The Sweetest Apple on the Tree
Chapter 1: First Impressions
My alarm clock awoke me abruptly, causing me to groan with annoyance. I rubbed my eyes, then threw my fist at the alarm clock, sending it off the nightstand and onto the ground where it turned off. I then slowly switched to a sitting position on my bed, looking around sleepily. I then decided to stand, grabbed my jeans, t-shirt that had white stripes going around it like a candy-cane which was quite shabby, and my golden aviators. I then walked to the shower and set my clothes on the rim of the sink, locked the door behind me, and stripped down until I was completely naked, then I quickly stepped into the shower and turned on the hot water.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" I yelled out, jumping to the edge of the shower, but slipping and sliding back to the ice cold water. I then just curled up into a ball till the water got warm. When it did, I was fully awake and technically clean, so I turned off the shower and dried myself off with a towel then slid into my school clothes.
After my little mishap, I wasn't surprised to find my mom waiting for me outside of the bathroom with deadpan look on her face. "You forgot to wait for the water to get warm, didn't you?"
I sighed, "Yeah, I did, but you can't really blame me for being so damn tired!" I replied, yawning and made my way to the living-room, sitting down on the couch. "I really am tired though, mum." I stated, yawning.
"Well then, you should probably stop working on your car all night, Steven." She replied from the bathroom. I rolled my eyes, folding my arms while I waited for my mom so I could say goodbye.
When she came out, I stood up and made my way over to my room, where I grabbed my backpack. I then grabbed my phone, stuffing it into my pocket and making my way back out into the living-room. I stopped as I passed the bathroom, looking into the mirror from the hallway; I noticed that I had finally gotten a patchy beard, which was pretty cool to me. I looked at my black hair and saw that one hair was standing straight up, so I flattened it out. Speaking of which, my hair was styled into a Fauxhawk, pointing straight forward. I smiled, happy with the way I looked, but frowned as I knew I was forgetting something. I snapped my fingers, running to my bedroom and grabbing my goggles for when I work, then quickly putting them around my neck where they hung loosely. Better show the kids at school what I look to do!
I then quickly slid into the living-room, looking at my mom with a confident smile, "How do I look?"
My mom smiled, walking over to me and giving me a hug, "Great, now you better get to school or else you'll come home to an angry father."
I looked at a clock that hung on the wall, "It's only seven-thirty, mum, I've got nothing to worry about."
Mom chuckled, "Yeah, I know, but your dad wanted you to be there by three thirty-five, so hustle!"
My eyes widened, and I ran to the garage to my car. "Loveyoumumbye!" I yelled back to my mom who only chuckled and went to get whatever moms get.
As I entered the garage, I stopped and stared in awe at my modified car. I couldn't really see it in the dark of night, and I was really tired last night so I didn't really process the what I had created. It was beautiful.
I pulled the keys out of my pocket and pulled out the keys, running over to the driver's side and getting in. I then put the keys into the ignition, turning them and listening to the sweet sound of a revving engine. After a moment or two of revving the engine, I hopped out, opened the garage door, got back in and drove out into the street, drifting. I'd always wanted to do that... and my dad said drifting isn't safe. Pfft, he doesn't understand how much fun it is.
I decided to not do anymore drifts and followed the speed limit the whole way to school; don't want to get pulled over the first time driving my dream car.
Canterlot High
I slowly drove my Mustang into the parking lot, smirking at the looks the other students had on their faces. As I pulled into one of the parking spots, I noticed one girl staring at me in awe; she had blonde hair with a stetson hat covering her head. She also wore a skirt that had an apple as a belt buckle, and her skirt only went down to her knees. Her skin was also a light tan. She made eye contact with me, but I quickly looked away, blushing slightly. I will not lie, she was pretty cute.
As I pulled the keys out of the ignition and got out of the car, I noticed that she was walking over to me with a friendly smile. I quickly grabbed my backpack and slung it over my shoulder, turning and leaning on my car door.
"Howdy, partner!" She said happily, "Ah'm Applejack, what's yours?"
She held out her hand, and I shook it. "I'm Steven Hammer, nice to meet you."
She smiled jokingly, "Nice tah meet a new face every now and again." I looked at her with a confused expression, "Anyways, ah'm here to give you a tour of the school!"
I smirked, nodding to her, "Let's get to it, then!"
She then gave me the grand tour of the rather large school, starting with the basics; classrooms. They had plenty of them, and some extra ones like Auto-shop; not an actual shop, but a place where you either learn how to fix a car or just edit your own. The teacher was Mrs. Spring who had her hair in a bun, along with wearing a very formal dress. No idea why, I mean it is a class where you'll get dirty.
Anywho, Applejack proceeded to the cafeteria where I met her grandma, Miss Smith, who's the lunch-lady.
I then heard the bell ring, and looked down to a slip I had held in my hands that told me which classes I had and where to find them. First class... MATH?! Ugh...
Turns out that math was nearby, right behind a door that read, 'Room 3B'. I looked up to Applejack, "Gotta go, got classes to go to." She nodded, walking to her class. I turned to the door that led to math class, sighing. I then pushed it open, taking in the room; the teachers was roughly six feet away from the entrance, and windows were at the opposite side of the room. The desks were moderately large, allowing two students to sit at each one, and there was fifteen.
There was an empty spot right next to a pink-haired girl, while the rest seemed to be taken. So I made my way over to her, and as she saw me she tried to hide behind her long hair. I pulled the chair back, sitting in it and giving the girl a confused expression.
I took a glance at the teacher, who was currently teaching about exponents, and turned back to the girl. "Nice to meet you, my name's Steven. What's yours?"
She let out an 'eep', looking away. "F-Fluttershy."
"Nice to meet you, Fluttershy." I whispered, facing the front of the class. I'll admit, I've been in this predicament where someone I don't know sits next to me, and I try to not make eye-contact. Or speak to them for that matter.
Speaking of girls, I think I'm falling in love with that Applejack girl. Aw yeah, that build; muscular in almost every way. I wonder if she likes me, but does she know that I like her? Nah, she can't, I'm too... me.
"Ahem." The teacher cleared his throat, giving me an expectant look, same with everyone else.
"What?" I asked, looking at everyone's expressions.
The teacher smiled, "Please come to the front of the class and tell the class your name."
I shrugged, doing as asked. As I reached the front of the class, I put my hands behind my back and smiled to the rest of the class. "Hello, my name's Steven Hammer, but please call me Wrench." I then clasped my hands together. "Questions?"
One of the students raised their hand, "Why do you wear those goggles around your neck? Shouldn't they be covering your eyes?"
I smirked, "That's the question I was looking for. I wear these goggles 'cause it shows what I like to do the most; automation."
"What's that?" The same student asked.
"It's production, repairs, or replacements done to anything mechanical. And for me, specifically motorcycles, cars, or even trucks." I replied, "Anymore?"
One more student raised their hand, which was Fluttershy. "Are you... um, nice?"
I chuckled, "Of course I am, unless someone's rude to me, that is."
"That's enough questions for now." The teacher said, causing the class to groan.
I looked at the teacher with a smirk, "Come on, teach, at least let me answer one more question."
The teacher took a glance down at me, then back to the students. Then a small smile formed on his face, "Fine, one more."
I then turned back to the class, seeing all their hands up. "You!" I pointed to a pink-haired lady, who excitedly stood up.
"What was it like at your old school?" She asked, and I sighed.
"Wasn't as good as here, but I went with it." The pink-haired lady sat back down, and I walked back to my seat. Since math is my first period, might as well get used to it.
Thirty Minutes Later
I awoke to the sound of the bell ringing, to which I quickly stood up and made my way to the next class, which was Auto-shop! YES! Finally!
I happily made my way to the Auto-shop, smiling the whole time. This was the second time I've ever gone to another Auto-shop. Last time was when I went to Las Pegasus, but it didn't look as cool at first glance. The one here had its own little building, for one thing, while the other didn't. To put it simply; I can make as much noise as I want without having teachers next door yelling at me.
Once I reached the building, I swiftly pushed the door open!
Which hit somebody and that person fell over with a shout of surprise.
I looked down, an embarrassed smile on my face. "Oops, sorry dude, didn't see you there."
The guy looked back up at me, a small smile on his face. "It's alright, it's alright." He got up, and brushed his red jacket off, looking back at me. He was a few inches shorter than me and had light brown hair. Under his red jacket was a grey shirt and his pants were blue like the everyone else's. He stuck out his hand, a smile on his face, "You're obviously new to the school, my name is Grit. What's yours?"
I firmly shook his hand, "Steven Hammer, but call me Wrench. Nice to meet you too, by the way." I let go of his hand, looking inside the classroom. "Class in session or am I here on time?"
He smirked, "Dude, you're like, three minutes early." He then walked around me and started walking towards the main school, whistling a tune I didn't know of.
I turned and went into the room, a grin on my face. I then sat in the seat closest to me and leaned in the chair. I waited for class to start, looking at the clock. Two minutes. I sighed, throwing my head back in boredom.
"Alright, class," The teacher started, standing up from her chair, "We have a new student today, so say hi." The class listened, a lot of the "Hi"s were less than enthusiastic, but I was sure they'd warm up to me eventually. The teacher was satisfied with the students' responses, and politely asked me to sit down.
I smirked, leaning back in my chair. This class was going to be easy. Besides, I'm sure I can score some points by showing off my work.
Ten Minutes Later
I slid out from under a car, my face covered with black dust. I took in a deep breath of fresh air, removing my goggles from my eyes and sitting up.
"Yo, how's it looking down there, Wrench?" Grit asked, stopping to take a look at me through his welding helmet. The teacher had given us all one ugly car along with partners of our choosing. And when I say ugly, I mean, 'It's Uglier Than a Abandoned Shack '. Our job for the next few weeks was to turn the cars into hot-rods.
I gave Grit a thumbs-up, standing up and stretching. "I'm doing good so far, it's ugly down there." I turned to Grit, who was welding some things onto the car. "How's your job doing?" I covered my eyes as he turned on his welder and placed it against a piece of metal.
"Good, as long as I don't mess up." He then set the piece of metal against the car, and began welding it to the vehicle. "This thing is fucking ugly bro. It's like someone got flamethrower and began burning this thing." He stopped what he was doing and petted the car sadly, "Poor thing didn't stand a chance."
I chuckled, "Don't get sentimental with the car, it's still dead." He looked at me, lifting his welding mask and he mockingly glared at me. I chuckled again, "Don't worry, Doctor Wrench is on the job." I got back onto the Creeper, which is what mechanics call the skateboard-like thing, and slid back under the car.
I heard Grit laugh, and I got back to work, grabbing a screwdriver.
Thirty Minutes Later
The bell rang, to which I got out from under the junk car and began putting things away. With Grit's help, it didn't take long, but when we were finished, he grabbed his stuff and began running towards the cafeteria.
I, however, took my time. It's not like we only have five minutes to eat food.
I smiled; this is going to be a fun day.
