The city of Canterlot has faced many trials in its long and venerable history, having stood as a beacon of hope and equality since the founding of Equestria. It's golden towers, and beautiful Castle have served as the home for the rulers of Equestria since the banishment of Nightmare Moon, and even now that Luna has returned to her rightful place by her sister.

It has survived sieges, rebellions, plagues, and even Discord.

Now, it will face its most harrowing moment as the war between the dark and deadly Shadowbolts, and the honorable and righteous Wonderbolts, spills from the shadows it has been fought in and into Canterlot proper once more as the Shadowbolts' fortress looms over the city, its deadly cannon pointed towards the Wonderbolts, and towards Canterlot.

When it fires, will the ponies who call Canterlot home be able to survive? Or will the city crumble beneath the stormclouds that are gathering on the horizon.

This story takes place in Calm Wind's Wonderverse, and starts in Chapter 98 "Nimbus Rising" of the story Pierce the Heavens. If you have not read it already, then I advise you to do so. It is not needed, however, as this story, while connected to PtH, will not be dealing with what is going on with the Wonderbolts and rather exploring what is going on in Canterlot in the wake of a weapon of mass magical destruction going off.

I warn you now, dear reader, it won't be pretty. This story is not going to be about happy things, and will be dark and gritty. Blood will be shed, ponies will die, and Canterlot will burn. But, from the ashes, perhaps something beautiful will be born.
