When Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer travel back to Starlight's village, planning to throw a Hearth's Warming Eve party there, they are interrupted by a traveler asking for help. However, their help may end up serving a sinister character.

Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer help their friends around Ponyville to set up for Hearth's Warming Eve when Starlight realizes that the ponies back at her village probably don't know or have forgotten about the holiday. The two travel back and rejoin with Sugar Belle and the rest of the town. After Starlight reconciles and rebuilds her relationship with the other ponies, Twilight and Starlight throw a successful Hearth's Warming Eve party. But just when the celebration livens and the other ponies grow comfortable with Starlight, a mysterious stallion interrupts asking for help.

Introducing himself as Raider in private, he asks for help finding three criminals who have gone undercover in the nearby town of Tanner Cliffs. Twilight, Sugar Bell, and her friends all oblige but Starlight isn't sure; after all, Starlight does know about the town, its ponies, and what they did to her village over a year ago. Starlight dreads the story of the three criminals to the point where Twilight and the others question if she is hiding something.
