Moving On
I'm Sorry
Load Full Story“I’m scared Mommy” the little filly said. Her mother smiled sadly and nodded.
“I know my love. Mommy is very sorry…”
The filly shivered. Her mother frowned.
“Are you cold Sugar?”
The filly nodded. The mother’s eyes filled with water.
“Oh, moonbeam.” She hugged the filly tightly. She caressed her blue mane and kissed her forehead. “I’ll keep you warm.” The filly smiled.
“Mommy? Why are you crying? I’m not leaving yet.” The filly asked innocently.
“Your mommy is okay… she just can’t bear you leaving her.” The mother said softly, tears streaming down her cheeks.
The filly struggled to smile. “It’s ok, one day we’ll be together again. I’m so tired Mommy. I wish I didn’t have to leave”
Her mother gasped as if her heart had been stabbed by a knife. “Be strong, baby”
The filly just sighed. “I love you Mommy” her breathing slowed and she closed her eyes. A long beep echoed throughout the room.
Trixie was roused from her sleep by a loud knock. Rubbing her eyes, the she got up to open the door. “Ugh it better not be those colts again.”
“Be gone worthless foals! I have no time for your antics!” she cried fiercely.
Sunset Shimmer grinned. “Easy, tiger… It’s just me.”
Trixie blinked, stunned. “S-Sunset?”
Sunset grinned. “Um, yeah. Never were that smart, huh Trix?”
“Where were you, all these years? I-I—” Trixie stammered, unable to form words. Something dark clouded in the other mare’s eyes. Something Trixie had never seen before.
Sunset sighed. “I made a few bad decisions, Trix, and now I’m back to fix them. Starting with you. I know I don’t deserve it, but I have to see her. I have to see our daughter.”
Trixie winced. This was going to hurt. “You left me Sunset. You left us. I’m sorry, but she’s gone.”
The orange unicorn’s eyes widened. Tears gathered in the wide blue- green irises. She took a step back, as if physically hurt. “Oh…”
Suddenly the stricken look on her face was replaced by determination.
“I told you I would fix those mistakes Trix. That’s exactly what I’m going to do.” She said. Sunset’s horn lit up, and in a flash of green sparks, the two mares disappeared.
Trixie shook her head, ridding the effects of the teleportation. “You should warn Trixie before you—” she trailed off when she realized where she was standing. Canterlot Orphanage.
Sunset smiled a little. “Surprise! Remember the last time we were here together?” Trixie squeezed her eyes shut.
“You left me…. What are you trying to do? You can’t take back 6 years! You promised you would come back. I-I thought you were dead. Where the hell were you?” the blue mare was almost shouting.
Sunset’s smile faded. “I got caught up in my studies. Soon, I stopped writing. Something changed in me and I started getting really competitive and pushed my way to the top. I even became Celestia’s student. I don’t know what came over me. When Celestia got a new student who was better at magic then me, I got jealous. I got really jealous and I snapped, I couldn’t control my emotions and I ran through a portal into another world. My pain and anger grew on the other side, so much that I forgot everything we had together and our baby. I made so many mistakes Trix. I still love you, but I don’t deserve you anymore. I want you to move on. From me and the baby.”
Trixie just stood, frozen. “I’m sorry Sunset, but I’ve moved on. I d-don’t love you anymore. What more do you want from me?”
Sunset sighed. “I should have expected that. I just want you to have a family like you always wanted.” Trixie could barely hold back tears.
Something tugged on the showmare’s foreleg. A little white Pegasus filly with black hair and glimmering brown eyes was looking up at her “Excuse me. I heard voices over here. Could you help me? I’m, umm, blind so can you lead me back to my home?”
Trixie stared at her with a surprised look. “Are you from the orphanage, Sugar—I mean little filly?”
The filly nodded. Sunset smiled at Trixie encouragingly. “Very well, Trixie will take you back to your house.”
The white Pegasus smiled. “Yay! My name is Moonshine… What’s your name?”
Trixie sniffed. “My name is Trixie. I’m sure we will be very good friends Moonshine. Trixie will take you back, but first she has to talk with her friend.”
“Okay, miss” Moonshine said.
Trixie walked over to where Sunset was standing and put her hoof on her face. “You’ve caused me so much pain you know that? I spent years agonizing. Wondering where you were and if you’d ever come back. Our baby got sick and I was so worried. The doctors told me she wouldn’t live much longer. I cried alone that night. I wished so badly you were there to hold me, but you weren’t. When she died you weren’t there. You weren’t there at her funeral. You weren’t ever there, Sunset.”
Sunset’s tears burned her hoof. Trixie leaned over and softly kissed her muzzle. “Trixie may not love you anymore, but she appreciates you trying to fix your mistake.”
Sunset was sobbing now. “I’m sorry Trix.” Her once-warm hooves now felt cold to touch and her kiss felt reluctant. Trixie really didn’t love her anymore.
Trixie soothed her. Rubbing her soft yellow and red mane after so many years felt surreal. “I’m sorry too” Sunset pulled away from her and looked into her eyes. The fierce look Sunset usually wore, the one Trixie loved the most, was replaced with a deep sorrow and regret.
The orange mare hastily wiped her tears way. “You go and get that filly. You love her, take care of her, and watch her grow up. I want this for you, I know I can’t give back what you lost, but I need you to be happy. I would never be able to live with myself if you carried on in such misery. I will always love you Trix. Never forget that.”
Trixie lightly punched the other pony. “Trixie can’t tell whether you are selfish of selfless.” She said playfully.
Sunset waved good-bye to Trixie and Moonshine, and walked away feeling more satisfied then she had in years.
