//-------------------------------------------------------// I'm Sorry... -by Silver Chord- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// I Won't Give Up... //-------------------------------------------------------// I Won't Give Up... “Gotta get there on time!” Silver Chord snatched his keys from off of the table and made a mad dash for the door… Only to suddenly stop and facepalm as he realized that his car was still at the auto repair shop. “Agh!” He threw his keys onto the coffee table and groaned, clutching his head and nearly pulling out tufts of his silver hair. “Come on! Think! Think! Lyra’s flight is leaving in thirty minutes, and I’ve gotta find a way to get to her before she leaves for good…” Silver suddenly thought of an idea, cupping his hands over his mouth and shouting: “Crimson! I need to borrow your bike!” “You what?!” Silver suddenly heard a loud Thump! But before he could contemplate it or wait for his demon counterpart to do anything else, he snatched the keys to Crimson Chord’s motorcycle from the table, as well as his black helmet, before sprinting outside and hopping onto the vehicle. He threw the helmet onto his head, threw the key into the ignition, and then he was off. As he zoomed out of sight, a shirtless, and very angry Crimson Chord stepped outside and shook his fist at his mortal counterpart. “Damnit, Silver! You better not scratch my bike!” Silver sped down the streets on the motorcycle. He passed CHS and looked for just a moment to see Sunset Shimmer chasing after a strange girl wearing a hood. But he merely shrugged it off, as it was none of his concern, after all… Hopefully, it wouldn’t be. Because right now, he had to stop the love of his life from leaving him forever. The farther he travelled down the road, however, the more crowded the streets became, making it harder for the silver-haired boy to drive at his constant speed. Then, as he took a right turn to the airport, he had to skid to a halt on the bike, the reason being because the road ahead was blocked off by an accident. Silver ground his teeth, hitting his helmet in frustration. “Goddamnit! There’s no way I can get through this traffic!” He looked down at his watch, and his eyes went wide. “And her flight leaves in fifteen minutes! But it’ll take me ten more minutes to actually get there on time!” He looked around, searching desperately for another way around the accident. Then, he saw it; an opening. Silver took off and drove onto the sidewalk, narrowly dodging any pedestrians that happened to be there as they tried to see what had happened. Many of them were shouting angrily at him as they jumped out of the way, while others simply tried to knock him off of the bike. He turned off of the sidewalk once he was past the traffic accident, and then resumed his mad pursuit to make it to the airport on time. Everything was going accordingly until Silver heard the most familiar sound in the world: Police sirens. “I can’t stop! If I do, then it’ll be too late!” Silver Chord chose to ignore the police as they chased him down the street. For his entire life, he had followed the rules, and had never been pulled over once by the police. Today was the first time, but he wasn’t going to let them stop him, not when the love of his life was about to leave without him confessing his feelings… And to apologize for the last thing that he said to her… “Silver, I can’t do this, okay?!” Lyra shouted. “I just can’t do it anymore!” “Can’t do what, Lyra?!” Silver snapped back. “You can’t stay here with your friends?! You can’t be here for the ones who care about you?!” “No one care’s about me!” “Well, maybe they were right not to! If you can’t even stay for your friends, then I can see why that’s true!” I can’t let her leave after that… He thought to himself. His grip tightened on the handlebars, and he put the throttle down, leaving a trail of dust in his wake. Turn after turn, more police tried to stop him, but he evaded them every time. However, with each turn that he made, he found himself falling away from the path to the airport, and he constantly found himself trying to turn back to get on the right road. But every time he made an attempt, the police would block his path… Lyra stared at Silver in shock, her wide eyes brimming with tears and filled with pain and anger. “Wha… W…” She grit her teeth and glared at him. “You know what?! You’re right! No one cares, and I don’t even know why I thought that you did!” She snatched up her keys and started to walk away. But before she stepped out of the door, she looked back at him with an angry scowl. “I don’t even know why I fell in love with you…” Silver’s eyes went wide. “What…? Lyra…” He tensed up as he saw her open the door and storm out. “Lyra, wait!” He ran for the door and pushed it open just in time to see Lyra driving away. “Lyra! I’m sorry!” He ran out into the empty street and stopped at the median, watching with tears in his eyes as she drove away… Silver could feel tears brimming in his eyes as the painful memories suddenly came back to him. He desperately wanted to wipe them away, but he couldn’t do that without lifting his hands from the handlebars first. He couldn’t stop for anything; not until he found Lyra and apologized. He soon came across another obstacle in his path, however, and this one was bigger than the last one he had to face: a construction zone that was right next to the airport. His eyes went wide, fear clouding his electric-blue irises. He quickly gave himself a mental shake. “No! I won’t stop!” He turned the accelerator to its limit, blowing past a group of construction workers that were taking their lunch break. Silver Chord could feel his wheels start to skid on the dirt, and he remembered that this motorcycle wasn’t exactly made for off-road driving. The police didn’t follow him, though, so that was a good sign. He saw the gate that led into the airport, and his heart leapt with joy. He could make it now! The tires were back on pavement, and he now had full control of the vehicle once more. “Woohoo! Score one for Silver Chord!” A few minutes later, Silver was sprinting from the parking lot towards the airport. He didn’t have too much time left, so he had to be quick and extremely vigilante if he ever wanted to see Lyra again… “Silver, you can’t just let her go like that.” “What else can I do?!” Silver shouted at the girl in front of him. “Tunes, I messed up, and I mean big. I can’t just go up to her and say: ‘Hey Lyra, guess what? I’m sorry for treating you so poorly and not being the person I should have been! Oh, also, I’m in love with you! Do you think you can forgive me?’ I can’t do that to her, Tunes!” “Yes, you can!” The golden-yellow haired girl shouted back. “If you love her, then you would do it! If you don’t, then you can be a quitter; I don’t care. But I won’t want you to just sit here and mope around, thinking: ‘Oh, woe is me!’” Tunes glared at him with a look that could commit genocide. “The Silver Chord that I know wouldn’t turn his back on a friend, or somebody he loves, for that matter!” “Sir!” An airport security guard held his hand out. “I’m going to have to ask that you stop– Hey! Stop!" Silver Chord slid in between the guard’s legs and hopped back up, not letting up on his speed for a second. He looked back for only a second. “Sorry, but I can’t stop now!” He turned back around and continued onward, listening as the security guard called for backup to apprehend him. They could try to catch him, but the chances of that happening were pretty slim. Silver looked ahead to see a few guards and airport personnel standing at the screening checks, but it didn’t look like they were expecting him yet. At least that would make it easier for him to get past them. The silver-haired boy jumped up onto the conveyor belt and vaulted over the x-ray scanner. At first, the security was rather dumbfounded by what had just happened. But once the initial shock had worn off, they sprang into action, trying desperately to grab him before he could escape. Despite their best attempts, however, Silver was just too quick for them to catch. As he ran across the long stretch of conveyor belt, he saw a big, burly guard with a buzz cut and bulging muscles try to block his path. He smirked as he got closer, because he had a few more tricks up his sleeve. “Give it up, kid!” He shouted. “You’ve got nowhere left to run!” “Try me!” Silver turned his body to the side and then hopped a little in the air. Once his feet made contact with the ground, he jumped up and performed a side flip over the guard. “Woo! Parkour!” The guard could only watch him as he landed on the ground and kept running, completely dumbfounded by the athletic skill that the teenager had displayed. Shaking his head, he began to chase him, along with two other airport security guards. Silver’s path was being filled by citizens and commuters, and he had to do his best not to knock them over. There was then a caddy that drove out in front of him and stopped, its flatbed piled high with luggage. Thankfully, it wasn’t too high, which would give Silver just the right amount of room to pull off his next maneuver. Right before he was about to run into the mile-high stack of luggage, he lunged forward, spinning his body as he soared over the caddy, then rolling onto the floor once he was on the other side. As he began to run once more, he could hear a string of loud swears, followed by the sound of luggage tumbling to the ground. He smirked, knowing now that he was in the clear for a bit. “I’m almost there, Lyra.” He muttered to himself. Silver Chord stopped once he saw the board that announced the departures and terminals. He searched for Ponyville, and his eyes bulged out of his sockets when he saw that the flight was Now Boarding. “What?! But I thought that it would be departing in two minutes!” He dashed away once more, wasting no time as he ran down the corridor and past the numerous commuters that gave him some very dirty or questioning looks as he passed them. Silver looked at the various terminal numbers. He remembered hers being Terminal Twenty-Eight, or something like that. Then, he saw it: Terminal Twenty-Eight, which was now departing from the airport. His heart stopped, and he ran up to the window, making it just in time to watch the plane take off, and at that moment, he felt like falling to his knees and crying. Once the plane was out of sight, though, that was exactly what he did. Silver slowly slid to the ground with his hands trailing down the pristine glass, and for the second time that day, he cried… Well, more like sobbing silently. He let the tears flow freely down his cheeks and fall freely, wetting his jeans and slowly soaking the skin underneath. She was gone, and now he could never apologize to her. Those golden eyes, her perfect green hair… All of that was gone now, and he would probably never see any of it again. A thought came to him suddenly, in which he pulled out his phone and looked through his pictures until he found the one he was looking for. The picture was of him and Lyra sitting in front of the river, their clothes soaking wet and their smiles stretching almost from ear-to-ear. He laughed weakly as he remembered that day. They drove to the river after school one day to relax, but Lyra somehow managed to slip and fall into it. Silver had tried to catch her, but that only resulted in both of them falling in. Thankfully, his phone was not in his pocket that day, which at least allowed him to take the photo. He remembered what had happened after that, too. Lyra stripped down to just her underwear and started teasing Silver. He laughed at the memory; Lyra was always good at making Silver feel flustered, but her intentions were always pure. He stared at the photo for a few more minutes in silence before he closed the photo gallery, bringing up his contacts and calling Lyra’s number. Even though she was on the plane now, she would get this message once she landed. And, hopefully, she would hear his message instead of simply deleting it. His finger hovered over the call button for a moment before he hesitantly pushed it, bringing the device to his ear. It rang a couple of times before it went straight to voicemail. “~Hey there! You’ve reached the number of Lyra Heartstrings! Sorry that I can’t talk right now, but leave a message after the beep and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Later!~” The phone beeped, signaling that the recording had started. At first, Silver just stayed silent, trying to think of something to say without screwing up again. Then, after at least five seconds of uncomfortable silence, he took a deep breath and began to speak. “Hey… Lyra?” He said quietly. “It’s Silver… I know that I’m not the first person you want to talk to right now, but… Please… Just hear me out? “Those things that I said yesterday… I shouldn’t have said any of that to you. It was horrible, rude, and selfish of me to do, and I didn’t take your feelings into account when I said what I said… I never realized that you loved me… I was so blinded by anger when you told me that you were leaving that I didn’t even know what to do. But… That was no reason for me to have snapped on you. I never should have done that … You remember that day by the river, right? When you took off your shirt and your pants and started teasing me about it? Asking me if I liked what I saw?” Silver chuckled. “Yeah… I liked what I saw… But I realize now that you trusted me enough to do that… And yet, I failed to realize that until it was too late… “I can’t believe that I said no one cared about you… That was probably the biggest lie that I’ve ever told… And I hate myself for saying that to you because I care about you, and so do all of the friends that you have here in Canterlot… Lyra… There has been something that I’ve wanted to tell you ever since we became friends, but I was so scared to make a move on you that I just kept my mouth shut… I guess that all of that is done now, huh? After all, you’ll probably never want to speak to me again. But I just wanted to let you know that I’m sorry for everything that I did to you… And to tell you that I…” The tears began to fall from his face at a much more rapid pace. “I love you, Lyra… And I just wanted to let you know that before you’re gone forever… Even though you already are gone… I just wanted you to know… And I promise… That I will never forget you…” After those last words, Silver hit the End Call button and put it back into his pocket, staring out the window and gazing at the endless blue sky, leaving him to his thoughts. Then, he heard the most beautiful voice in the world behind him, making his eyes go wide. “Silver…” Silver Chord slowly turned around to see if the voice was real, and sure enough, he saw Lyra standing behind him. She was holding a mint-green blanket close to her body, and her eyes were glistening with tears. He slowly got back onto his feet and just stared at her, unmoving. “Lyra… But… You’re plane… It left…” “It did?” Her eyes went wide for a moment before they softened, her lips curling into a small smile. “Well, I guess it was a good thing I decided to sleep for a bit…” Lyra took a few tentative steps closer to him, her gaze never breaking from his. “So… You really love me, too?” Silver smiled and closed the distance between them, placing a gentle hand on her cheek, which she leaned into as she kept looking at him. “More than anything, Lyra… I should have told you sooner…” She laughed weakly. At that moment, he could see her face drifting closer to his, her breath caressing his lips. “You really should have, you big idiot.” He chuckled, and then inched closer as well until their lips were barely brushing against each other. “Well, I might as well tell you now.” He said softly. “I love you, Lyra.” Right then, Lyra closed the distance, pressing her lips against his and wrapping her arms around him, letting the blanket fall to the floor as he wrapped his own arms around her as well. In the background, Silver could hear people cheering and clapping for them; congratulating them. His smile grew a little wider as he pulled her in closer, almost so much that he was afraid to let her go. Tears of joy began to trail down his face to join Lyra’s as they remained locked in a passionate embrace. A team of guards led by Bulk Biceps had approached the terminal to apprehend the silver-haired boy. But upon seeing the emotional display before them, they had stopped. Some of the guards were visibly tearing up at the sight, while others chose to smile and join in the applause. Bulk Biceps’ expression remained neutral at first, but then, he smiled. “Let’s leave him alone, guys. I don’t want to interrupt this reunion.” And with that, they walked away. After a few more moments, the two teenagers broke away from the kiss, albeit rather reluctantly. They pressed their foreheads together and looked into each other’s eyes, smiling. Silver Chord thought that he would lose the love of his life today, but it turned out to be okay in the end. After all, he had found his the one thing that he needed, and he was never going to let her go anytime soon. Hell, not even her parents could stop him… Oh lord… The parents. “Um… Lyra? Aren’t your parents going to be pissed about you missing your flight?” “Why should I care?” She replied with a laugh. “After all, I’m not going back anytime soon.” And thank God she wasn’t. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing his heartstring now…
