I am the Wanderer
Explanations and explosions.
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIt felt like hours, staring at the woman in front of me. I didn't know how to feel. Happy to see an old friend or worried about my new relationship with Twilight.
Pushing those thoughts to the back of my mind, I shook my head and looked back at Dead Eye. I could tell she still could only look through one eye, seeing that her left eye has more pigmentation that the right.
“What are you doing here?” I asked her. She looked at me and then at Twilight.
“I was just about to ask you the same thing.” She said, crossing her arms.
“I live here. Now you answer.” I said. She sighed and looked down.
“I've lost control of them, Steel.” She said. My blood ran cold from hearing those words. How could she..
“My/Your sister.” We both said. Gods fucking damnit, the bitch doesn't stay dead, doesn't she!?
“Come on, we'll speak more inside.” I said as I carried Twilight inside the castle with Dead Eye following behind.
“Why is that you look like you haven't aged?” Dead asked me as we turned through a corner.
“Cryo stasis.” I answered. She got the hint and stayed quiet throughout the entire walk.
Placing Twilight in her bed, tucking her in and leaving the room quietly, didn't stop me from worrying.
Closing the door behind me and letting a torrent of blue fire consume me, I saw my fur change into chitin. The chitin around my body look like as if I was wearing armor under my clothes.
Once the fire dispersed, I looked at the changeling in front of me.
“Start from the beginning.” I said to her, earning a nod from her.
Morning
Morning came around rather quickly, that or I might've just stayed up all night repeatedly hitting myself on the wall. I can't remember but I'm sure it was the latter.
Chrysalis, that's what Dead eye goes by nowadays, had an older sister but a trip down the Long fifteen, separated them. And I'm sure being shot in the head and losing almost all of her memory didn't help the case.
When we finally found her, she didn't go by her old name but by Ulysses. Of course I pointed out that it was a stallion's name, only to get shot in the arm.
We scoured Big M.T, Sierra Madre and Zion canyon to look for her. We've suffered hell going through each and every one of them.
Big M.T was no exception. Not only did they stole some of our organs and replaced them with robot ones, but they had also mutated us into Changelings or as they liked to call us, Lobotomites.
Because of their massive amount of failures, they had treated us like mindless animals. Until I killed one of them.
Sierra Madre, a hell on Terra. The place was covered in a deadly red fog, breath too much of it and you can kiss your ass goodbye.
Getting off track, Me and Chris finally caught up with Ulysses as she was about to launch two nuclear warheads on New Vegas.
Killing her was like killing any other raider for me, but for Chrysalis, she was heartbroken. Seeing her sister die was hard for her but it had to be done.
Now here's where the Big M.T comes in. Apparently Ulysses knew that she would die and had transferred her self conscious into a Lobotomite.
“When is she going to strike?” I asked, feeling rage build up inside me. I can't live normally can't I!?
“Today, and in large numbers.” Chrysalis answered as she brought me a stimpack.
I took the stimpack and injected it, feeling the pain fade away in a matter of seconds. I was then covered in the blue flames again, this time leaving me like I was all those years ago.
I sighed as I saw the steel grey fur on my arm.
“You know, I never meant for it to be this way.” I heard Chrysalis say behind me. Turning my head slightly, waiting for her to elaborate.
“All this I mean.” She gestured at me and herself.
“I know, yet you kept blaming yourself.” I said to her.
“You know if I never found out about Ulysses, none of this would've happened and we would still be normal.” She said. I snorted at that.
“Normal? When has anything been normal?” I asked. She stayed silent.
I then heard the sound of hoof steps heading to the throne room. I looked at Chrysalis and saw her nod with a hint of fear. The doors opened and Twilight came through.
“Good morning, Twilight.” I said her with a small smile. She was still very tired from the look of her eyes. That soon changed after looking at Chrysalis for five minutes.
“W-w-what is she doing here!?” Twilight shouted with a bit of a slur at the start. She charged up her magic but stopped as she saw Chrysalis flinch.
“She's not here with ill-intentions. She need help and I'll gladly help an old friend.” I said to her.
“You're friends with her?” She said. I nodded at her.
“We've been friends since the Mojave.” Chrysalis said. I sighed as Twilight began to think a little before looking back at me with the face realization.
“She's…” She said, not able to finish her sentence.
“Yes, I am but I go by Chrysalis now. First, I want to apologize for what I did to Cadenza and your brother, along with the attack on Canterlot.” Chrysalis said, bowing at Twilight.
“And the second?” Twilight asked.
“I need help. My sister has taken over the hive and is now marching this way as we speak.” Chrys said as I walked out of the room.
Passing by Dogmeat through the hallway, he started following me, knowing that it's time for work. I needed to get to the Vault and get my things before anything else happens.
Twilight Sparkle
I heard the large doors open and close as I listened to Chrysalis. I didn't feel right, here I am standing in front of Chrysalis as she was requesting help from me, just knowing that she's Dead Eye worries me.
What if she still loved Steel Breaker? What if Steel still loved her!? I was taken out of my thoughts as I felt somepony shake me around.
“Sparkle!” Chrysalis shouted as she shook me around. I shook my head as she let go of my shoulders.
“Sorry, I-”
“Was thinking about Steel and me weren't you?” She asked. I nodded, shamefully. Her reaction was not one that I expected from her.
She laughed as if I told the most funniest joke ever for three minutes. She stopped and looked at me again before bursting out laughing again.
I spent the next ten minutes waiting in my throne for her to stop. When she did, she wiped a tear away from her eye.
“Hehe, I'm not interested in being with him anymore. As handsome and smart he is, we went our separate ways and through a week of thinking, maybe we weren't meant for each other.” She said, still laughing.
“So, you're sister holds a grudge against Steel?” I asked her. She nodded, finally calmed down.
“Yes, in fact these whole changeling thing was her fault.” She said, muttering the last part to herself.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked. She looked at me, realizing her mistake. She then sighed.
“The reason we are even here in this world is because of Steel and my sister, Ulysses. My sister always thought that by allowing another bombing with the few warheads would heal the world just as it destroyed it. Steel wanted to heal the world but in his way, bringing a new world along with it while my sister still believed that the Old World will prevail.” She explained. I was confused by this, what did all this have to do with changelings.
“We-we weren't born Changelings, we were mutated.” She stated in a darker tone.
“Before Chrysalis, I was Dead Eye, a pegasus courier of the Mojave. It was normal day, receiving a package I needed delivered and then get paid.”
Mojave Wasteland
I was supposed to deliver a very important package, a poker chip made of platinum. I had stopped by a small settlement named Good Springs for the night.
So I had rented a room for the night in the local bar, it did cost me almost all my caps but a bed is a bed right? Anyway, I was then kidnapped-
“Don't you mean Foalnapped?” I asked her, interrupting her.
“No, I mean kidnapped. Unlike you ponies, I'm not discriminating others.” She answered with a glare. I chuckled awkwardly, knowing Steel does it too.
“Can I continue?” She asked. I nodded to her.
Mojave Wasteland
As I was saying, I was Kidnapped and dragged to the nearby cemetery with a sack over my head.
When I regained consciousness, I had overheard a conversation from my captors.
“You got what you were after, so pay up.” A gruff voice said.
“You're crying in the rain, pally.” A suave voice said. Just by his voice, I knew that man was a prick.
By this time, one of them took off the bag from my head. I shook my head as I regained my vision.
“Guess who's waking up over here?” I looked over to the owner and saw that he was a minotaur.
I looked at the rest of them, seeing a stallion in Khan armor and a griffin with a checkered jacket.
“Time to cash out.” The griffin said as he threw his cigarette on the floor and put it out with his foot.
“Would you get it over with?” The Minotaur said.
“Maybe Khans kill people without looking them in the face, but I ain't a fink, dig?” The griffin said to me as he pulled out the same platinum chip I had to deliver.
“You've made your last delivery kid.” The griffin said with a smug look. He then placed the chip in his pocket and pulled out a weapon.
“Sorry you got twisted up in this scene.” I growled at him as he pointed his 9mm pistol at me.
“From where you're kneeling it must seem like an 18-carat run of bad luck. Truth is...the game was rigged from the start.” With that said, he pulled the trigger and the world went dark.
“And that's how I lost my memories. The only thing I could remember was my job and the griffin that shot me.” Chrysalis finished explaining.
“But...how did you become a changeling?” I asked her.
“Someone did this to me, I-I don't like to talk about it.” She said, now avoiding eye contact.
I was about to apologize but a loud explosion was heard and the ground shook with great intensity.
Me and Chrysalis ran outside as well as other ponies around town and saw a mushroom cloud the size of the Everfree castle coming from the forest.
I could see that Chrysalis was afraid, she took a step back as she muttered out incoherently.
I could only hope that Steel was okay.
Author's Note
Soryy it took so long, I got lazy and when I got over being lazy, I got writers and after that was good ol' fashioned procrastination.
