The Beginning

From the ashes of The Ruin, the Communities were built. Protected by the boundary. All memories of the past were erased.

After The Ruin, we started over. Creating a new society. One of true, a quality. Rules were the building blocks of that quality. We learned them as newchildren; rules like: Use Precise Language, Wear Your Assigned Clothing, Take Your Morning Medication, Obey The Cerfuw, Never Lie.

My name is Twilight. I don't have a last name, none of us did. That day, the day before graduation, I admitted, I was scared. Tomorrow we'd be assigned our jobs; our purpose. It seemed everypony knew there's already. But not me, I was lost. I always felt like I saw things..differently. (They see things black and white, so you can't judge anyone. But Twilight saw colors sometimes) Saw things other ponies didn't. I never said anything, I didn't wanna be different. Who would?

"Twilight!" Rainbowdash called, as Pinkie and him rode their bikes to catch up with Twilight.

"I apologize we're late, I got Rainbowdash to say goodbye to teacher," Pinkiepie smiled.

"I accept your apology," Twilight responded happily.

***

Rainbow and Pinkie, we'd been friends our whole lifes. Rainbowdash was the colt her made everypony laugh. Pinkiepie, well, she was the mare who made everypony smile.

***

"Whoevers listening," Rainbowdash yelled. "Please, PLEASE do not make me Vice-Chef or Voice Managment! PLEASE!!"

Twilight and Pinkiepie laughed along.

We lived in a world where differences weren't allowed; there was no popular, no fame, no losers, and no winners. Are elders had eliminated all of that so they're'd be now conflict between us. Fear, pain, envy, hate, there weren't words so much as sounds. Their echoes were gone to the other side of history! I'm asked if I should apologize for what I did, I'll let you decide!

***

"I'm going to miss volunteering here," Pinkiepie said. (She would always volunteer at the Nurturing Center)

"Oh, no, if ever there's a person bored to work at the Nurturing Center," Rainbowdash laughed.

"I could be a surprise, right?" Pinkiepie asked. "Twilight, if you had to guess of all the Elders picked for me,"

"Nurturing Center." Twilight said, smiling.

Pinkiepie smiled at him, her eyelashes fluttered and her hair blew in the wind. But nopony felt love; if they took their morning injection, they were exsicuted from feelings, pain, and love. They also, could only touch their "family unit." A family unit is like a family, except you're not with your true parents. Your mother gives birth to you, and then you're a newchild; sent off to your family unit. Each family unit has one mare, colt, boy filly, and girl filly.

Twilight's sister, Sweeitbelle was 9, and Twilight was 11, about to reach 12. So was Pinkiepie and Rainbowdash.

"Welcome," said a voice on a speaker. "To the Nurturing Center."

The friends walked in, to see two little fillies; twins. They had to weigh them on a scale, and see which one weighed less; that one they'd release into Elsewhere.

"Think heavy, think heavy!" Twilight cooed to the young filly, watching the numbers on the scale rise.

"Com'on, com'on!" Pinkiepie cheered to the foal.

Suddenly, the numbers on the scale's stopped.

To Twilight's surprise, Pinkie had won with her foal. Twilight's filly was 11.8, but Pinkiepie's was 11.9.

"We win! Who's my cubby champion?!" Pinkie murmured to the foal, holding him tightly in her grip. She rubbed her muzzle against his, making a faint giggle.

"Which one was heavier?" Twilight's Father asked.

"Mine," Pinkiepie replied.

"Father," Twilight teased, "I think Pinkie put her hoof on the scale,"

"Did not," Pinkiepie laughed. Her smile was faint, and her eyes were grey, just like everypony else's were here. Either grey or black. That's just how they saw.

Abruptly, everypony heard a small cry come from a tube. They kept little foals and fillies in tubes, but they had holes so they could breath. Also it was see-through, so the little ones wouldn't think they were all alone.

"He lookes so unhappy," Twilight said alarmingly, walking to the foal.

Father, Pinkiepie, and Rainbowdash followed him, their eyes caught on the baby.

"This little foal didn't qualify to be shown to a family unit," Father softly said to Twilight.

Twilight stroked his hoof on the glass of the tube, wanting to open one of the little holes and rub the foals head.

"It's okay, Twilight," Father replied, knowing his thoughts. "You can open it."

Twilight quietly opened it, and rubbed his hoof on the little baby's head.

"Here, let me," Pinkie suggested, holding the foals little hoof.

"Some ponies have it," Rainbowdash laughed.

"Well, that's just not fair!" Twilight smiled.

Twilight looked over at Pinkiepie, suddenly seeing a faint color in her hair. It was pink, and it looked so soft. He stared at it; it was a color! Like he'd seen before sometimes.

"Are..you okay?" Pinkiepie asked concerningily.

"Yeah!" Twilight studdered. "Ye-yeah! Sure!"

"I know he was Sweetiebelle's teacher, but what was I supposed to do?" Mother sadly informed.

In the afternoons at dinner time, everypony had to eat and share their feelings.

"I feel..disspointed," Mother said.

"What was the Elsers decision?" Father alarmingly responded. His eyes were like darts on mother, he knew the Elders were always right, he thought maybe Mother had taken things into her own hooves.

"Release to Elsewhere," Mother softly replied.

"Can I be released to Elsewhere, Mother? Just for one day?!" Sweetiebelle pleaded. Her eyelashes fluttered constantly.

"No, you're too young Sweetie-Weeite," Father denied.

Sweeitbelle flopped down.

"You're turn for feelings, Twilight,"

"I guess I'm sort of..terrified," Twilight nervously replied.

"Pricision of language!" Mother corrected harshly.

"I mean..anxious," Twilight startledily answered.

"The Elders are never wrong," Mother said.

"You'll find your place," Father reasured him, his voice was sweet like red velvet.

The three rode their bikes directly to the ceremony. They presented the elders, getting released to elsewhere. They also did the newborns, 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s, 11s, and lastly, it was time for the 12s. As this went on, a strange elder peered over his chair to look at Twilight. Twilight stared at him, confused, but the last eleven was called; so Twilight looked back at the Chief Edler.

"Number one," Celestia, the Cheif Elder called, "Fluttershy! Birthmother,"

Minutes passed..

"Number fifty one, Rainbowdash!"

He stumbled across the stage, and looked down at the crowd. He saw everyone nodding at him and smiling.

"Rainbowdash," Celestia smiled, "Drone Pilot! Thank you for your childhood,"

"You can keep it!" Rainbowdash replied, amazed.

All of the 12s laughed.

"Number fifty three, Applejack," Celestia called, smiling down at Applejack. Applejack walked across the stage and smiled back.

She skipped me, Twilight thought. He stood and his position, but the crowd noticed how uncomfortable he was, and also, got restless in their seats.

"They skipped Twilight," Sweetiebelle whispered to Father.

"Number one hundred four, Pinkiepie."

Pinkiepie glanced at Twilight and walked across the stage smiling.

"Pinkiepie, Nurturer," Celestia proudly announced. "Thank you for your childhood."

Twilight had been right, Nurturer was the perfect job for her. But he was two busy thinking that there was no place for him, that he couldn't even look at Fiona.

After everypony was done, only Twilight was left on the stage. He stood silently and his eyes told everypony he was incredibly nervous.

"You feel I've made a mistake?" Celestia said, "I apologize to my community,"

"We accept your apology," The crowd answered.

"Number fifty two, Twilight. Twilight has not been chosen, he's been selected. We were not hasty this time, and could not afford a new loss. Twilight has all four attributes: Intelligence," As this continued, Twilight stood frozen. He was scared. "And one I can say but not explain, the power to see beyond. Twilight, our new Reciever of Memory!"

The crowd started off very softly saying, "Twilight, Twilight," Then it grew into a fastly loud cheer, "Twilight, TWILIGHT!!"

And the Cermony ended.
