I am Normal
Sparkling Stream walked towards school, like any other day. She waved goodbye to her mother as she walked into the small building. She sat down in the back where she normally sat. She brushed her hair out of her left eye. Now, for the most part, Streamy was "normal". With one exception. Her left eye was completely blind. Her right eye saw everything, which was quite straining. Streamy wore a pair of large square glasses.
Streamy looked to her right as a mare she didn't recognize sat down next to her. She was a unicorn with a white coat, green eyes, and blue pigtails. She was wearing a blue cape on her back.
The mare must've noticed Streamy looking at her, because she turned and said,"O-Oh, hi."
"Hi.." The mint green pegasus said awkwardly, not meaning to start a conversation. Not wanting to say any more, she turned her head to the front of the classroom. She scowled as she saw her school's notorious bullies, Scarlett Storm and Peppermint Aqua. They were playing keepaway with the bag of Sandy Quartz, a classmate. She wanted to step in, but felt too scared to speak. Luckily, they stopped as their teacher, Silver Lining-whom the students called Ms. Silver- walked in.
"Good morning,class!" She said cheerfully. "Before we begin, I'd like to introduce a new student. Her name is Raindrop. Would you like to introduce yourself?"
"Okay.." The small unicorn stood up from her desk."My name is Raindrop. I came from Canterlot and.. um.. my.. parents wanted to get away from Canterlot. So I'm here."
The Class sat silently as she sat back down. "Alright!" Ms.Silver said. "We're glad to have you. Now let's begin our math lesson."
The hour and a half of the first class seemed to fly by. Streamy got up from her seat and walked out with all the other fillies. Streamy walked over to a few fillies playing jump rope.
"Hey Cosmos!" She said cheerfully "Hey Cookie Crush!'
"Hi Streamy!" Cookie Crush said. "Wanna join us?"
The young filly nodded. She held one end of the rope. Cookie Crush was jumping first. Just as the rope started to swing, Streamy saw Raindrop walking over. All three fillies turned around.
"H-hey." The white unicorn said. "Can I join?"
"Sure." Deep Cosmos said. "You can jump with Cookie Crush."
Raindrop and Cookie Crush started jumping. Raindrop fumbled a few times, but soon got the hang of it. About ten jumps in, Raindrop got distracted by yelling at the other end of the playground. She turned around. It was Scarlet and Peppermint. They were surrounding some filly. A few others were watching. Raindrop nearly tripped over the rope as she ran over.
"What are you doing?" Streamy called to her. She dropped the rope and ran after her. She didn't want the new girl to be hurt on her first day.
Scarlet and Peppermint were around a lavender earth pony with a black mane and crimson eyes. They were holding a piece of paper over her head.
"Want this, demon girl?" Scarlet teased. "Too bad!"
"What are you doing?" Raindrop said loudly. The fillies turned around.
"Why do you care, new girl?" Peppermint snarled. "It's none of your business."
"You shouldn't be teasing her." Raindrop said, getting closer to them.
"So?"Scarlett said."What are you gonna do if we don't stop?"
"You don't want to know." Raindrop hissed.
Scarlet smirked."What's that cape for?"
"Nothing!" Raindrop seemed defensive.
"Raindrop!"Streamy was finally able to push through the crowd.
"Huh?" Raindrop seemed confused. "What are you-"
"Oh great, Blindy's here." Peppermint jabbed. "This doesn't concern either of you two!"
"Leave that girl alone!" Raindrop spat, insistent.
" Fine." Scarlet said, dropping the paper in front of the lavender filly. "But we're coming for you two next. C'mon Peppermint." The blue pegasus followed Scarlet to another end of the playground. The crowd dispersed. The Lavender filly walked over to Raindrop and Streamy.
"Thanks." She said.
"It was nothing." Raindrop shrugged it off. "You just looked like you needed help. What's your name, by the way?"
"Um, Lavender." She said. "Lavender Blood." Streamy seemed really tense around Lavender.
"Nice."
The bell rang for the next period. All the fillies walked in. There were two teachers standing next to Ms.Silver. One was a blue pegasus with a deep blue mane and pink eyes. The other was a unicorn with a red coat, a black mane, and green eyes.
“This is Blue Moon, your flight teacher.” Ms.Silver said, gesturing to the pegasus. “And this is your magic teacher, Volcanic Flame. Earth ponies will be taught strength,speed and agriculture by me. Pegasi outside, Unicorns follow Mrs.Blaze. Earth ponies stay here.”
All the group's went their separate ways. Streamy waved goodbye to raindrop. She felt somepony shove her to the side. It was Peppermint. Streamy groaned as she walked through the door to go outside.
“Today we will start our flight pretest.” Blue Moon Started. “It's fine if you get a low score, but I want to see improvement when we take our mid test and post test. You will be going in alphabetical order. First is… Abacus Slide?”
Streamy watched as all the young pegasus flew with almost no struggle. She sighed as she looked at her own wings. Her blind eye was an extreme disadvantage when it came to flying. She could barely see where she was going and pay attention to flapping her wings.
“Peppermint Aqua?”
The light blue filly strutted up to the beginning of the course. She tore through the obstacles, faster than Streamy had ever seen a filly fly. Peppermint was done in a matter of a few minutes. Streamy was stunned. She had never seen Peppermint fly like that. She watched more fillies complete the course.
“Sparkling Stream?”
The mint coated pegasus almost jumped at hearing her name. She awkwardly stepped up to the front of her course. She took a deep breath and opened her blue tinted wings. She started flying. She got as high as possible and flew toward to get through the cloud busting course. She got through it, but very slowly. She went through the some more of the course like that. Then she suddenly felt herself falling. Her wings had just snapped to her sides. Soon she was laying on the grassy ground, confused and surrounded by ponies.
“Give her space!” A student shouted. The crowd backed up. Blue Moon stood in front of Streamy.
“Are you okay?” She said.
“Um, y-yeah.” Streamy said, slowly getting up. She pushed her glasses up as she shook her head to regain vision. Through the crowd of worried faces, she could see Peppermint Aqua smirking.
“Let’s go on to the next pony.” Blue Moon said as Streamy moved back into the crowd of pegasi. “Snowstorm?”
Streamy felt nervous to go to school again. She had no idea what Scarlett and Peppermint were up to. She was hoping the whole fiasco would blow over, but this kind of thing had happened before. Last year, a mare named Clouded Skies was being teased by Scarlett. She lashed out and accidentally hit her. Soon rumors were spread about her, and the teasing got much worse. It soon got bad enough that Clouded Skies started going to a different school. Streamy was terrified that it would happen to her. And Raindrop.
She sighed as her mother trotted away. She trudged through the door and sat in the back. Raindrop was already in the same spot she was yesterday.
“Hey.” The unicorn said.
“Hi..” Streamy had zoned out. She sighed. “I’m really worried.”
“About what?” Raindrop asked,confused. “Those bullies? Don’t worry, if they touch us, I can take care of them.” A blue aura glowed around Raindrop’s horn.
“I don’t think some magic will stop them…” Streamy mumbled. Just at that moment, Scarlett and Peppermint walked in. Streamy tried to hide her face. Her heart was pounding like crazy.
I’m such a wimp… She thought to herself.
They sat right next to them. Scarlett sat beside Streamy, and Peppermint sat beside Raindrop.
Oh no.
Raindrop glared at both of them. Scarlett just batted her eyelashes, as if to say, What?
“What are you doing?” Raindrop said angrily.
“We can’t just sit somewhere new for once?” Peppermint said innocently. “With our best friends weirdo and Blindy?”
“Excuse me?” Raindrop said. “That’s not funny.”
Streamy thought she saw Raindrop’s eyes start to turn a light shade of red for a moment, but she thought nothing of it.
“Sure it is.” Scarlett said with almost no emotion.
“Shut up.” Raindrop hissed.
“What did you just say?” Scarlet said defensively.
Silver Lining walked into the room. She motioned for the class to calm down.
“Alright.” She said. “Let’s continue our math lesson.”
Scarlett was glaring at Raindrop during the whole of math. Streamy felt really uneasy, as if Scarlett would lash out at Raindrop in the middle of class. She knew she wouldn’t, but she was still terrified.
The bell finally rang for recess. Streamy jumped out of her chair, happy to be free. She was so distracted that she ran directly into Scarlett.
“Hey!” The pink earth mare shouted at her. “Watch it!”
“S-Sorry, Scarlett.” Streamy mumbled.
“You better be.” She scoffed before turning to the door.
The mint green pegasus sighed and walked out of the door. Raindrop appeared at her side. She walked with her.
“Don’t worry.” She reassured her. “We’ll be fine.”
“You don’t know that!” Streamy snapped. “You don’t know what they can do!”
“Yes, but I know what I can do.” Raindrop lifted up her cape for a moment. Streamy at first thought it was nothing, but then she saw them. Raindrop had wings! She was an alicorn. But how?
“Wha-” Streamy started. Raindrop put her hoof over her mouth.
“Don’t say a word.” She said. Streamy nodded.
“Hey, how about we talk to Lavender!” Raindrop said, looking over at the purple filly sitting by the edge of the building. “She looks lonely.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea…” Streamy said.
“Why not?”
“Well..” Streamy got quiet. “Lavender’s part of the Blood family. They’re said to.. summon demons. Plus, Lavender isn’t really the talking type.”
“Trust me, I know a thing or two about demons.” Raindrop said, already running over.
“What?” Streamy was confused.
“I’ll tell you later, c’mon!” Raindrop called to her. Streamy ran over.
“Hey Lavender!” Raindrop said cheerfully.
Lavender looked up, startled. “Oh,um, hi Raindrop.” She shoved a piece of paper behind her.
“How’s it goin?” Raindrop said. “You look lonely..”
“This is how I spend every recess.” Lavender reassured her.
“Hey!” Someone shouted from behind her. “Weirdo!”
It was Scarlett.
“What do you want?” Lavender spat, pushing Raindrop to the side.
“This doesn’t concern you, demon girl.” Scarlett hissed. Lavender scowled.
“Go away.” Streamy said, trying to be brave.
“You wish!” Scarlett shouted. Suddenly, Scarlett jumped to the side, directly next to Raindrop.
“Huh?” Raindrop asked. Suddenly, she fell to the ground as her cape was torn off. Scarlett looked up and spat the cape out. She looked up and gasped. All the ponies around them were staring.
Raindrop got up. She opened her eyes. They were bright red. A few ponies backed up. Lavender gasped.
“Raindrop!” Lavender said.
Without saying a word, Raindrop launched herself at Scarlett, who screamed as she fell to the ground.
“Get off of me!” She shouted.
Some sort of black smoke started forming around Raindrop legs,her body started to turn gray, and her mane grew darker. The bows holding her pigtails started to unloop and fall out.
“How dare you!” She shouted in a voice that seemed unlike her own. “I wanted to be normal! I wanted to be normal!”
“Raindrop, can you hear me?” Lavender shouted.
“What?” Streamy yelled, confused.
“She’s being taken over by a demon!” Lavender answered. “I’ve seen this before. Raindrop! I need you to take control!”
“No!” Raindrop shouted. “I need revenge first!”
Scarlett shut her eyes. Someone suddenly shoved Raindrop off of Scarlett. It was Peppermint Aqua.
“Get off of her, you freak!” She shouted.
Raindrop stood motionless on the floor for a moment. The black smoke disappeared, and her hair and body returned to their normal state. Her eyes were blue.
“Oh no…”
Ms.Silver ran onto the playground.
“What happened?”
Faster than you could say “Trouble”, Raindrop, Scarlett,and Peppermint were in Ms.Silver’s office.
“What was all this about?” She asked.
“They were making fun of me and Sparkling Stream!” Raindrop said, looking at the floor. “I… I didn’t know what to do… I-”
“I expected as much of you two.” Ms.Silver said. “This has happened before. If this keeps up,you’ll both get suspended, or even expelled!”
“Us?” Scarlett said.”She attacked us first! What about her?”
“Raindrop has some special… circumstances.” Ms.Silver said.
“What?!” Peppermint yelled. “She jumped on top of Scarlett!”
“Hush.” The gray earth pony said angrily. “I’ll deal with Raindrop separately. You two have detention for two days.”
“But-”
“No.” Ms.Silver said. “Leave. Go to your classes. Raindrop, stay.”
