Getting to know Steel

PoV: Steel Breaker
Location: Castle Friendship, Twilight’s science lab
Time: 3:00 P.M

“So you walked towards the hospital with a, what was it called again?” Twilight asked as she looked up from her notes. She put on a lab coat and safety goggles while she dragged me here.

“A flamethrower." I said to her. She wrote it down as as I sat there, tied up against my will.

“You know, back where I'm from, this is punishable by death.” I said to her, making her realize she's gone too far.

“Sorry, it's just, the thing on your wrist could help with our society's technology to advance.” She said as her magic dispersed, letting me go.

“Bad idea, if those notes go out to the public, scientist will start to develop weapons, and then other countries are going to start a political riot on something, resulting in the creation of the Atomic bombs, thus repeating the cycle of the great war, and I for one, do not want to live in the wasteland again." I said as I rubbed my wrists.

“What do you mean by repeat the cycle?” She asked.

“It's best if I show you.” I said as I casted a spell to let her see my memories of my time in the wastes.

Memory#1
Location: Springvale
1,500 years ago

I opened my eyes and saw a familiar rocket sign. I sat up and looked next to me and saw Twilight. I checked my Pip-boy and read that this was the time I met Celestia and Luna.

“What happened?” I heard Twilight say as she sat up. She was also wearing the merc-adventurer outfit and had her own Pip-boy.

“Welcome to my memories.” I said as I held out a hand for her. She grabbed hold and I pulled her up.

“Where are we?” She asked as she looked at her clothing.

“Believe it or not, this Equestria’s past. Right now, we're in Springvale, a small town located near the settlement of Megaton.” I said as I looked around a little. Burnt out cars, broken down buildings and an Elementary School were the only things noticeable.

“Come on, I'll show you how I know your princesses.” I said as I started walking to the location of Vault 101 with Twilight following behind.

“Why was Equestria like this?” She asked me.

“Aftermath of the Great war. You know what a bomb is, right?” I asked her, gaining a nod from her as we climbed the hill.

“Well imagine a bomb strong enough to wipe a whole city.” I said to her as we made it up the hill. I could tell she was shocked that there was such thing that could kill an entire city existed.

“Now, imagine hundreds if not thousands of those bombs being launched all over the world.” I said, earning a gasp from her.

“Everyone, as in ponies, griffons, Minotaurs, Diamond dogs and etc, called the bombings the Nuclear Holocaust which lead Vault-tech make a hundred and twenty Vaults. I know, not enough to save the world, but that was their plan.” I said as I sat on a rock.

“The Vaults true purposes was to see the effects of living in an enclosed environments with different settings, like 101 for instance, it was made to see how the Vault population would live in a Dictatorship.” I said as my Pip-boy’s memory screen lit up, signifying that my past self is nearby.

PoV: Steel Breaker (memory)
Location: Springvale
Time: 2:00 P.M
Two months since arrival

‘Finally, I'm here.’ I thought as I got a view of SpringVale and saw Megaton over a hill. It's been two months since I first got here and improved my survivalist skills, I even got some combat armor and a few new guns.

‘Alright, buy some Radaway and Rad-X. How many Caps do I have?’ I thought as I started to walk towards Megaton.

Inventory: Caps: 160

I stopped in the middle of the road to see an Enclave Eyebot hover around.

I took notice of my surroundings and realized that there might be some good shit around here. I started to Scavenge around the broken down buildings and found about Sixty caps, a baseball bat, some hunting rifle ammo and a bottle of dirty water. I packed all of those things in the Pip-boy and took out the baseball bat, to see if it's in fighting conditions.

After checking the bat, I took out my hunting rifle and started walking to Megaton. I stopped as I heard a screeching sound coming from the hill of SpringVale.

I decided to check what was the noise and found two fillies, battered and bruised in front of a wooden door wearing Vault 101 jumpsuits. The pearl white filly looked to be around the age of sixteen and the midnight blue filly looked to be at least fourteen or fifteen.

I looked around and saw some things being carried away by the wind. I climbed up to see if I'm mistaken but saw a huge irradiated sandstorm heading this way.

I cursed to myself as I picked up the two fillies, put them over my shoulders and ran towards Megaton as fast as possible as the storm was closing in.

I got to the town gates and saw a protectron next to the gates.

“Please stand clear of the gates.” The protectron said as the gates opened. I ran inside, opened the gate and entered the town.

Once I closed the gate, I looked at the two fillies on my shoulders and sighed to myself as I heard someone walking towards me.

“Another new face in town? Hell, Welcome to Megaton, stranger.” I looked up and saw a tan colored earth pony wearing a coat and a cowboy hat.

“I ain’t got time for this. I need to get these two to a doctor, now.” I said, gesturing to the two unconscious fillies in the jumpsuits.

“Doc Church will help you with them, for a price of course. Just head down hill and take a right as soon as you a see a Brahmin.” The stallion said as he moved out of the way for me. I ran down the hill and found the clinic. I went inside and saw a brown unicorn stallion sitting near a console.

“I never seen you ‘round here before, so let me give you the rules. Number one, do not bother me with minor cuts and number two, if you have the supplies then don’t come in here.” The stallion said as he looked at me.

“Asshole, this isn’t about me, it’s about these two.” I said as put the two fillies each down on separate beds.

“Do you have the caps?” He asked, crossing his arms.

“I have two hundred and twenty caps, is that enough?” I asked him as I gave him the caps.

“As a matter of fact it is. Now, let see what I’m dealing with here.” He said as he started to check their injuries.

“Not too bad but not too good either, they seem to have been beaten and badly. They both have have a few broken ribs, a dislocated arm and wing. I’ll need about an hour to fix them up.” He said, making me sigh as I walked out the clinic.

“So, how it go?” I heard the stallion from earlier ask.

“They’ll make it. Name’s Steel Breaker.” I said as I put hand out for him.

“Sheriff Simms, I’m the mayor of this here town and Sheriff when the need to be.” He said as he took my hand and started shaking it.

PoV: Steel Breaker (Present)
Location: Megaton, Capital Wasteland (Memory)

“And that’s one of the reasons you should keep the notes to yourself.” I said to Twilight. We followed around my memory to Megaton and now looking down at him from above one of the catwalks.

“I guess so.” Twilight said, looking at the clinic.

“Don’t worry about them, they ended up with an arm cast for a few days only. Now, come on, we’ve been here long enough.” I said, deactivating the spell and sending us back to reality.

Reality

I opened my eyes and was greeted with Lavender mane. I shook my head as I gently pushed Twilight off of me and stood up.

I looked at my synthetic arm and disengaged the disguise spell, revealing it. I heard Twilight mumble out something as she opened her eyes.

“Wakey, wakey, sleepy head.” I said as I held out a hand for her. She grabbed my hand, allowing me to pull her up.

“So, that wasn’t a dream?” She asked, not believing in what she saw.

“If you don’t believe me, then ask Celestia and Luna, in the meantime, I’ll be around town if you need me.” I said as I opened the door and walked out. I saw Dogmeat sleeping next to the door.

“Come on boy, let’s go for a walk.” I said, walking him up. He opened his eyes and let out a loud yawn as he stretched. He stood up and followed me out the door.

Before the door completely closed, I could see Twilight looking at me, wondering how I’m sane after living in the Wasteland for so long. As the door fully closed, I headed out to explore the town.
