"Mother, what is beyond our borders?"
I looked down at the light grey changeling, a small smile on my face. I ran my hoof through his mane, looking out as he was.
"There is a land of creatures. They are like us, but with no holes, and only two have both wings and a horn. Their wings are not insect like as ours, and their horns are not malformed. They're known as ponies, my dear Caterpillar."
"Do we ever meet them?"
I sighed, looking at the ground. "Yes, we do my caterpillar."
"When? How come I've never seen one Mother? Are they dangerous?"
"They are not dangerous, but they panic easily. My Mothball, you will learn soon enough. Today however, is not that time. Perhaps when you're King, you will know."
"Yes Mother." Mothball looked up at me with wide eyes. I would never get over the sense of wonder in that little colt's eyes. A brilliant light blue, with a want for knowledge and his kingdom's affections. He was perfect, while young, he was the best thing in my life.
"Let us leave the cliffs, the sun is rising."
"Why Mother?"
"A pony is coming. We must leave." I spoke, urgently. I saw her great white wings rushing towards me.
"Why? I thought you said they weren't dangerous?" Suddenly, my son was lifted in a bright yellow magic. He screamed for me as the white mare put him on her back. The white mare turned towards me, and spoke.
"I'm sorry Chrysalis, but he does not belong to bugs. His father was a pony, and he will stay with his father.
"How can you say that with a straight face?! His father did nothing! His father left! I am his mother! I carried him for eleven months! I gave birth to him!" Tears flooded my vision. I don't remember the last time I cried sense that moment. I was a desperate mother, begging for her son. I wanted him. I needed him. This... this pony had no right to take my son! She did not know the joy of being a mother, or the pain! Why does she get to decide what is best for my child? For my little caterpillar?
"I know you did Chrysalis, but this colt is a great help for Equestria. We need him. I'm so sorry."
"Mother! Help!" Tears ran down his face, his blue eyes showing all emotion. I lit my horn, and fired towards Celestia.
"Give me back my son!" I cried, trying to feed off of any emotions I could get from Celestia to feed my power. To feed my anger. My hatred. My love.
Celestia shook off my blow without second thought. She fired a spell at me, which hit me square in the chest. I screamed, my chest smoldering with the heat of the Sun. Tears ran down my face, as the white goddess tool flight. I heard Mothball scream once more.
"Mother! Please!"
I was powerless. I was a mother who lost her own son. I could do nothing but cry and scream. "Mothball!"
Celestia didn't turn back.
