Manehattan

1:00 AM

Manehattan was busy as usual. With the large crowds of people walking, crossing, and driving every day and night. The sun was shining brightly with zero clouds in sight. Stores around the street were selling their products and the streets were alive with cars.. Since twilight had never been to manehattan before she was thrilled to see the sights. Norman on the other hand was sitting down on a bench, wearing a brown coat and shades, looking at a newspaper. Twilight didn't know what was so important about reading a newspaper and how it involved their objective.

“Why are you reading a newspaper?” Twilight said as she sat down next to him.

“Well, I got to learn about manehattan somehow.” Norman responded, pulling down the newspaper.

“There's construction going on here.” Norman said as he pointed on a column dedicated to the new skyscraper.

“Ten bucks says we'll find her there.” Norman betted, getting up from the bench.

“Are you sure?” Twilight asked.

“This is the only building being built in the city. Of course, i’m sure.” Norman answered with determination.

“Let's get going then.” Twilight answered as they walked to their destination. Unknowingly being followed close behind.

Adagio liked the view. Recently, she had gotten a job in construction and was now working on the top floor of a skyscraper that would become manehattan’s tallest.

Whenever she wasn't banging away on the wood and tools she'd admire the view of the city and how close it resembled the one in equestria. Adagio could feel the breeze flow through her short hair, which had to be cut to fit standards and smiled, not in a evil or devious way, just a happy smile.

Just as she was enjoying the view her thoughts were interrupted by the tugging of a muscular dark blue man with a much lighter hair color, holding onto a hammer with his other hand. Adagio turned and realized it was her boss.

“Get back to work, dazzle!” He yelled with his gravelly voice, and a look of dissatisfaction.

“Uh,sorry, gorge. Won’t happen again.” Adagio replied, slightly off guard by his volume. His face then went from dissatisfaction to a smile as he chuckled to himself, giving adagio a hand. Whatever tension built up in adagio quickly vanished as she realized it was a joke and laughed, accepting his hand.

“Haha. Gotcha didn’t I?” Gorge said, pulling her up the floor.

“You certainly did.” Adagio agreed.

“Anyways, turns out we’re leaving early today.”

“Really, why?” Adagio asked.

“Two cops showed up and said we had to halt production for today.”

“How do you know they were cops.” Adagio said, narrowing her eyes.

“They showed me their badges.” Gorge replied, noticing adagio’s confused looks.

“Hey, i’m just as confused as you, but if the law says to stop construction it’s my job to follow.” Gorge said. Adagio nodded and walked to a large room that had all the workers items and such. Walking towards hers, she began shifting through the items in her bag. While she was doing this she noticed an invitation on the bench next to her. Grabbing it to get a closer look, she began reading it to herself.

“What is this?” Adagio asked gorge, who was still there.

“An invitation to the gala tonight. Usually it’s just full of rich people but they thought it’d be nice to invite us, this is their building after all.” Gorge said, as he looked at the building. Adagio looked at the invitation again and put it in her bag.

“Sorry, I don’t do parties.” adagio said sternly, getting gorge’s attention.

“Come on, when was the last time you’ve ever been to a party this fancy?” Gorge said.

“80 years.” She whispered to herself.

“People don’t live forever, adagio. A party like this is full of wonderful people. Even celebrities go to gala’s.If I was your age, I would have been there in a heartbeat.’

“Just think about it.” Gorge smiled.

“Fine. I’ll think about it.” Adagio replied, giving in to his request.

“Thank you.” He said as he grabbed his bag and headed for the door, stopping at the door frame.

Besides, maybe you’ll find the one.” He joked before walking out.

“Funny.” Adagio said. Looking at it one last time, she laughed at the thought of finding ‘’the one”. She zipped her bag and held on to the strap, walking out the building. Adagio made her way home in silence, waiting for the light to change at every crosswalk and blending in with the large crowd surrounding her.

Reaching her apartment she opened the door and went up the stairs to her room. shuffling through her bag again to find her keys. When she grabbed her keys she put it in the lock and twisted. Only to realize the door was already unlocked, she could have sworn she locked the door this morning but shrugged it off. She knew this part of manehattan was nice and opened the door to her apartment.

She closed the door and locked it, taking a deep breath, she dropped everything on the floor and walked to her kitchen. Opening the refrigerator she grabbed a soda and drank it, walking to her bedroom. She turned the knob and noticed the room was dark, she could have sworn she left a window open. Turning a light, she was then greeted by a familiar grey man standing right in front of her.

“Hello, adagio.” Norman said sternly.

“Holy!” She jumped, dropping her soda. Adagio, feeling like she just saw a ghost, did not care about the soda staining her carpet. Dropping on her back, she crawled backwards towards the door.

“Norman. Are you actually there.” Adagio said.

“Yes, adagio. It's actually me.” Norman replied.

“How long has it been?” Adagio said.

“Three years.” Norman answered.

“How's life?” Norman asked.

“Great, but…… Why are you here?” Adagio said, getting herself off the floor.

“To get you, actually.” Norman said.

“I should have known you'd take me back to jail.” She sighed in defeat.

“Actually, I cleared your name after you left.” Norman clarified.

“So you're not here to arrest me?” Adagio asked.

“No.” Norman replied, giving adagio a sigh of relief.

Construction, huh. Didn't expect you to work there.” Norman said, looking through the apartment window, seeing the busy street below and off in the distance. The new skyscraper.

“So, you halted production, today, just to get me?” Adagio clarified, raising an eyebrow.

“Well, when you say it like that it becomes a bad thing.” Norman replied, turning his head, looking at adagio. Adagio then remembered gorge said two cops halted production. Then remembering bonbon and thought she was with him.

“I suppose bonbon is outside?” Adagio asked.

“No, actually, twilight is.” Norman corrected.

“Which twilight?” Adagio asked, which Norman gave a confused look. Norman then remembered the whole pony princess thing.

“The only one I know.” Norman clarified.

“Why'd you bring her.” Adagio said.

“It's her job, now.” Norman said.

“Seems we're getting to off topic here. Adagio, I'm here because I need you to come with me.” Norman said with absolutely no expression.

“Ha. What do you need me for?” She smiled.
Before telling the truth Norman cautioned her that she needs to sit down. Complying, with a rather glazed look, she sat on her bed and looked at Norman, who pulled up a chair and sat in front of her.

“Adagio, there was a breach in one of our prisons in China. That prison was supposedly the safest place we could put him.” Norman said.

“Him? Who escaped your prison?” Adagio asked with skepticism.

“Behemoth.” Norman answered, her glazed expression changed from zero interest to fear. As she remembered the terrifying things she witnessed and had to do. Her mind was in a panic. She remembered how he had broke her out of prison and killed every guard in the prison. She then remembered when he had told her to kill silver spoon. And When she had finally gotten her magic back, she recalled the amount of hate for her siren sisters betraying her and the rainbooms destroying her chances at adoration. thought that behemoth had died. Adagio, did not want anything to do with behemoth after her pendant incident.

As her mind went back to normal, she had a blank exception and walked out of the room. Leaving her apartment, she sat on the steps on the front door outside, Norman following her closely behind.

“No.” Adagio responded.

“I'm not helping you….I don't want to see that thing again.” Adagio said sternly.

“But, we need your help.” Twilight said, walking up to adagio.

“Oh yeah? What do you need me for!” Adagio yelled.

“Even if I wanted to join, I wouldn’t be much help to you.” Adagio said in a low voice.

“You were with behemoth the longest. We need your help tracking.” Norman said, leaning on the door.

“Just because I was with him, doesn’t mean I knew him.”

“I just thought he was some idiot with magic. though, he kinda was.” Adagio said.

“I only followed him so I could get my powers back.” She said as she got up, walking back to the door norman politely side stepped out of her way, to open the door. as she opened the door she stopped halfway and turned her head.

“I wish I could help, but I don’t think i’d be much help.” Adagio said truthfully.

“But, thanks, for everything.” Adagio added before closing the door.

“But, wait!” Twilight yelled, walked up the steps to open the door knob, but didn’t as norman’s hand grabbed her wrists, telling her not to open it. Letting his hand off, She pulled back her hand to her waist, standing straight up, and faced norman.

“What are we gonna do now?” Twilight asked.

“we leave. Adagio needs some time to think. Just wait, twilight she’ll reconsider and when she does we’ll be waiting.” Norman spoke solemnly.

“You really think she will.” Twilight asked, still a bit unsure.

“Trust me.” Norman said, walking off. Twilight shortly following him. Adagio, listening to the whole thing, was on the other side of the door. Taking his words on repeat in her mind. She sighed with a frown, walking her way up to her apartment room, again. She went in her room and laid on her bed, still thinking about norman’s words. Maybe she did need time to think about it. She remembered everything that happened in the three years and a single tear came from her eye. A few minutes later she fell asleep.

When she woke up again it was 6 o’clock. She got up to make microwave dinner and ate it in silence. After she was done, she noticed the invitation to the gala and grabbed it, reading it’s contents again. When she did she decided to go, so she could take her mind off things. Realizing it started at 7, she quickly got up to get ready.

It turned out the party wasn't that far from her apartment and easily walked there. The building was actually a huge restaurant converted to a party. She could smell the kitchen as she got in. As she walked to a large part of the building she saw tables full of people and a stage in front of her.

Almost immediately she heard someone yell her name through a large crowd of men in tuxedo’s. Turning her head she saw gorge, holding a bottle of alcohol, waving hello with his other hand. She walked up to him and noticed other people in construction were sitting next to him. Gorge then pulled out a seat for her and began talking.

“I knew you would come, tonight.”

“Well, I had to do something to take my mind off things.” Adagio said.

“Oh, did something happen?” He asked with concern.

“An old friend showed up, today. I'd rather not talk about it.”

“Fine by me.” A man said, who had just finished his bottle of alcohol. Adagio didn't really know him that much since he doesn't like to talk to anyone. Most people in construction call him, Abraham. He looked like a typical evil villain from one of those daring do movies. Come to think of it he did look like ahuizotl. But she passed it off as just a coincidence. Her thoughts were interrupted as he screamed out at the waiter.

“Waiter! I demand more of this toxin in my cup and into my body.” Abraham yelled, which caught the eyes of multiple people.

“Yes s-sir.” She complied, with a scared look, making an attempt to get his refill as quick as possible.

She couldn't blame her, at 6’8 he looked intimidating. And to be honest with herself she was also scared of him, Which barely anyone can do. But both of them were on par with each other on how easily they got the job done.

“Thanks, Abe. You made us seem like cavemen.” Gorge said with disappointment.

“I don't care how barbaric these know it all alls think I am.” He said, as the waitress poured him some alcohol.

“Can't you atleast show a little consideration and tact. These guys don't normally invite people like us. And quite frankly I don't think these are the nicest of people.” Gorge spoke with honesty.

“Actually, we mostly are.” A blue haired white man said walking.

“Hi, my names fancy pants, you must be gorge.” Fancy said, shaking his hand.

“Why, yes. I'm the boss and these are my workers.” Gorge said waving his hand to them which they returned, except Abraham who screamed at the waitress. Fancy got a look at all of them and stopped when he noticed a familiar women sitting in the group. Which he went from calm to a slightly angered look, clenching his hands, which gorge took notice of.

“Is something wrong?” Gorge asked. Fancy snapped out of it and unclenched his hands. Taking control of himself he re adjusted his monocle.

“It's nothing, I'm fine. Allow yourself to have all you can eat….. And drink.” Fancy said, noticing the many refills Abraham already got.

“Sir, I really think you shouldn't be d-drinking any more.” She stuttered.

“Donn’t ter me whhuut to do.” He slurred. Then falling on the floor, which he immediately got help from his fellow workers.

“Yeah, I think we won't be having any drinks for the rest of the night.” Gorge said.

“I agree.” Fancy said, before getting a phone call

“Excuse me, I've got to go.” Fancy said before walking off.

“I have to go for a second.” Adagio said, getting up from her seat.

At the front of the building a hooded man was standing in front of the door. He walked up ready to open it but was stopped by the bouncer.

“Invite only.” He said.

“If you want to have a working arm I suggest you not touch me.” He said menacingly.

“Oh yeah, what are you gonna do about it?” The bouncer said leaning closer to his face.

“Big mistake, bub.” He said as he punched him in the jaw, knocking him unconscious. Realizing it was locked he searched the unconscious man’s body for a key. Opening it, he made his way through the building to the tables.

Adagio made her way to the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. Seeing someone from canterlot at the party was not something she had hoped to see. And she could tell in his eyes that he recognized her. As she was thinking she jumped in surprise as she noticed the girl looking at her in the reflection, she turned her head to look.

“Sorry.” Twilight apologized.

“Did you follow me here?” Adagio asked. Twilight looked down and nodded.

“The answers still no.” adagio said, turning around to face her.

“Adagio, we really need you.” Twilight pleaded.

“sure.” She doubted.

“There is no convincing you is there?” Twilight asked, hoping for her to answer. Adagio stopped and turned.

“Nothing will. Twilight, I don’t know you, but even I-” Her words were interrupted by the sound of gunshots and loud screams.

“What was that?” Adagio yelled in a panic.

“Trouble.” Twilight said, pulling out her phone and a pistol.

“You were armed this whole time.” Adagio yelled.

“Rule states to always come prepared.” Twilight said as she was pulling up her contacts.

“Norman, we have a problem.” she said.

Everyone was quiet and in complete shock at the man who was standing at the center of the room with a gun. Pulling up a shot he began drinking it and smiling. As he looked at around his smile became anger and began yelling.

“Where is, twilight sparkle!” He yelled.

“Who wants to know.” A girl with light blue skin and purple hair said, which he turned to face her, making her quiver in fear just by looking his eyes.

“Me.” He answered, pulling his hood down. He was a dark grey man with brilliant scarlet eyes and black spiky hair.

“My name is Sombra.”
