Return of the Marewolf
Sleepless Night
Load Full StoryNext ChapterSome of us have a voice inside of our heads. Some of those voices are simply figments of our imaginations. Some are more real than others believe.
Fluttershy awoke.
Her ears perked up at the strange sound that had been ringing in her head for a while now.
"Roooo.. Arooooo.. Rooo,"
She had never heard such a thing before. The only sound remotely similar would have to be that of a timberwolf. However, this noise was more melodic, somewhat calming, actually.
Unless you were Fluttershy, of course.
She cringed at the sound. She didn't like strange noises, because strange noises usually weren't good signs. Still, her mind started to wander. What could have made the unfamiliar sound? Why did it make it? Fluttershy decided to find out. So, she set off to find the animal.
Fluttershy stopped right at the border of civilization and the great forest. The sound urged her on.
"Aroooo,"
She gulped, bowing her head in shame as she trodded through the Everfree.
She shivered at the cold winds and the wet moss.
She heard the sound again.
"Arrooooo!
So loud, yet so beautiful. A booming, melodic voice. She'd say it hurt if it weren't so charming, so appealing, so...
Irresistible.
"Arrrroooooo!!!"
And here she was. A silver wolf, smaller than she would have expected. No, this was no timberwolf. It was covered in a matted mass of fur.
It had collapsed on the forest floor and made the pitiful sound. This wolf now took notice of Fluttershy and whimpered.
"Oh my.. are you alright?" She, yes, a she-wolf, answered with a pathetic yip.
"Don't worry, you're...you're safe," Fluttershy said softly.
The wolf suddenly seemed to panic. She shook her head violently and sunk her yellow canines into Fluttershy's foreleg. She then trembled intensely, so quickly it looked almost if she was having a seizure. Then the animal suddenly went limp.
It took a while for Fluttershy to fully process what had just taken place. When she did, though, it hit her as hard as a speeding train. Her head swam. Her eyes welled up with tears. She felt nauseous.
She screamed.
She broke down sobbing at the paws of the magestic animal. "I'm... I'm sorry.. sorry I couldn't help, sorry you had to-" She looked up.
Fluttershy wiped her eyes, with new tears undoing what good her foreleg could do.
She bit her lip, flicking her pale rose tail. She could tell something was amiss.
She panted and shook her head. "Wha... what's happening to-"
She didn't have the chance to say anything more.
When she got back to her humble cottage, she dragged herself right back to bed. However, the pain in both her heart and the now throbbing and bleeding wolf bite prevented her from sleeping that night. She simply closed her eyes hoping, praying that tomorrow would be better, that she could forget what had taken place that night and not have to deal with the agony it brought.
It would not, and she would not.
