up in a private corner, maybe some classical music playing in the background. I know a mare named Octavia who is quite well known throughout Canterlot. Make sure to order some wine. It has to be white wine. ”
Rainbow was furiously writing everything down on a small notepad. She flipped the page and looked surprised. “Is this Twilight’s? Huh….”
“And make sure to pull up a chair for her. Of course, you pay for everything. You order for her and make sure it is something she likes. Nothing too heavy. The small fork is for the appetizer and the big one is for the meal. The first bite is hers, so don’t start eating until she does.” Rarity listed.
Rainbow was sweating and her pencil was about to catch on fire as she struggled to write everything down. “Uhh Rarity? Could you wrap this up?”
Rarity looked up, startled. “What? Ah yes, of course. That is not all you need to know but it will suffice.”
Rainbow looked relieved and wiped some sweat off her forehead. Rarity looked concerned.
“Your makeup! It’s ruined!!!” Rarity shrieked.
Rainbow sighed and stuffed her face in her hooves. “How is this my life?”
A few more hours later….
“Aaaannnddd…. Done!” the dressmaker said. Her makeover was finished. Rainbow looked dazzling. Her mane was soft and shiny, tied back into a slightly messy bun. She was wearing a short turquoise dress that showed a fair amount of fur. The dress glittered, hugging her waist and showed off her cutie mark. She wore pink lipstick and light green eye shadow with black eyeliner that made her dark pink eyes pop.
“You look smashing!” Rarity smiled.
Rainbow reluctantly turned to the mirror. “Oh. MY. GOD. I look awesome!” she coughed. “I mean I look cool, not bad Rares…”
Rarity smirked. “Now get out there, darling! I’m quite sure that, soon enough, I’ll be designing a fabulous wedding dress.”
Rainbow groaned. “I don’t think I’ll be able to sit through another makeover.”
Rarity just pushed her out of the shop. “Go! Or you’ll be late.”
Rainbow sighed and flew out. Rarity chewed on her hoof nervously. “I really hope you don’t screw this up.”
As Rainbow arrived at the front door of the crystal castle and raised her hoof to knock, Twilight opened the door. “Oh hey Rainbow! I thought I was going to your house. Gotta practice my flying you know.”
Rainbow scratched the back of her neck nervously. “Oh yeah… I just thought I’d pick you up first so I could give you this.” She presented a purple rose to the mare.
“Why, thank you! It’s lovely. By the way, you look beautiful.” Twilight said warmly.
If anypony else had said that Dash would NOT have blushed, but, unfortunately, Twilight had said it. She could feel the heat rushing to her cheeks. She had to focus she could not succumb to her date’s adorableness. Rainbow took Twilight’s hoof and kissed it softly, this time, causing Twilight to blush. “Let’s get going.” Twi said attempting to hide her red cheeks.
“I thought we could go to that Prench restaurant at the edge of Ponyville.” Rainbow said casually.
Twilight raised her eyebrow. “Oh? I thought it was really expensive.”
Dash grinned. “It is. I got us a private spot so we could have some alone time.” She winked.
Twilight gave a small smile, trying to hide her disappointment. “Great! Let’s go.”
The two mares stepped into the restaurant. It was formal with light classical music and lanterns hanging from the ceiling. “Ooooh nice.” The alicorn commented.
A white earth pony waiter arrived and led them to the private booth. It was dark other than the candles that provided a little light. Twilight sniffed. “Is that incense?”
“Shall I start you ladies off with a little wine?” the waiter asked in a Canterlot accent, presenting the bottle. “Or would you prefer champagne?”
Twilight opened her mouth to speak, but Rainbow Dash cut her off. “No we’re good with the wine.”
Rainbow grabbed the wine and poured some into the wine glass next to her date. In the process, she spilled the wine into her lap. “Augh! Rainbow!” she cried.
The Pegasus stared at her lap in horror. “OhmygoshTwilighti’msosorrypleasedonthateme!!!” she rushed to get some napkins to clean up the mess but tripped on the table cloth and fell. The cloth shifted sending the wine glass and candles flying to the floor. The table cloth immediately caught on fire. The two ponies looked at the fire, shocked.
Rainbow was panicking. She quickly grabbed the wine bottle and doused the fire. The ordeal left her dress burnt and a little torn. “Rarity is going to kill me, if Twi doesn’t kill me first.” she muttered. Grudgingly, Dash spun around to find Twilight fixing the table.
Twilight finished cleaning everything up and turned around to face the cyan mare. “Look Twilight I know I messed up really bad.”
“Rainbow”
“I got all dressed up and fixed my mane and put on a dress. I am so bad at this mushy stuff.”
“Rainbow”
“I knew I was going to screw it up but I still tried to be romantic, because Rarity said you have to—”
“Rainbow”
“be romantic or else the relationship will fail because my original idea sucked. I was soooo nervous the whole time that I didn’t even realize that you probably hate me now and—”
“For Celestia’s sake, RAINBOW DASH!!”
Rainbow stopped ranting and looked at the angry purple princess. “Yeah Twi?”
“You completely messed up on this date in less than 5 minutes. Your effort at being romantic was forced and boring. In a word, this was the worst date in Equestrian history.” Twilight said calmly
Rainbow’s eyes watered and she bowed her head. “I know” her voice was muffled.
Twilight took her date’s chin and lifted it up. “You didn’t let me finish. The date was bad because you tried too hard. I wanted a more laid back date where we can be each other without being scared of messing up. The date had an 80% chance of failure. ‘Romantic’ and Rainbow Dash just aren’t compatible.”
The other mare looked up. “So you don’t hate me?”
Twilight giggled. “Of course not silly filly. I love you.” She got closer and kissed Dash.
Rainbow quickly pulled away. “Wait. Don’t you think we’re going a little fast?” Twilight shook her head. “Well in that case…” Rainbow leaned in to continue the kiss.
It was sweet kiss filled with warmth and a hint of wine. It was their first kiss that the two mares savored (since it wasn’t alcohol fuelled).
“Ahem” the waiter cut off the kiss. “If you don’t mind, I’d love to take your order, ladies.”
Rainbow and Twilight shared a look. “Sorry monsieur, but we aren’t staying. Au revoir!” Twi called as she pulled her new marefriend out of the restaurant.
“Honestly, I don’t feel like walking Twilight.” Rainbow said. “And the castle is soooooo far away!”
“Well, the night is still young! We could always go to ‘Le—”
Rainbow gasped and stuffed her hoof in Twilight’s mouth. “Don’t say it egghead” she whispered.
Twilight smirked. “I was just pulling your tail. Where do you want go?”
Rainbow thought for a moment. “You know my original plan for this date was something completely different. How do you feel about Star Swirled the Bearded and educational documentaries?”
Twilight releases an ear-splitting squeal. “I’ve been looking for the tickets forever! Where in the world did you find some?”
Rainbow smiled mischievously. “I have my ways. Since I’m giving you this, you have to give me something in return.”
Twilight looked confused. “What?”
“Something….” Rainbow gave Twilight a sultry look, telling her everything she needed to know.
