Chapter 1: The One You Least Expect
Valentine’s Day. A day where you see nothing but sickly pink hearts taped lazily against the walls of Canterlot high school. As soon as I walk in, I see nothing but pink. Pink, pink pink. Much like the pink in Twilight’s hair. I open the door to homeroom for morning check in, and I see Pinkie Pie looking at a guy who I’ve heard is Cheese Sandwich with giant eyes as he opens the sickly pink envelope she gave to him. My stomach churns as I sit down next to Rarity, who gushes over the paper cards on her desk. I see Twilight has gotten something, too. Possibly from Flash, I feel heat rise to my face in anger. Why am I angry? I’m Rainbow Dash, I don’t get angry!
I see someone slip something onto my desk, and go quickly before I could see who it is. Picking up the yellow and grey envelope, Rarity asks who it’s from. “I don’t know, but I’ve got a pretty good idea.” I point at Derpy. “Open it, open it!” Rarity whines and pushes me back and forth.
“I’m not gonna open it if you keep on pushing me like this.” I state. I open it and stare at the quickly drawn heart on it. I have to admit, it’s pretty cute, like a child wrote it for their big sister.
I walk over to Derpy and see she’s hiding her face with a book. Cloudkicker just puts his hand on her shoulders and tell her that “It’s gonna be okay.”
“Derpy? I got your letter, if it…well, if it was from you. I have to tell you this, I’m…not really that interested in dating right now. I’m way too awesome to be held down by some girl! No offense,” I add in at the last second. I quickly leave before I see Derpy burst into tears as she gets a mountain of hugs from Cloudkicker.
“Has Twilight got anything yet?” I ask Fluttershy as I sit back down. She only shrugs, being a little disappointed at the lack of valentine’s cards on her desk.
“Sorry you didn’t get anything this year, Flutter. I’m positive you’ll get something next year!” I say and hug her.
“That’s okay, Rainbow. I get one from the animal shelter every year from the homeless dogs.” She smiles.
“That’s the spirit!” I say, hoping to try and cheer her up.
The bell rings and the three of us see if we have a free lesson. Turns out we do! Time to go look for Sunset, Twilight and Applejack. Pinkie pie insists on bringing her new ‘boyfriend’ along with her.
The seven of us sit in front of what used to be the portal to Equestria, setting our things up for a picnic.
“I wonder if Twilight’s having a nice Valentine’s Day.” Fluttershy says, placing her backpack down on the floor and sitting next to Sunset Shimmer. "I don't know if Equestria even celebrates it," I respond.
“So, Rainbow dash, did you get anything this year?” Sunset asks me. “Uh, like one.” I take the crumpled up note that was in my pocket and hand it to her. “Oh my god. Derpy? Really? I knew she was odd, but to be…gay AND odd?” Sunset giggles, and the rest of us just glare at her as if she’s committed a horrible crime.
“Sorry, sorry. I got a little carried away there.” She places the note back into my hands. A little hurt and offended by her comments, I turn to Pinkie Pie.
Just then, I hear something behind me, and see something glow.
Someone is coming out of the portal again!
