The homely, ungainly worm grows up and goes through metamorphosis, becoming a fully-matured butterfly, a common token of beauty. The devastating rain floods the world, but soon comes a breathtaking rainbow and everything is suddenly rectified.

If I were to ask you what those two cases had in common, you would likely say something to the extent of a linear progression from negative to positive. But that is simply fanciful stereotyping.
