It is a hippocampi rule that all fillies and colts will recieve their full names once they have found what makes them unique. Pepper, Crystal, and Grass are three descendants of the 'evil' hippocampi queen, MerStar. From the book of Campi, it says that the three born from the queen shall find their special talents upon land, and are destined to live on the surface. However, the book also reads that if the three never go to the surface they will rule the sea, bringing great evil upon land, water, and air. This is not something the three fillies want to do, so they are determined to reach the surface. Except MerStar forbids it.
