The Unknown Alicorn

When Luna had appeared before Celestia exhausted and in the middle of the remains of Nightmare Moon,the sun princess was overjoyed. After a thousand years,she finally had her sister back. Luna's return was celebrated in both Canterlot and Ponyville. Everyone was excited. And though Luna did little to express it,she enjoyed the attention. After all,she was finally being noticed.

All was well! Luna had her place in Canterlot,she had taken on her duties of raising the moon,and on the first night of her return,she had been delighted to see her subjects out and watching the moon-rise. Truly,she had been thrilled. Things calmed down after the celebration,the Crystal Empire had been saved,Discord had been reformed,Twilight became a princess,Tirek was beaten and returned to Tartarus,Twilight got her own castle,and Luna had beaten the Tantabus. But,despite all of this,Luna was alone.

Yes,she had Twilight and her friends,and of course she had her sister,but while all of this was well and good,Luna began to desire true companionship.

''Sister,would you care to see the moon rise before you retire to bed?''

The request was simple enough,and Celestia looked at her sister with a smile. ''I'm sure I can spare a moment or two.''

Luna's heart beat quickly with excitement in her chest,and they made their way to the castle's highest balcony. Celestia sat patiently and watched as her sister's horn began to glow a light shade of blue,and the moon began to rise slowly and gently in the sky.

Celestia had not been present for the moon-rise in too long,and she knew it. She was still practically kicking herself for not being around to see the beautiful array of colors that appeared when day transitioned to night.

''It's lovely,Luna,''she commented softly when the moon princess had finished.

''Yes. Quite.'' The Lunar princess sat down beside her sister to admire the night sky littered with stars,her moon glowing the most and casting a lovely if eerie collection of shadows on the Everfree Forest.

A few minutes crawled by,and Celestia regretfully stood up. The  night really was a sight to see. It was calmer and cooler than the day,and instilled a feeling of relaxation...or was that sleep? Celestia wondered as she yawned.

''I must be off to bed,sister. Goodnight.''

Luna nodded and kept her eyes on the night. She smiled as she heard numerous giggles and plenty of chatter and discussion of stars and constellations. It was lovely music to her ears to have her subjects talk about the night. Especially the constellations. Luna had forged each constellation herself. In the past,when they were first created,Luna's hard work had gone unnoticed. Accept on paper,of course. But this new change of the ponies appreciating and even studying the night made a certain sense of pride in her work swell.

The constellations had not been easy to create. In the early days,Luna could only get two or three out a night. Four,if she was lucky. And at first,all of that work hadn't seemed worth it. But now,she could see that the constellations of the night sky had been some of her best creations.
