For Science, Peace, Love and Lust
Twilight trotted back and forth reading a book and mumbling to herself. She had been at this for hours. Coming to a halt she transported herself to a little lab she set up for herself. "Spike! Wake up!" She rushed by him making him spin and fall backwards.
"Whoa! Hey what's going on? Are we under attack again?" Spike scurried after her. He watched as she mixed several ingredients together in different containers. "What's all that?"
Mixing all the ingredients and reciting separate incantations for each one she then put them down. "Spike, remember how Trixie had all this power to change ponies from old to young and back again?" She glanced at him, just to see him nod. "Well remember how I faked turning Applejack into a stallion to trick her into thinking I had more power than her?"
Spike thought back to the event. "Yeah I remember, Big Mac was painted to look like her. What about it?" He stared at the mixtures changing colors.
"Well, I found a spell on how to change a mare into a stallion and vice versa, but for real. A lot of unicorns have tried it and failed, but I figured that because I'm an alicorn now, I should have enough magic to pull it off. I've also modified some things." She brought the mixtures together and poured them into another container she proceeded to shake. "Whoever created this spell had some dangerous ingredients listed that had no purpose. But they were on the right track, brilliant for their time. I wish I could talk to them and maybe discuss further how to better it, but time travel is not something I want to get mixed up in again."
Watching her pour the contents into twelve bottles Spike noted that it had no scent. "Hey Twilight, how come there is no smell?" He loved watching her make potions and asking her questions, it made him feel like more than just a house maid.
Setting six vials to the left and the others to the right, she casted a spell on each set. "That would be because of the spells I casted earlier, it would have been real foul smelling and i don't think either one of would have been able to stomach it. You should start to smell two different scents in a moment though."
Just as she had said, he could smell two different scents coming from the potions. The liquids inside were changing from purple to blue and pink. He gagged at the stench coming from the blue vials. "That's gross! Do you have to drink that?" He pinched his nose and turned away from it. Letting go he was drawn to the sweet scent coming out of the pink vials. "That smells nice." He reached a claw up to take one, but Twilight smacked it away.
Twilight scolded him telling him it could be dangerous for him. "The spell was meant for ponies, not baby dragons. I don't know what it would do to you. Plus it's supposed to change your gender, do you want to be a female dragon Spike?" Twilight moved the vials out of his reach. "Now do me a favor and get the girls."
Spike groaned at his orders. "Yeah, yeah, I'm on it." He kicked the grounded and headed out, but was stopped before he was all the way out the door. "Now what?"
Twilight smiled at him. "Thanks for helping Spike. When you get back I have a bowl of gems waiting for you next to your bed."
On that note he gave her a quick hug and ran out in excitement.
Once he was gone she began setting up charts for each of her friends, including herself. She was going to track all side effects and changes. If she managed to pull this off it would bring her one step closer to being like some of equestria's most powerful wizards. It would also mean that same se couples could have children of their own and reverse the spell to be normal again. Ponies who wanted to change and have families could also use the spell. "If this works it'll help so many ponies!" She could barely keep her excitement in.
A few hours passed and Spike came back panting. "They... They're here." The little dragon had exhausted himself trying to find them all and rally them up.
Twilight used her magic to place him on her back to rest. "Thanks Spike." She let him rest then trotted over to her friends waiting for her. "Thanks for coming. I know you guys are probably wondering what's going on, so I'll just get to it. I found a spell on how to change a mare to a stallion." She beamed excitedly at them.
Rainbow was the first to speak. "You're joking? I thought that wasn't possible! Even you needed to use smoke and tricks to 'change' AJ!" She didn't believe her and laughed like it was a joke. When nopony else was laughing she calmed down and looked at Twilight confused. "Wait, you mean for real? You can do that?"
Twilight nodded at her ignorant friend. "Yes, I'm serious. I've been researching it for a while and no it's not impossible, not anymore. One pony was able to do it a long time ago, but there was no record of how, since then there have only been guesses. The book of spells I found says that it's the closest they've gotten to pulling it off. It had very strange side effects though. I changed some things after reading it and I think I've figured it out."
Applejack step forward this time. "What do you mean you think you figured it out? You don't know?" Concern grew on her face.
"Well, that's the thing. I haven't actually gotten a chance to test it out yet. I was hoping you guys being my best friends, you would help me in my experiment and maybe go down in history as being the first to succeed in this spell and help other ponies?" She batted her eyelashes at them and gave them puppydog eyes.
Fluttershy caved in an instant, followed by an excited Pinkie Pie who wanted to be her assistant. Pinkie had to convince Rainbow Dash, but after that Rarity and Applejack gave in against their better judgements.
Rarity walked over and looked at the potions. "Alright so what do we do Darling? Just drink these silly little things?" She used her magic to levitate a vial holding the pink potion.
"They're not silly, but yes. Three of you are going to be drinking the pink potions while the other three, myself included, will drink the blue potions. I'm not one hundred percent sure of the outcomes so I've made some sheets for us to fill out. So once you pick you vial drink it and then don't forget to fill these out." She passed out charts to each of them. "Because I changed it there's no way of knowing what side effects there will be or what changes will occur. So whatever you think is related to the potion I'm going to need you to write down on here."
After she finished giving instructions they split the potions up amongst themselves. Twilight, Rainbow Dash and Applejack drank from the blue vials while Rarity, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy took from the pink vials. They waited there for several hours while Twilight monitored them. After absolutely no change she apologized and sent them all home.
Spike watched her clean up and put the vials in the fridge. "It's alright Twilight, I'm sure you'll get it right next time." He tried to cheer her up.
Twilight sighed, but appreciated his efforts. "Thanks Spike, but I just don't get it. That should have worked. I guess I'm still not powerful enough to pull it off, even now that I'm an alicorn. Tomorrow is another day though right? I'll figure it out then. Goodnight Spike." She nuzzled him then trotted off to her quarters.
Once the coast was clear Spike headed over to the fridge. The aroma coming from the pink vials was strong and filled his nose with the scent of chocolate and strawberries. Licking his lips and drooling a bit he stared at them. "She won't mind if I just taste one. I mean they didn't even work so there should be no risk right?" He reasoned with himself before taking a vial and drinking it. It was sweet and made him feel full so he went to bed.
