Tidal Depths
CHAPTER THREE - Surface Tension
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe lights slowly flickered on. Everything was silent bar a rushing of water outside the building and the sobbing of Choral. Twilight and Apple Jack slowly got up and looked through the glass window in the hatch with the small hopes that there was a sign of the sea ponies who didn't get inside.
“I am sorry Twilight I just don't see em.”
Spoke Apple Jack somberly while holding her hat against her chest in mourning. Both ponies were silent between the wailing cries of the Seapony present, the lamenting song of the other ponies inside could almost be heard across the entire hotel.
It was minutes before Chocmint regained his consciousness and stood up slowly... He approached Choral and wrapped a hoof around her protectively.
“I am sure they found cover, we'll go out and look once the water clears.”
He spoke with nothing but reassurance.
Apple Jack spoke with twilight before getting up and heading down the halls to look for the others.
Across the building Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash were regaining their senses.
“We need to find every pony!'
Yelled Rainbow dash while helping her pink friend up.
“That wave was huge!”
Pinkie wasn't in her pinkerific mood though, she knew something was wrong due to her pinkie senses and they were going off like crazy. The two ponies charged down the halls, swerving corners until they saw Fluttershy sitting at the window still. Rarity was lying on the ground unconscious and tears were felling from the yellow pony's eyes.
“F-...Fluttershy?”
Questioned Pinkie who couldn't fathom why her friend wasn't looking after Rarity. A sobbing squeaking noise poured out of Fluttershy's mouth as she couldn't find the words to speak in response.
“What is it Fluttershy?!”
Resounded Rainbow before her eyes drifted to look outside the window at the black murk. She slunk forward towards the pane before suddenly a glassy eyed face of a sea pony slammed against the window staring at them. She screamed in somewhat horror in response.
“The sea ponies are still out there?!”
“There's something w-wrong..”
Squeaked Pinkie while she gently took Fluttershy away from the window. The sea pony just stared at them through the murk until the black swallowed it and it faded from sight. “We need to find T-twilight!”
Being alone seemed almost frightening in such a strange hotel though Apple Jack took deep breaths to hide her nerves. The honest pony stopped when she heard an eery tune filling the hall she was in though no pony was in sight.
“Well that is weird.”
Spoke Apple Jack, trotting a little faster at the tune, turning the corner into a hall that was just entirely windows. Apple Jack was nervous at first, though when she thought about it deeply she realized that if the windows weren't reinforced they would have cracked under the wave. As she took a step onto the glass floor she felt a sudden wave of fear similar to the time she first went into the Everfree forest, in fact the trees of seaweed and the dark waters made it look a lot like the Everfree forest. The thin hall made another wave of fear over take her as she slowly took another step inside.
“Apple Jack keep a hold of yourself..”
She whispered.
Without warning there was a bang against the glass wall above her, she fell to the ground hard and her hat slipped over her eyes.
“Land sakes!”
She pushed her hat up and looked above, only to see murky black and flowing strands of seaweed above.
“Strange..”
Apple Jack got up and started running down the hall as her fear got ahead of her when suddenly there was another bang above her followed by a crashing noise. Apple Jack started to panic and the doors at either end of the hall were closing to stem the flood of black water that was entering. She was trapped and the water was rising.
The orange pony took a deep breath while the room flooded with water and once the rushing water stopped she immediately swam for the surface since the hotel wasn't that deep in the water... But it was deep enough. Her lungs burned from lack of oxygen as she neared the surface and when her hoof was about to breach the water she felt something clamp down on her tail. Apple Jack looked down to find a glassy eyed sea pony holding her back she began sinking back below though her Apple Family nature kicked in, she narrowed her eyes and delivered a swift apple buck at it's face, throwing it off her... Apple Jack finally reached the surface and took a deep breath of air, wading toward the shore.
...She felt sick.
Author's Note
This is my first story and as such I know it isn't perfect. I would love to hear what I did right and what I could improve upon. I would prefer constructive over toxic however!
