The Christmas Crowd
The Stinging Truth
Previous ChapterCelestia walked after Vinyl who sploshed into the jacuzzi. Discord and Vinyl started having short banter as Octavia laughed at the inside jokes that Celestia didn't get.
Celestia ignored Vinyl. She was already where she wanted to be. She didn't need the stupid earth pony anymore. She strode regally over to Chrysalis who snickered as Celestia approached her.
"So? What do you want?", Chrysalis asked her politely, but also in a child-like manner.
"Can we just have a serious talk here? Right now, please? With no video games or beanbags or anything?"
"Serious? Christmas doesn't do serious, Celestia! Only you do!"
Celestia narrowed her eyes, as if forcing the Queen to speak to her in a royal meeting fashion.
"Fine".
The snacks were cleared off the table. And by cleared, I mean Vinyl ate them all. The plates were taken by the Highness' servants to be washed after the party. Everyone in the room was now sitting at the table with Celestia. Except Coloratura who needed to leave early for Manehatten.
"Let's get this over with, Celestia...", Chrysalis shrugged as she hoisted herself up a seat groggily.
"Alright", Celestia agreed, "Explain everything. Explain how you turned my subjects against me. Explain how my prized pupil seems to dislike me. And explain how you got my sister to muster up the courage to talk to a stallion! This must be the use of some sort of Dark Magic, and I can put you under arrest for such an atrocious thing!"
"You're so Jelly, Celly", Chrysalis giggled.
"I am not Jell- jealous! I'm doing my duty as the Queen of Equestria!"
"Celestia. The only Queen here is me. You're just a princess. You'll never be Queen like me. No, I'm being honest. Why in Tartarus are you being called a Princess? That's like... It's not correct, though..."
"I know that already, ok? If you're using dark magic, just tell me. I know you want to be loved, and even though you can never ever be loved, you still want to. Dark magic is not the way to go about this. I can teach you. Join me. I'll take you under my wing. The Magic of Friendship is still in you. I can feel it..."
Chrysalis looked at Celestia wide-eyed and confused for awhile before bursting out in laughter and absolute hilarity, "OOOOO Chrysalis I can feel it! The MAGIC of FRIENDSHIP is still in you! BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAA!".
Celestia's face turned bright red as she watched Chrysalis laugh... and laugh... and laugh... and...laugh.
"OH GOSH! OH! I bet I broke, like, five ribs! OH GOSH! I'm crying!"
"OH STOP IT, WILL YOU!", Celestia shouted, "Just tell me how to throw Christmas parties as good as you!"
Chrysalis immediately stopped laughing and regained her composure.
"This is just pitiful", Chrysalis said blatantly, "You're so bad at hosting Christmas parties that Luna's flirting is better than your hosting!"
Celestia nearly cried at such a snarky, malicious comment.
"Nonetheless, nonetheless", Chrysalis continues, "I will help you become great at party-hosting!"
Chrysalis gave a long hard thought. She whispered to Discord, Octavia and Vinyl as if coming up with the perfect party-hosting guide for Celestia's use. Finally, the group turned their heads back to Celestia. All with serious looks on their face, except Discord who had a huge smile which forced his lower eyelids to move upwards slightly.
"Okay Tia. The only way for someone as noobish as you to throw a good party is to cast a Party Animal-"
*Snort*
"Discord, shut up. As I was saying, you need to cast a Party Animal spell. The only way to do so is to crack an-"
*Squeal* *Snort*
"-egg... And mix it with dragon saliva. You can get that from Spike, I guess-"
*Snort, snort, snort* *Hiccup*
"Discord. What the Tartarus, man. Shut up. Ugh, Mix the egg with the dragon saliva and Everfree tree sap... Okay. And dump it all over your head"
*Snort* *Chuckle*
Celestia looked at the crew for a while until she finally mustered up the courage to speak, "Okay..."
"HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!"
Chrysalis looked to Discord, irritated, she screamed, "ARGH! Discord! You spoiled it! Now she's not gonna do it!"
"I'M SORRY! I CAN'T STOP! THE FACT SHE....SHE ACTUALLY... AGREED!!!!"
Celestia looked at the group offended. "ENOUGH!". She slammed her hoof on the table until Discord stopped laughing and looked at the Queen, partially in confusion, and partially in fear. "I'm sick and tired of you guys treating this matter lightly! I'm the Queen of Equestria! I'm supposed to throw better parties than you! You're just... just another Changeling! You're awful and heartless! Look how you've humiliated me!!!1!!one"
Chrysalis looked at Celestia. Cheeks red, and tears in her eyes. "Heartless... awful... cruel... evil... I've been called that enough!" Chrysalis stood up to the, now also standing, Celestia. "I'm not heartless! I'm not Awful! I'M NOT EVIL! YOU ARE! You starved my kingdom when all we wanted was love! You know all too well that you have enough love the power all of Equestria! You steal kingdoms from people to fulfill your own selfish needs of ruling over the entire world! Why is it that you have to be great at everything! I've got something for myself, and I intend to keep it that way! PARTYING IS MINE! MINE! Just face the fact that you'll never host a party as great as-"
"TELL ME HOW TO PARTY OR I WILL BANISH YOU TO THE MOON FOR ETERNITY!"
The other guests looked at the two Royal mares, who were now standing on the table, looking at each other as if they were going to slit each others throats.
"Now, now..l-l-ladies... Let's not fight over such a problem."
"FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, SHUT UP DISCORD!", Celestia screamed.
Discord traced his finger over his lip, creating a zip with prevented him from speaking.
"You want to know the real reason people don't show up to your parties?", Chrysalis asked. Celestia could detect the negativity in her voice alone. She flinched slightly, but nodded her head.
"Because of you".
Celestia opened her eyes and looked at Chrysalis. Tears rested in her greenish eyes. Her mane was frizzled. And her ears were upright, as if she were about to lunge at Celestia.
Celestia on the other hand, was a mess. Tears streamed like waterfalls from her face, her hooves quivered with anxiety and embarrassment.
"You don't have boring parties, Celestia. You have a boring you. You may be the Queen of all Equestria, but you're also the most boring mare in all of Equestria. You're also the meanest. The harshest. The laziest. Don't you see, now? Why everyone hates you? They hate you for being you! And it just so happens that they love me for being me. You've got some issues, Princess. Some real, heavy, issues. And you need to stop living in your own world where you're loved by everyone. Because you're not. And as for your parties, you seem to seep your personality into the atmosphere, which is actually how parties work. You express yourself through the art and fun...ness... of your parties. That's why we, the Christmas Crowd, are well-advised in partying. We have flourishing, interesting personalities. You are indifferent from every other prissy Princess out there. And yet somehow, you're worse..."
Celestia climbed off the table and sat soundly in her seat. She looked down and realized that most of what Chrysalis said was true. She looked to Vinyl who, instead of being rowdy and energy-filled, was now looking at her reflection in the glass table, feeling some sort of guilt for bringing Celestia to meet Chrysalis.
Discord looked to Celestia. A proud smirk on his face. He noticed that all this time, Celestia had never known how terrible she was. And now it had finally been revealed to her.
Octavia rested her face on her hooves and her elbows on the table. Trying to deny the fact that Celestia was not the great mare she thought her to be. But the tears in her eyes which trailed from her hooves to the table showed that being in denial was not working.
Chrysalis closed her eyes, breathing in deeply, and then breathing out heavily. She ignored as Celestia walked out the door.
The rest of the ponies who were partying in the garden were having the time of their lives. They were truly enjoying themselves without her. Maybe it was true that ponies only enjoy themselves when she's not around.
Celestia felt a hoof on her back and a soft voice saying, "It's okay, Tia".
She turned around expecting to see Luna, but instead saw Vinyl, resting her hoof between Celestia's shoulder blades.
"Not now Vinyl", Celestia said as she shoved the earth pony away from herself. She walked out the gates of the Hive with a slow, guilty walk. All the pride she used to carry with her had washed out into the floors of the Hive.
Celestia entered the dining hall to find Luna crying and eating an over-fried omelette.
"Oh, go away, Tia! There's no need to make fun of me in the state I'm in... Carry on tomorrow".
Celestia shut the dining hall door and prodded up the long winding stairs, all the way to her bedroom, where she climbed into bed and sat there. Unable to sleep for hours.
And this is what happened when Celestia met the Christmas Crowd...
