Chapters Storm of the ages and a new dawn
The calm before the storm
It was a sunny day when Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Applejack, Twilight, and Rarity were having their picnic on a hill over looking the vast area of Sweet Apple Acres. Each of them were in charge of bringing a different item to help. Rarity brought the blanket to sit down on and cups to drink from. Applejack brought the beverages and some deserts. Pinkie Pie brought the bread. Fluttershy brought lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese to make the sandwiches with. Rainbow Dash brought a special desert called cloud cakes.
While Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie were busy making the sandwiches, Applejack and Rarity were busy getting the blanket and cups set up. When that was done, Applejack filled up the cups with her family's signature apple cider. Rainbow Dash was in charge of finding Twilight since she was late for the picnic.
Meanwhile at the library, Twilight and Spike were busy reorganizing the books and bad completely forgotten about the picnic.
"Spike? Spike!!" Called Twilight
Spike hearing his name being called ran down the stairs and unfortunately missed a step. He tumbled down a few stairs before Twilight managed to catch him with her magic.
Twilight gave him a short answer" Spike, I need you to take down a letter to the princess."
Twilight had no sooner gotten done telling spike what she needed when Spike had shown up with a pen and paper in hand.
"Dear Princess Celestia,
If you would be kind enough to allow me a little more access to scrolls dealing with magic, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm hoping to learn a new spell.
P.S. I also would like to invite you to our picnic.

As soon as she got done asking Spike to send the letter, there was a knock on the library door. As Twilight opened the door, the face of Rainbow peered back at her. After a few minutes of chitchat, the duo headed over to sweet apple acres. Once there, everything had been set up nice. When Twilight was asked why she was late, she replied that she was organizing the books and sending a letter to the princess.
When Twilight told them about inviting the princess, the unanimously asked what did she say. Twilight told the group about how she had been unable to attend the picnic due to how busy it was in canterlot. While the group was laughing and having a good time, they noticed it becoming darker.
Rainbow Dash said before anyone could ask that the pegasi were preparing for an extremely intense storm. She also said that the storm was going to start in about fifteen minutes. Took five minutes to get everything picked up. After they all said their farewells, Rainbow, Pinkie, Applejack, and Rarity went their separate ways. Twilight walked with Fluttershy back to her house.
Little did the mares know that the storm was going to change their lives and perception of their world. At about halfway home, it started to pour down rain. As Fluttershy was about to open the door to her cottage, she and Twilight heard the growl of a large timberwolf and the barely audible scream for help of a young foal.
As the pair were running frantically trying to find the source of the scream, they heard the growl again and realized that they were getting close due to the way the growl sounded. In a little clearing about fifty yards from her cottage, the pair finally found the foal. Twilight burst into action and slammed a few spells into the timberwolf disorienting it. Using this to her advantage, Twilight picked up the foal and gently placed it on her back with her magic. Making sure the Fluttershy was near her, Twilight cast a teleportation spell which sent them to the ponyville hospital.
When they arrived, Twilight called out for help and two nurses arrived in a matter of minutes. As the nurses took stock of the situation, one had called for a gurney. Twilight chose to stay and keep tabs on the foal. When Fluttershy had to leave, Twilight again cast the teleportation spell saving her from getting soaked in the rain. About two hours had gone by when one of the nurses who took the foal came and let her know that they cleaned the foal up and discovered that it was a colt. The nurse also said that it was ok to see him.
As Twilight entered the mysterious colt's room, she couldn't help but begin to cry as she beheld a sight that should never be seen. Scratches, cuts, and bruises covered the colt from head to hold. Seeing an empty bed next to the colt, she ran out and asked if she could use it to sleep by the colt. The doctor said it was ok so as Twilight got back into the room, she used her magic to levitate it next to the bed the colt was lying in and set it down gently to avoid waking him. As Twilight gazed at the colt, she realized that he couldn't be older than a year.s
Twilight awoke to the sound of frantic doctors and the long steady beap that was the sign of a flat lining patient. When she looked around she was in the hall and could only look on in horror at the sight in front of her. With tears stream from her eyes, she barely was able to get a message to the princess via spikes flame. Noticing Twilight's current condition, Spike requested that the princess show up here.
As Princess Celestia finished reading her student's letter and Spike's little memmo at the bottom, she informed Princess Luna and teleported to the ponyville hospital. When she arrived, the nurse at the station showed her where Twilight was. Just as she saw Twilight, she noticed that her coat and mane were paler than normal and while lost in her thoughts Twilight saw her and ran to give her a hug. When the doctors were finished, they allowed Twilight and the princess back into the room. As Twilight began to lay down on the bed next to the colt, Princess Celestia began to sing a lullaby. Now this was no ordinary lullaby, this was sung by her mother. Princess Luna heard her singing the lullaby that her mother used to sing to them. Luna began to sing along with her older sister. While they were both singing, their horns began to glow their signature colors, blue for Luna and golden yellow for Celestia. Twilight was immediately engulfed in swirling blue and gold magical energies. Calming her down enough to give her some much needed rest. Their combined energies while giving her some peace also came with additional side affects.
It was early next morning when Twilight woke up at the sound of rustling. As she turned to the colt, she noticed deep pure blue hypnotic eyes staring at her. She ran out into the hall to call for a doctor. When the doctor got there, he immediately began performing a checkup on the colt. While performing the checkup, he noticed that the colt had both front legs broken and a back leg as well. This caused Twilight to cry with new ferocity. The doctor did an X-ray scan to find out the severity of the breaks. After that was done, the doctor began to put the colt's legs back after using a numbing spell. After they were fixed, the doctor bound them and put them in a cast. The doctor said he'd be here for a couple more weeks.
Storm of the ages and a new dawn
When the colt's injuries finished healing, the doctor said that it would be OK to leave. As Twilight and the silent colt walked home, Twilight began to get the feeling that they were being followed. Sure enough, as Twilight looked back, she saw ponies in black garb with red trim. When her gaze returned upon the colt, she could see just how terrified of these followers of theirs that he was.
The realization that these must be the same attackers that left him for dead in the forest hit her like a ton of bricks. Her gaze immediately returned to those following them, and where there was once kindness,love, and compassion now was hate, rage, revenge. Unfortunately for the attackers, they had no idea who they were dealing with. What was once clean ground was now covered with blood. As Twilight began to return to her normal self, she collapsed near the young colt she was protecting.
Twilight's mentor sensed this change in her student and rushed immediately to find out the cause of her distress. The colt was nestled up against her. The wrath of her student upon her attackers was nothing short of brutal. A fortunate survivor of the attack had a crossbow hidden in his cloak. As he pressed the trigger, the bolt flew straight and true and imbedded itself in the colt's chest. Celestia turned around and saw the attacker try to slip away. She caught him and sent him to prison for the atempted murder of Twilight and her colt. With Twilight on her back and the colt carried in her magic, she returned to the hospital to explain the situation. The princess left to inform her younger sister about the events that have transpired in ponyville.
It was three o' clock the next day when Twilight woke up. As she opened her eyes, she saw all her friends staring at her. After being berated by several questions at once, the nurse stepped in to give her more time to rest and eat. As she turned to look for the colt, she found him in the bed next to hers with the arrow still protruding from his chest. As soon as she saw the arrow, she let loose a blood curdling scream. In the middle of her scream, she began to glow in swirling trio of lavender, gold, and blue auras. The princess felt this sudden surge of power and distress so she teleported right back to the hospital just in time to see them put her student to sleep. The princess inquired as to why her student had to be put to sleep. The nurse responded with " When she woke up, she saw the colt in his predicament and let loose a blood curdling scream of anguish, helplessness, and anger." After listening to the nurse, Princess Celestia said that she would stay for a bit to watch over her student and when she leaves shes going to send a small patrol to watch over them.
Two hours later Princess Celestia left for Canterlot and assigned a small patrol to watch over Twilight and her colt. This patrol was lead by none other than Twilight's older brother Shining Armor. They were going to the train station when the two princesses used their combined power to teleport them to the ponyville hospital. As the captain gazed upon his sibling, he noticed her frail complection and how pale she looked. He took a look at the colt and wasn't able to see much because they were operating on him to try and remove the arrow from his chest. When they finally got the arrow out, the foal flat lined. This caused Twilight to wake and she glowed in the midst of three swirling magical energies. While the foal was stable for the moment, Twilight lost consciousness and fell onto the bed. Her brother screamed at the sight. One of the other patrolmen walked Shining Armor away from the scene.
The scenario repeated itself three times, but the third time was different. The third time she began to sing in a language long lost to ponykind. The words of the song while untranslatable flowed like a calm river or a bubbling Brook. The song had taken all the excess magical energy and put them into her tears. As she wept over her foal, her tears dripped onto the foals wound healing it. As the wound healed, Twilight collapsed into the floor from magical exhaustion. Luckily her brother just returned in time to catch her with his magic.
The captain of the royal guard was beginning to feel a strong hatred towards those who attacked his little sister. His heart was broken, all he felt was pain, anger, hatred, frustration, and profound helplessness. He walked into the room and laid his head on his sister's shoulder and he cried profusely. After about ten minutes of crying, his tears just stopped flowing. Twilight did not wake up after two days of sleep so Spike sent for Zecora. Zecora, a zebra with a sense of time who only speaks in rhyme. Zecora was in the middle of making a potion when she heard a knock on her door. As she gazed upon Spike, she said" Come in come in. Dear oh dear, what has happened with bloodshot eyes and fragile skin?" Spike let her know about Twilight's condition. Zecora grabbed a satchel and filled it with herbs, vials, pot and a spoon. Fifteen minutes had gone by when the pair arrived at the hospital. When she saw Twilight, her heart went out to her friend. She mixed the herbs in the bowl and requested Spike to go get her a little bit of water. When Spike returned with the water, zecora added it to the herbs and began to boil them.
As this was going on, zecora began to sing in the zebrican language. As she started to sing, drums began to play but there was no drums around. The guards watched with fascination as glyphs appeared in mid air out of the blue. The potion when black in color, the glyphs sunk into it and the potion became clear as water. She had a guard go get a nurse and told her to put the potion into the IV drip.
As soon as the potion was put into the IV drip, Twilight began to come around. Zecora stood there watching as Twilight tried to stand. Her legs, weakened from the drug used to knock her out. Twilight still had tears running down her face. Zecora had brought a few vials for blood but she decided to use one to collect the magical tears from Twilight. Zecora left after collecting a vial of blood and a vial of her tears. When she had gotten back to her but, zecora grabbed a few ingredients from around her hut. Hearts desire, clover, sapp from the thorny trees, and the blood of Twilight. As soon as she got the water in the pot boiling with the three other ingredients in it, she proceeded to add Twilight's blood. Zecora chanted in her native language causing runes of grey magic to appear out of thin air. As she finished the chant, the runes began to submerge under the potion. The pot began to glow brighter and brighter before it suddenly exploded flinging zecora across the room. When she looked at where the pot used to be, a dragon of violet energy stood in its place. The dragon disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Zecora ran back to town to find Spike to give the princess a message. Spike was uncertain about taking down a message to the princess for Zecora, but when she said it was regarding Twilight he scrambled for quill and paper.
"Dear Princess Celestia
I need you to come to my hut right away for I have discovered something about our mutual friend Twilight. It is regarding this deal with the colt and her magic.
Your loyal subject
Zecora"
With a puff of green fire, Spike sent the message to the princess. Zecora left and hurried back to her hut to clean up and await the arrival of the princess. Unfortunately as Zecora was nearing her hut, she saw two roysl guards at her door. Inside was a golden glow. Cautiously approaching the door, she looked inside. To see the princess using her magic to help clean and repair her hut.
When they were beginning to talk about Twilight and Zecora's discovery about her student, the princess was summoned to the hospital. So the princess and Zecora teleported there and sent immediately to Twilight's room. They arrived to see Twilight aglow with violet, blue, and golden swirling magical energies.
" So this is what the nurse was talking about the last time when they had to put Twilight to sleep" thought the princess. As for Zecora and the princess's earlier conversation, the black dragon encircling her cutie mark seemed to prove Zecora's theory beyond a doubt. Twilight woke up two hours later to the frightened and curious eyes of Zecora and her teacher. When Twilight got up from the bed to bow to the princess, she almost faceplanted into the floor until Princess Celestia caught her with her magic. She scolded Twilight in a gentle tone for trying to get up so soon. The princess understood why she did it which was why she reacted the way she did.

An unexpected and horrifying new discovery
It was the next day when Twilight woke up. She turned to gaze at the foal next to her and began to cry silently. She cared very deeply for the foal who has been abused and almost killed. As she took a closer look at the foal, she discovered something strange. The foal was a pegasus but also had a horn. The sudden realization made Twilight gleam and she used a teleportation spell to summon Spike. When Spike appeared, he seemed unhappy until he realized who summoned him. He jumped onto the bed with Twilight and gave her a big hug.
As Twilight finished returning the hug, she requested Spike to send an urgent letter to Princess Celestia regarding the foal.
"Dear Princess Celestia,
I've recently discovered something strange and unusual about the foal. I discovered this morning that he's an alicorn. Please respond asap and send some guards. I fear for the life of the foal. I think that it is because he's an alicorn that these ponies are trying to kill him. I hope that you can look into his memory and find out how he gotten his legs broken and who those ponies were down in the square. I know it may sound strange but I believe that this foal may have been born an alicorn.

About an hour later, Princess Celestia and Luna walk in. They brought several guards to protect Twilight and the foal. Princess Luna used a spell to go into the foal's memory taking her sister Princess Celestia with her and also Twilight. What the trio witnessed in his memory was absolutely nothing short of horrifying and cruel. When they were back out of his memory, Twilight looked at her teacher and saw a face that betrayed everything that Celestia stood for. Instead of joy and happiness, there was sorrow, anger, and a deep profound hatred. This caused Twilight to worry about her teacher. Her worry grew worse after her teacher teleported out of there without a word.
Princess Luna noticing Twilight's face returned from her thoughts. Tears were falling rapidly from the younger princess. Twilight noticed this reaction and asked what was wrong.
"Twilight, there is something you must know about my sister and I. We are orphans. The ponies you saw in the foal's memory are part of the group that murdered our parents. The reason I'm telling you this is because of the worry on your face, your mind, and in your heart about the foal and my sister. The memory of this foal brought back bad memories for us."
As Princess Luna finished telling Twilight about her past, Twilight couldn't help but crawl over to the younger princess and give her a hug. Luna returned the hug gently for fear of hurting Twilight. Before she left, Luna let Twilight know that her suspicions were correct about the foal being born an alicorn and that being the reason for him being hunted.
Twilight levitated herself over to the foal and wrapped him in her arms and went to sleep. Luna watched this little display and told the guard at the door to stay here. She'll be sending more guards soon. She teleported to Canterlot in front of the guard forcing him to shield his eyes from the blinding light. About an hour and a half later the reinforcements arrived. Now there were ten guards including the one by the door. Another guard stood watch at the door meaning two outside and eight inside the room. Among the newcomers, Shining Armor, Twilight's brother, returned. Princess Celestia filled him in on the the events of today. Princess Cadence heard what was happening and hurried to her husband and sister in-laws aid. Shining Armor was crying when Cadence finally reached him. When he saw her, he gave her a hug and wept into her shoulder as she held him. As soon as he stopped crying, she asked him what was wrong. A reply so short yet so full of pain sorrow and regret. He replied " For all my skill at creating shield spells, this is the one thing I'd not been able to protect her from."
Cadence kissed him upon the brow and held him. She found a few mats nearby and placed them side by side so she could sleep next to her husband. The love Shining Armor showed for his sister made Cadence very happy. Twilight woke up fifteen minutes later and saw Shining Armor and Cadence side by side sleeping. Twilight's stomach began to growl which got the attention of the guard next to her bed. Going out he call for a nurse to bring food for Twilight. Fifteen minutes had gone by when the food arrived. Before Twilight could eat though, the guard tried a bite of each item. Then the guard said she had to wait another fifteen minutes to see if there was any poison. After the request time had passed, she was allowed to eat.
It turned out that the food was poisoned but not with the deadly kind. They put a sleeping drug into the food, but what they didn't count on was the nine other guards who were on alert since their comrade dropped cold onto the floor. Each of the guard s was wearing civilian attire and medical garb in a few. When the kidnappers came for the foal, they gained a rude wake up call. A few were dispatched, a few were paralyzed by spells so they could question them. What the other guards didn't notice was that the commotion woke up the captain and once he realized what was going on, went into a rampage. He left only one of the living kidnappers conscious. The guards all backed away for they never saw the captain like this, and a few prayed they'd never have to see it again.
The kidnapper refused to talk and tell him why they were after the foal and his sister. This only succeeded in making Shining Armor madder than a hornet. Luckily a nurse who had happened to pass by where all the commotion was taking place and called the Princess. In a matter of minutes, Celestia, clad in her golden Armor walked towards the living kidnappers and sent them to the palace dungeon. Celestia used the teleportation spell to send Cadence and Shining Armor back to Canterlot to their room. Celestia cast a spell that was kinda like a tracking device. It took the shape of the sun. She placed it on Twilight and the foal. Celestia prayed she'd never have to use it.
