Chapters "Class," said Ms. Cheeralee, "today we have a new student. This is Bright Lights. She's from Prance." A filly wearing a cloak came towards the class. "Um, hello..." she said in a squeaky voice. "We are so happy to have you here, Bright Lights. Why don't you sit in the empty seat next to Diamond Tiara?" said Cheeralee. Slowly, Bright Lights walked to her desk. When she sat down, the pony in front of her turned around and said loudly, "Hey there! I'm Scootaloo. Wanna be friends?" "Um... sure. Okay," said Bright, softly. "Sweet!" said Scootaloo. "By the way, what's with that cloak? Can't you take it off?" Bright's eyes seemed to widen at that question. "Oh, well... I don't know. Kind of a family thing." "Oh," said Scootaloo, confused.
Argument on the Playground
It was time to go on the playground. Scootaloo walked up to her friends, Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle. "Hi, Scoots!" said Apple Bloom. "Hi, girls. Did you notice something weird about the new girl? She said she's used to wearing the cloak, which I understand, but look at her hooves! They have holes in them! And her voice was odd..." said Scootaloo. "Now, Scootaloo, don't call ponies weird just because they are different!" scolded Sweetie Belle.
"But.. her... hooves..."
"Probably a birth defect."
"And her voice..."
"Maybe it runs in her family."
"Girls, stop arguing!" said Apple Bloom. "Let's just get ready to go back to class." "Ugh. Fine," Scootaloo grunted. I'm gonna figure you out, Bright Lights. she thought.
After school, Scootaloo grabbed a pair of binoculars and followed Bright home. Furiously flapping her wings, she flew up to the window. She listened to the conversation Bright and her family were having, while at the same time looking through the window with the binoculars to her eyes. The voices were kind of muffled, but she could tell what they were saying.
"You didn't take off the cloak, did you?"
"No, mom, I didn't."
"Good. We're going to the market. Let's change."
"'Let's change'? But ponies don't usually wear clothes!" Scootaloo said to herself. Just then, she saw greenish flames around the tree cloaked ponies. They threw off the cloaks, and looked nothing like they did before! They were black, not yellow! And where were the holes she saw in Bright's hooves? Then it hit her.
"A changeling?!?!"
"Bright, don't do this!" Scootaloo shouted. "I must. I'm a changeling. It's what I'm supposed to do!" Bright said. "Bright, listen to me. I know that your a changeling, but that doesn't mean you need to attack ponies because they are afraid! Just do what your heart wants to do!" said Scootaloo "I told you, I'm a CHANGELING! I have no heart!" Bright said. "It may not seem like you have a heart, but you really DO! You just need to realize that, when you listen to your heart, great things can happen, or not! It's up to YOU!" Bright stopped. She just stood there, breathing heavily. She began to tear up. "Your right. What am I doing?" she said, and finally she returned to her normal self. She sighed quietly. "Thank you, Scootaloo," she said softly. She looked up to her. "Thank you for helping me realize I'm more than a heartless beast." The two fillies hugged and volunteered to clean up the mess, together.
The attack was over. Bright Light was taught a valuable lesson. The mess was cleaned up. There was one thing left to do.
"Hey, you know, that was really awesome." said Scootaloo. "Really? You think that was... awesome?" asked Bright Light. "Yeah! Coolest thing I've ever seen! Hey, can I ask you a question?" said Scootaloo. Bright nodded.
"Do you want to be a Cutie Mark Crusader?"
"What's that?"
"It's a team dedicated to helping ponies, or in your case changelings, earn their cutie marks!"
"That sounds cool!"
"So will you join?"
"Heck yeah!"
"So meet us tomorrow at the tree house?" asked Apple Bloom. "Sure."
"This is our tree house!" said Sweetie Belle. "This is where we take role call, that's where we eat lunch, and sometimes we stand over there and come up with great ideas." said Apple Bloom. "Cool!" said Bright. "So, what'cha wanna do now?" asked Scootaloo. "I don't know, but I have a feeling whatever it is, it's gonna be great!"
She took a photo of what happened to show her class the next day.
"Everypony, I have to tell you something! This is very important!" Everyone listened closely. "Bright Lights is a changeling! And I can prove it!" She held up the picture she took. One colt yelled out, "Boo! That's fake!" Everypony agreed. "Don't belive me, huh? let me show you!" she said, running up to Bright. Scootaloo put one hoof on her cloak, and gently yanked it off. Everyone gasped. Then Sweetie Belle yelled out, "EVERYPONY HIDE!!!!!!" Bright Lights was angered. "Oh, so just cause I'm a changeling means I'm bad?! Well I'll show you bad!" she yelled out, spreading her hole-filled wings. The same greenish flames Scootaloo saw surrouned the changeling filly. She instantly became larger, with bigger wings and more power than your average princess! Her horn glowed a light green and the same color fire surrounded the class.
