Dear diary,

Today I seem to have gotten out of training, though I'm not sure I'm happy about that. Mom and Dad had another fight... over me. The same fight they always seem to have. Dad will basically be putting me through his training regimen or he'll be putting me through Mom's. Whichever. Mom doesn't agree that that should be done, though. She thinks I'm "far too young for a regimen like this." Honestly, I don't really mind, but I can't say she's wrong... it is really tough. I normally push through anyway. I want to be like her when I get older. Someone able to protect those close to me. They fought, though; then Dad went who knows where and Mom went back to her room to cool off... Leaving me just sitting there, so here I am talking to you. I'll probably be back later tonight. I'm heading to mine and Listless' usual spot. It's nice talking to you, but she's always been there for me to talk to and she really helps. I'll see you later.

Yours always,

Eumelia

After I finished, I set the pencil down and closed the book. 'I'm not sure why Mom wanted me to start doing this... but at least it's obvious it's mine. She must have gotten it custom made as the book itself is the same as me. The book is the same lavender as my coat. The trim is magenta like my mane and the lock is made of... turquoise? Did she get help from a unicorn? When could she..? Oh well, I better get going.' I took the key, locked the book, put it on my bookshelf and hid the key in another book that I had hollowed out before leaving.

I looked back and forth to see if anypony was watching before walking a little further along the cave wall and crouching down a little to walk through the entrance to a hidden alcove. It was easily the size of a small house inside. A couple blankets and throw pillows lay off to the side. The only other thing in the room, aside from strewn about rocks and boulders, was a door on the opposite wall of the entrance. On one of the pillows lie a light green mare with an azure mane. Her eyes nearly matched her mane, though they had just a tint of purple in them. After staring a bit at some random point, seemingly on the wall, she turned to look at me. "Well, you're early."

"They got in a fight again so training didn't happen today. I would have gotten here sooner, but I decided to leave an entry in my diary first. Still not sure why Mom said I should do that..," I explained.

"I think I know," she said before looking back to the previous point.

"And what do you think the reason is?" I asked as I walked over and laid myself down on the pillow next to her.

"Well, I'm not exactly sure, but I have an idea. If I'm right, it won't matter. Not for a long time, if ever."

"If you say so..." I looked to her. She still seemed absolutely fixated on whatever it was she was looking at. "So, Listless... what are you thinking about?"

Listless shook her head before looking back to me. "Oh, um... magical locks, I guess."

"Magical locks? We don't even know any unicorns," I replied, tilting my head.

"We don't need to."

I though for a few moments, trying to understand. "What does that mean?"

"I don't want to put a magical lock on something. I just want to unlock a magical lock," Listless replied before looking back to the spot she had been staring at before. I followed her line of sight and found myself looking at the door.

I looked back to her, "The door? Why do you think there is a magic lock on it? I mean... when was the last time we had open contact with outside?"

"It's really simple, if you think about it," Listless replied, keeping her stare on the door.

"If it's really as simple as you say, why don't you just tell me?" I asked, looking back to the door.

"What kind of door is bare? No knob, no lock... it's just... there."

"It is isn't it..? And you know what makes it even more odd?" I asked, leaning up against her.

"What's that?" she asked, laying her head on my own.

"That no pony else can make their way in here... You either have to be really small, or maybe pretty flexible. Although I'm not sure that that would work. Might have to keep that in mind for when we get too big to fit easily." I replied before closing my eyes.

"So... who's the door for? And where does it lead?" Listless asked.

"I don't know who it's for and I really don't know where it leads. I do know one thing, though."

"And what's that?" she asked, adjusting herself ever so slightly.

"I just want to stay here tonight. You know, tomorrow's the first day of school and I'm not so sure how much sleep I'd be able to get at home with what happened today." I replied, flinching a bit as I remembered the fight.

She adjusted herself in order to pet my mane, "It was that bad today?"

"It just keeps getting worse. I guess it makes sense... sort of... they just keep having the same fight. Dad isn't listening, so Mom just seems to get more frustrated each time. I'm just hoping that it doesn't ever devolve into a physical fight of any sort..." I replied, leaning further into her.

"Well, if you want to stay here tonight, I'm not gonna go anywhere."

"Thank you." I replied.

"No problem, Squeaky," she replied before beginning to hum a light melody and sending a light breeze from her wings as I drifted off to slumber.
