Bittersweet Romance
#1: Will this work out?
Previous ChapterWhile Sparkjump had a thing for arriving early, there were a few students already at CHS, some just minding their own business, others talking to each other and some grouped up doing activities and hanging out. He was happy at the sight of how everyone was seemingly more friendly. In fact, he got to wave at some of the students, which all waved back at him.
"Okay, I think this is way more manageable than Crystal Prep. But let's not jump into conclusions... aún no." He hung around the front entrance, until he decided to finally enter the school. He was told a few days before he was going to get a tour from one of the students in the school. "Not much time left... guess I might as well take the tour now."
As he entered the school, he saw how open the main foyer was. Never in his life had he seen a space so big, not even as big as the one back in Crystal Prep from what he remembered. There was a display case which showed some medals and trophies that caught his attention. He approached and looked at it, and there were a bunch of consolation medals for their never ending loss streak at the Friendship Games. He remembered then that the event had some real heat between the two schools, which he couldn't yet understand to this day.
"Maybe their luck at the Games will change... who knows..." He thought before his attention was taken away from the display.
"Hi." Sparkjump turned around to see a girl slightly taller than him who had light amber skin, red and yellow curly hair and cyan eyes. "I believe you're the new student in here. My name is Sunset Shimmer, I will show you around school. So follow me."
"Alright then."
Sparkjump followed Sunset around the school for the tour, quickly remembering where most of the classrooms he was told about were at. "So, tell me a little about yourself. I never caught your name."
"Oh, sorry about that. It's Sparkjump Volt, but you can just call me Spark." He smiled at her. From the looks of everything at this place, he thought everyone was very friendly. "Man, I didn't think everyone would really be friendly here, it's just that... in my last school, everyone there was hostile and arrogant. Didn't exactly make that many friends. I guess I'm just not a people person." He lowered his tone after saying the last words, which made Sunset frown.
"Aw, wow. I know how it feels. But, don't worry, you'll love it here at CHS, we'll treat you as a part of us no matter who you are." This immediately made Sparkjump happy again as he smiled and looked up.
"Ah, just what I needed to hear. Thanks for that. It might not sound like a supportive line to anybody, but it's quite helpful to me. It lets me know how things can probably be in the future, y'know."
"Don't worry, you'll feel at home in nearly no time." She also noticed his accent, so she couldn't help but ask, "So, are you from somewhere outside the country? Your accent sounds more different than ours... if that doesn't make you feel offended..." She gave a sheepish smile after saying the last words, but Sparkjump simply sniggered.
"Don't worry, there's no offense. I come from Spain. So, well, I should be heading to class now."
"Uhm... but classes start in half an hour." Sparkjump immediately checked his watch and slightly blushed from embarrassment.
"Oh... right... I guess I felt a bit rushed." he said, scratching the back of his head. "So I guess that we can hang around until classes ACTUALLY start." He noticed that Sunset immediately put her attention to someone who entered the building. It was a guy with pale tan skin, blue eyes, and white hair. Then he noticed the two approaching him.
"So, Soul, this is the new kid in school, Sparkjump Volt."
"Just call me Spark, or Volt."
"Hey, I'm Soul Writer, but you can just call me Soul." Spark nodded and fist bumped Soul.
"Alright, well... look I need... to go. Just need a bit of time to think about a few things by myself." Spark said with his tone lowering as the sentence finished, leaving the two behind as he began to wonder what made him get in such a mood so quickly.
Soul approached Spark as he looked up to the ceiling and occasionally to the floor. "Hey, anything wrong...? I can help you." Spark slowly shook his head while keeping a stern expression.
"It's nothing, my friend. It's just thinking about a few things of the past... nothing really, harmful, mate." Spark said. "Don't worry about me, I'll speak to you later in class." Spark explained.
"Alright, cool man. If you need anything Sunset and I can help you." Spark nodded in response.
"Yeah, thanks... so, I guess I'll see you around." He said and continued wandering around silently through the school, waiting for the bell to ring.
As he walked around he remembered his friends back in Crystal Prep, while they weren't much there were only two names out of six that he remembered.
"Eclipse..." He sniggered. "Now I don't know where you are, buddy. But I wish you the best in your future endeavours..." He paused briefly. "And Sour Sweet... man, she was the most beautiful girl in Crystal... but I believe she'd have rejected me right away..." he kept walking until he was blinded and scared by pure pinkness.
"JEESUS" Spark fell down to the floor from the scare... breathing heavily and having a blank stare, just a few moments before turning to see a girl with pink puffy hair, pink skin and blue eyes.
"HEY THERE!" The girl said before noticing Sparkjump on the ground. "Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
Spark returned to his senses and glared at the girl. "Maybe because you scared me like one!" He got up and brushed any dust off his suit. "Well, let's forget about that... who are you?"
"My name is Pinkie Pie, and well... I don't recall seeing you around here... you must be the new student, right?"
"Yes... I am... is there anything you need?" He asked.
“Oh, I just wanted to say hi to the new student!" Pinkie said with a big smile on her face.
"Oh... well... hello." He said with a bit of dullness in his voice.
"Sorry! It's just that when a new student comes here I just get suuuper excited!" Spark remembered how stuff was back in Crystal Prep, and he showed a small smile. "But, well, if you don't want to be bothered right now, sorry for that..." she said with a sheepish smile. Spark shook his head.
"No, no, it's okay, I actually like it better that way... things... didn't turn out so well back in my old school. So, all kinds of hospitality is very accepted." He smiled.
"Great! I'll see you later!" She told him as she seemingly disappeared into nowhere. He noticed the school bell ring as classes started.
"Alright, show time, you need to make a good impression on the new students, Spark." He said to himself before checking his schedule, seeing that his first class was literature. "Ugh... well, it's nothing... I hope..." he said before going to his class.
As he entered the classroom, he noticed Soul was there, who also noticed Spark coming in. "Oh, hey, man, you got literature?" Soul asked, making sure he was coming to the right classroom. He nodded with a look of slight disgust on his face. "Well, come on in." He entered the classroom and sat down beside Soul. "So... Spark, tell me what made you come here." Sparkjump sighed dejectedly before speaking.
"Well... look, I kind of don't like talking about that, so I'll just say a few words: The school was every person for themselves." Soul thought about what he heard for a moment.
"Oh damn, that must've been bad, but well, if you don't want to talk about it, fine with me." This made Spark smile. But then both noticed the teacher coming in. "Talk to you later." As the teacher sat down her desk, she started to speak up.
"Alright, students..." Spark felt a nudge and turned to Soul.
"What?"
"You're gonna introduce yourself, already happened to me."
"No, please... I hope not..."
"My name is Ms. Roseluck as you may know already, but since we have another new student here, come up to the front and tell us a little about yourself." Spark just sighed as he stood up.
"Told you." Soul whispered to him.
"Damnit. You surely summoned Murphy's Law upon me." Spark retorted as he walked up to the blackboard. As he finally reached the board, he turned to the class and spoke. "Alright, my name is Sparkjump Volt, I come from Spain. I will study medicine, perhaps something else. I also am a big fan of gaming and have my own YouTube channel with a hundred thousand subscribers. That's... all I have to give out."
"Ah, medicine, they say it's pretty difficult, anyways, thank you, Sparkjump. You can take a seat now." He walked to his seat and sat down.
It was now lunch break and he went to the cafeteria while carrying a laptop, he seemed to be one of the first students in there judging by the fact that the room was nearly deserted apart from a few students in other tables, he sat at an empty table in one of the corners of the cafeteria, and thought about what happened in his early years of life.
"Ah, Graphite... I remember when we were younger, all our adventures together as brothers during my 6 years of life before... your departure." After the last words Spark hung his head in sadness. "But I suppose you must be in a better place now... I hope this country isn't a graveyard for both of us." He noticed a familiar person sat down with him.
"Hey, man. You don't seem too happy." Soul said.
"Don't worry, everything is fine, just remembering the past, which brings up some mixed memories." Spark assured. "But, it doesn't matter anymore..." He sniggered while having a smirk on his face.
"Huh? What's so funny?" Spark nodded above his head, and to Soul's dismay, there was some tarantula on his head, which instantly latched on to his face when he looked up at it.
"AARGH! GET IT OFF! GET IT OOOOFFF!" Soul screamed in agony while flailing around, trying to get the animal off his face. Spark covered his mouth while doing his best attempt at not laughing. After a while Spark decided to assist Soul and got the spider-thing off his face.
"Thanks, man. I swore I saw my life flash before my eyes." Spark just shook his head and chuckled.
"Yeah, yeah... I've got your back bro." He helped Soul up, just for him to notice the considerable height difference. "Oh well... I'm going to be the smallest person here, aren't I?" he jokingly said.
"Oh don't worry, I doubt anyone will mock you for that." Soul assured Spark. "So, Spark, I suppose you don't mind me introducing you to my friends?"
"Not at all, might as well take the chance to make new friends." Spark said, then they both heard a person with white skin colour, black spiky hair, and blue eyes calling Soul out.
"Hey, Soul, you comin' ?!" Soul nodded and stood up, beckoning for Spark to follow him. Both went up to the table that the guy was at, which seemed to be crowded as well. Soul sat down with the group and introduced Sparkjump to everyone.
"Alright guys, this is Sparkjump Volt, he's the new student here." Soul said, while Spark waved at everyone.
"Hello everyone." Spark said, still standing up.
"HEY, MY NAME'S TREBLE MIX AND-"
"NO, TREBLE, WE'RE NOT GOING THROUGH IT AGAIN." A guy with pale green skin, red eyes and brown hair stopped the person known as Treble, wbho was the one that called Soul earlier.
"Man, you never let me have my fun, Warhawk, and neither do you author!." Treble said while looking at the ceiling. Spark just chuckled slightly. Sorry Trebs, it's too funny.
"No, it's just that we don't want to scare the new guy off... like every time." Warhawk said.
"It's alright, guys... I don't mind." Spark said. "It's quite funny, if you ask me." He continued.
"Great, so Sparkjump... uhh 2 things, now let me introduce you to the rest of the gang. Now these are Clyde, Swift, Night, Zero, Straight Edge a.k.a. Punk, Rivet, Daemon, Artemis, Mise, Fang, Atlas, Alex, Gaige, and-"
"Sparkjump?" Spark turned away to see someone with tan skin, emerald green eyes and black hair with a blue streak on it approaching him.
"Eclipse? Oh hell yeah." The two seemed to do some sort of of special handshake, they briefly fist bumped, crossed their arms, Sparkjump then mimicked as if he threw something in the air.
"Pegale, pegale!" He said as Eclipse did a swinging motion, clearly mimicking baseball, the two then stared off into the distance towards the direction Eclipse "swung".
"OOOOH!" The two went crazy, as if Eclipse hit a home run, they fist bumped again and ended with a bro hug.
"Oh my god, it's great seeing you again, shiiit so how's the family?" Sparkjump asked Eclipse.
"They're great, thanks for asking, also, everything is running better than in Crystal Prep here, man. So, how's things with Sour Sweet, huh?" Eclipse retorted, clearly bringing back the good atmosphere between the two, Spark immediately jerked back quickly as if he had been blown away by the response, clearly blushing a bit.
"Coño, tio. You're going with that again?" Spark said.
"Hey, it's good to see you again, so the only thing we can do is bring back the best things from the past." Sparkjump only nodded in response. They were then interrupted when Soul spoke up.
"Wait, you know each other?" He asked both of them.
"You bet man, after all, that's how Solar and Skeletons coordinated and wrote them both." Treble said, Spark just chuckled a bit.
"I don't know why, but I like this guy already." Spark said. "Moving on, Soul, you said you had a second thing to say."
"Oh right. Uhhh, there's a story you might need to hear..." Soul signaled a boy Spark was introduced to as Swift.
"Look if it's about the whole she-demon thing blowing up the school and zombifying every person here and then the singing girls also going full mind control, you don't need to worry... I already know that." He explained, surprising everyone but Eclipse.
"How?" Soul asked.
"Well it's easy, the first thing was really big news back home in Spain. The only footage I saw was from cellphones, of course, then the sirens thing was also big news in Crystal Prep, the students also said they were thankful to not be in the risk of dying..." He only snickered slightly after that... "... you should've seen their faces when we were back from the Games, scared shitless. I liked the whole crazy event, then again I do like everything that is wild. Even if it scares me a bit."
"So why did you leave Spain and come here?" The person he was introduced to as Clyde asked him.
"Well, the school I was studying at came to a close, and I couldn't find anything better in the country... so I found CPA, and then got expelled." He paused for a moment before looking at everyone. "Wait I remember you all, you were at the Games, weren't you?" he earned a nod from everyone at the table.
"Aaand how do you know that?" Soul asked him.
"Because I was there, how else? I was at Crystal Meth- err... Prep at the time and sadly didn't even get a chance to show my worth. Like shiiet, I was told by the Principal herself - crazy ass bitch for pressuring that other student and causing the ruckus in the FGs - that even if I was a top student, I wouldn't be chosen because of my "small and fragile" looks." Spark said. "That AND I wasn't good enough over one of the students that did participate, I was close. But not good enough, goddamnit."
"Wait, you come from Crystal Prep, AND you actually aren't full of yourself? Now that's something you never hear." Treble joked.
"Hey mate, unlike most of the folks back there, you will easily stay sane and selfless if you have a sense of what is right and what is wrong, thanks for that, Eco."
"Hey, it's nothing." Eclipse said.
"Anyways, small? I sure as fuck am that. But fragile is another story, I once took 3 shots to the head from a baseball bat, no scratches were found, or traumas... or just anything bad." Spark proudly said.
"No you didn't, literally the first one was enough to take you out, and you actually got a black eye for a week, which I remember you complaining how you couldn't see for a week." Eclipse said. Everyone laughed while Sparkjump glared at Eclipse.
Le flashback...
"Umm, are you sure you're still doing this?" Eclipse asked Sparkjump, he was kneeling in front of Sugarcoat with open arms, who was holding a wooden baseball bat.
"Yeah, you already seem dumb enough without even being hit to try this." Sugarcoat deadpanned.
"I don't care, I'll still do it!" Spark said.
"Oh no, this could hurt him badly! Then again why would I care if he's idiotic enough to do this?" Sour Sweet said.
"Alright then, Here comes... you're in for the blame for the stupid idea if I get in trouble." Sugarcoat prepared the bat.
"Yeah no, the Principal wouldn't even give a shit if I die, so you'd easily come out innocent. Mainly because it was my idea." Spark said. Suddenly, he was hit and immediately knocked out. His friends rushed to see how he was. Eclipse broke the silence.
"He's going to be okay, probably an injury wherever Sugarcoat hit him, but apart from that, nothing really terrible." He said, not worried.
"I sure hope so... are all spanish people even like this?" Lemon Zest said.
End of Le Flashback...
"Okay sure, still though, I had no idea Sugarcoat was that strong, dude. Goddamn, 20 ton truck hitting my face." Spark said in defense as the group laughed once again. "It's true! As a matter of fact, I bet an actual truck wouldn't even hurt as much as that! He exaggerated. "I've been hit in a lot of places many times, and I am willing to say that was the worst. but I still am not fragile. I can sure as hell take a few - baseball bat swings done by Sugarcoat don't count - hits before I actually get taken out. But you know how it is.... "Oooh, you're the little guy, I bet you're so weak!" Yeah... let's see how weak I can be before I SNAP THOSE PEOPLES' SPINES IN HALF!" He snapped, scaring everyone at the table but Eclipse.
"Oh yeah... his little swings are something you should be made aware of." Eclipse said. Sparkjump shook his head and returned to his senses.
"I'm sorry... I tend to be swingy at times.... just don't try anything funny... or all hell could break loose..." He said keeping a now calm demeanour, Treble had an evil grin on his face.
"So, whatcha say guys.... what did you think of The Force Awakens? I thought it was pretty great." Soul said.
"IT WAS AMAZING WITH ALL THE [Tie Fighter Sound Goes Here] AND THE [TRAITOR goes here] AND THEN THE [blaster sounds go here]. IT JUST NEEDED A [Inception Stinger goes here] AND IT COULD'VE BEEN THE BEST MOVIE EVER!" Treble screamed.
Warhawk facepalmed for a minute, letting Treble calm down before finally speaking. "It was really great, I enjoyed the characters, especially Finn, he was amazing. "
"Okay, how about you Sparkjump? That is if Star Wars does interest you..." Soul asked him.
"It was an utter disappointment to me, I mean.... there were some moments that were nice at best but could've been better and... [insert rant about spoilers and shiz that can't be said because goddamnit it's spoilers.] Plus, not to say it was Abrams... I swear I'm not going to see another Star Wars movie again if Abrams is involved. Especially considering that Rogue One is coming out later this year, if I'm not mistaken." Sparkjump finished his little rant.
"Well, that's a very interesting point of view." Soul said.
"It's just, goddamn, I wasn't even hyped and I somehow was very disappointed." Sparkjump. "Anyways, I think we should go back to another topic before I blow off more steam." He proposed, with others agreeing, they discussed on things they did on the winter break and other interesting things. Finally the time had come for lunch to finish. Everyone went to their respective classes, and Sparkjump had chemistry.
"Fuck." He said as he checked his schedule.
Le Time Skip to gym class.
It was now gym class for Sparkjump, he was doing some stretching exercises to warm-up for the class, he didn't have the gym uniform, so he had to go along with his Valencia FC away threads. He was thankful how he was barely able to be able to participate in the class without the proper gym uniform, cause the coach didn't seem too happy about that.
"Hey Sparky" Eclipse approached him.
"Oh hey Eco" Spark answered back. "What's up?"
"Well, the coach is usually merciful during the first week of school but sadly since this isn't I thought to give you a fair warning to prepare yourself for a lot of struggle." Eclipse said. Spark only sniggered at the statement.
"You know me, I can run for days. I don't think even 50 laps cant take me down!" He proudly bragged.
"Yeah, but I don't think 60 push-ups will still be a walk in the park, more like a crawl in the desert." This immediately turned down Sparkjump.
"Oh, nevermind, as long as we run I'll be okay, then let my pain commence." Spark said, clearly worried.
Le Time Skip of about 15 minutes...
"COME ON LADIES, COACH IRON WILL DOESN'T APPROVE OF FRAGILITY, WORK HARDER!" The Coach was screaming at the students, Spark plummeted to the ground just when he hit the 60 push-up mark.
"This will hurt later today, and tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, and so on... maybe even after Wrestlemania..." He whined.
"Well, at least you made it through... Swift over there is still kind of having trouble..." He saw Swift was struggling, with Pinkie trying t as soon as he hit another push-up Pinkie yelled out loud.
"THIRTEEN!" She screamed as she counted his push-ups.
"Well damn, poor guy, I hope he'll stay alright." Spark said slightly concerned. Then the coach decided to blow his whistle abruptly, something that startled Spark a lot.
"JESUS CRUYFF. DEJE DE HACER ESO!" He shouted, but the coach didn't care.
"ALRIGHT LADIES, IT'S YOUR COACH'S FAVOURITE TIME, DODGEBALL!" A few students, mostly the ones that seemed like athletes, cheered. While everyone else just groaned or moaned. He set up multiple balls in the middle line of the basketball court.
"Just like always Rainbow Dash and Tyrone will be the captains!" A girl and a boy stepped up. The girl had cyan skin, somehow rainbow-coloured hair and magenta eyes. The boy was dressed completely in black.
"Jesus, I doubt that hair is natural, and that guy seems a bit obsessed with black." He thought.
"Alright, Rainbow, you pick first!" The Coach exclaimed.
"Pinkie, get over here!" She said, as Pinkie now hopped over to Rainbow's side.
"My main man, Clyde, come here!" Tyrone said as Clyde was now with him.
"Alright then, Eclipse, come over!" Rainbow picked.
Goddamn, another Le Time Skip, i need to do these less often, don't you think?
It was down to Sparkjump, Swift and another 2 girls that he didn't recognize, the first one had light yellow skin, very puffy orange hair with yellow streaks and magenta eyes. The other one had light blue skin, white hair, and purple eyes.
"Come on Rainbow Dash, your team won't be able to take on theirs without The Great and Powerful Trixie's ability!" Spark seemed irritated at that monologue.
"Plus, it'd be your doom to let me join the-"
"Oye, te puedes callar, por favor? Thank you." Spark angrily asked Trixie, which seemed to calm her down a bit. This also made Rainbow laugh a bit.
"I don't know what you said, or what you're made of, but you can join us, rookie." Rainbow invited Spark over, which he accepted, considering his best pal was on that team too, they did their special handshake again, too.
"Eh... Swift, come over here, dawg." Tyrone said as Swift went over to his team. The puffy haired girl was chosen over Rainbow's team and Trixie went to Tyrone's team.
"ALRIGHT, IF YOU'RE SET UP THEN WE CAN START THIS, I'M ALREADY ANXIOUS TO SEE PAIN!"
Both teams went to their respective side of the court, and waited for the coach to blow the whistle.
"This time I am not going to fail..." Swift said as he waited for the coach to blow the whistle.
FWEEEEET!
"What was that noise-"
*BONK*
"SWIFT YOU'RE OUT!"
"Ow, not again, dangit." Swift complained as he made his way to the bleachers.
"Alright then... that's one of-"
*BONK*
"VOLT, YOU'RE OUT!"
"I knew it, I sure as hell knew it..." He said in a defeated tone, walking to the bleachers.
"That seemed unlucky." Swift told him.
"Not exactly unlucky, but more of a lack of paying attention situation." Spark said while watching the game, sitting besides Swift, he noticed how a lot of the balls were given to Pinkie, which got him confused.
"What are they trying to do?" He asked Swift, who only sniggered.
"Just watch." Spark turned to see Pinkie starting to spin frantically, releasing the dodgeballs towards them, eliminating a good bit of Tyrone's team members. Spark seemed impressed at the deed.
"Woah, damn dude. That's rad." He remarked, but it was a short show as Tyrone, somehow caught one of the balls directed towards him, eliminating Pinkie. Everyone seemed impressed at that, and his team cheered very loudly.
"PINKIE, YOU'RE OUT. SWIFT, YOU'RE IN!" coach Iron Will screamed, as a disgruntled Swift walked back to Tyrone's side.
"I'll get you back, Sparky!" Eclipse said, as now he was preparing for the next throw.
Later on, Rainbow's team was narrowed down to Sunset, Spark due to a miraculous Eclipse save, Eclipse, and Rainbow.
Tyrone's team was composed of himself, Clyde, Soul, and a girl called First Light.
Soul and Sunset threw a ball at each other, only for their own to bounce back towards them from the impact, hitting Soul in the stomach and Sunset in the shoulder.
"SUNSET, SOUL, YOU'RE OUT." The Coach screamed as both of them walked out, Spark still gave Soul a thumbs up and Sunset a High five for their efforts.
The game, however, had to be ended as a draw as the bell rung, Spark was relieved the class had finally ended, he went to get his things from the locker room. The school day finally had ended, he was walking towards the exit, when Eclipse called him out.
"Hey, Sparky!" He turned around to face Eclipse. "So I was wondering if, uh, you could follow me to the music room?" He asked.
"Oh yeah... about that-" Spark's phone rang. "Just give me a minute." He picked it up and spoke. "Hello?.... Ah Bronze! Hey what's up? ...... Okay..... Oh, cool! what else?........ Oh okay, great....... Yeah, I do............ Oh really? Hell yeah I've been waiting long enough to come back!.... Alright yeah, see you later, bye." He hung up.
"Sorry, my best childhood friend is moving here, as well as my older sister coming to take a visit, and finally there's this futbol tournament that'll be held in this city, that I'll be able to participate in." He said, with Eclipse giving him a smile.
"That's great, now come, we need to introduce you to the rest of our group."
"Shit man, sorry, I actually have to go home, due to the fact my friend is coming in and my sister's visiting, so yeah, sorry man. Maybe sometime later?" Spark said dejectedly.
"Okay, little bro, I got no problem with that. I'll see you tomorrow." Spark nodded and they said their farewells, as he was now walking home.
"Maybe this school isn't as bad as I thought..." He said to himself as he had a smile on.
