Chapter 1 - Things Got Wierd Quick
I feel the warm breeze softly stroke my skin. I can feel grass underneath me, tickling my legs through the thin fabric of my trousers. I can feel the hard bark against my back and head, suggesting that I'm propped up against a tree In a sitting position.
I can hear the rustling of leaves as a breeze also passes over head and the chirping of excited birds communicating with each other.
The earthy smell brings a smile to my face, this place doesn't even remotely smell polluted. Beams of sunshine dot my body and try to squeeze through my eye lids and wake me from my nap. I decide now is a good time to get up.
I brace myself for the hardest part of the day, getting up. I slightly open one eye to let it adjust to the light level of the forest I'm in. I allow my other eye to view the beautiful scenery before me, displaying a pair of golden eyes, showing the world my wierd features, which included two-toned electric and cyan blue striped hair that slightly reacts to the brush of the wind.
I reach my arms into the air and stretch, then doing the same for my back. I inhale deeply, taking in the unique smells of the surrounding flora and release my breathe. I feel more awake now, as I stand up in what I can feel was a while ago. I would ask why I am in a forest but that would be pointless seeing as there is no one around.
I decide that the best course of action would be to find someone and ask how to get home, but without some sort of map it's just guess work from here. I let out a sigh, this is going to take a while. An Idea pops into my head. I'll leave a mark every few paces so that I know I've come this way. I grin, knowing I've beat nature this round.
I pick up the nearest rock and make a crude arrow on the tree I was laying on. I stuff it into my pocket and continue on my journey.
It's been an hour since I started walking and I am already getting tired. I slouch slightly as I continue on the path that has slight hoof impressions on the ground. I stop suddenly and bend down carefully so I didn't disturb the dirt too much. I run my hand over one of them, confirming that it is a hoof most commonly found on equines, although they are quite small and have a slightly different shape to what I am more familiar with.
I shrug the thought off, I mean, who cares? Where there are hooves, there are animals, and where there are animals, there are people. My logic sounds legit and congratulate myself on working out something so early in the morning.
I stand back up and quicken my pace to what is now known as salvation. The forest starts to thin out as the sky becomes more clear to see up ahead. I made it! I didn't actually think I would make it out until night or something, i'm so glad I did.
But just before I break through the cover, something very colourful draws my attention to the right. Curious I walk over to investigate this colourful thing.
I slightly hide myself behind a tree and look closer to the, now that I can now correctly see, a creature of some sort. I tilt my head in confusion, then shock, then dread. The butterscotch coat and pastle pink mane and tail told me that this is not an ordinary, if judging the height of 3 to 4 foot tall, pony. It is facing away from me at the moment, but from this angle I could clearly see a trio of butterflies with blue bodies and pink wings.
The pony turns around, now facing in the general direction of me but is not paying any attention to the area, only a couple of feet away from, I guess her, judging by the colours, I could be wrong. Then I see them, those pretty twin orbs of terquoise filling most of her face, her muzzle smaller than what I expect to see on a pony but still there all the same. It looks like she is feeding a dozen rabbits or so, that didn't seem to register in my head before but if you saw a yellow pony with huge eyes I don't think you would be concentrating on anything else either.
She is carrying bags connected at the top, the same yellow as the coat with the strange butterfly tattoo emberlised on each side. I continue to watch the strangely coloured equine, wondering how to approach it, when I saw something move on her back.
I squinted my eyes to get a better look, then I realise what I'm looking at. A pair of wings also the same colour as her coat flutter every now and then, acknowledging their existence. The colour is probably why I didn't notice them before. I'm staring at some mythical creature and my brain is shutting down.
This is not something you can just brush off as information, this is where you question your entire existence as to why there, standing a few feet away, is everyone's version of fantasy come alive. I need to get out of here, to rethink my strategy. I slowly back away as to not make any sudden movements so I didn- *SNAP*.
I freeze, everything stops dead as my heart thumps behind my ribcage, trying to break free from this nightmare.
"H-hello? Is somepony there?" A squeak of words comes from the same direction of the pony. Of course it talks, why wouldn't it? I'm not even surprised anymore. Well, my covers blown now, might as well make a good first impression. I open my mouth to say hello.
"Gruuugh *cough*". Ow. I reach to my throat to feel for what's wrong , my noisy growling brings the pony closer to my position.
"Oh my, are you lost?" I try again.
"Guhruugh". Ow that is worse than last time. My throat feels like it is on fire.
"Oh dear, you sound hurt. Come with me and I will help with the pain, come on, don't be shy." I stand my ground and give her a look that says 'I'm going nowhere with you'.
The pony doesn't seem to notice as she draws nearer to me. She reaches into her bag with her wing and presents a collar and a lead.
Did she have a dog? Is she showing it off? Why is she getting closer with the collar unclipped and edging closer to my neck? I take a step back, not sure how to counter the situation.
"Please wear the collar, if you don't, somepony might snatch you up when you're not looking, and that can be bad news for you if you're not careful." She explains in a soft voice, barely above a whisper.
Now, a normal person would of slapped the collar out of her hooves, flipped her off and ran, but if what she says is true and I am in danger of kidnapping, then I would rather be in the safety and comfort of a kind person, who really does appear to care about my well being.
I stop my retreat and slowly present my neck to the adorable, now hovering fuzz ball. She smiles in appreciation, and clips the plastic collar with cushiony bits on the inside, expertly onto my neck, centimeters below the dull ache. She pulls gently on the lead, trying to get me to follow. I sigh in defeat, swearing from then on that I would never tell a soul.
