"Hey wake up boy we're here" Jason heard a voice say as he was smacked in the side of his head, very roughly, by his father as they pulled up to their new home that they moved into. Jason was a seventeen year old boy who really hated his life so far, throughout most of his life he always had the blunt end of luck and would always end up getting punished for it even if it wasn't his fault. Jason's parents basically despised him because to them him being born was what ruined their lives and made them have to have low paying jobs so they couldn't live their young lives in Vegas like they dreamed of. After he turned fifteen his little brother Toby was born and for some reason his parents would make it obvious that they loved him more than they did Jason just to make him feel bad about himself. Jason's school life was even worse since kinder-garden he would always stay quiet and to himself, this made him an easy target for bullies as they would pick on him while he sat there and said nothing. He wouldn't even try to fight back and that made it worse and worse, the bullies would give him a black eye or two and when he came home his parents would laugh at him and call him weak or soft. The only person that Jason really cared about in his family was his little brother but when he would try to interact with him his parents would either punch or slap in the face and tell him that he should stay away from him so that Toby wouldn't grow up to be a huge fuck-up like him.
When they pulled up Jason was the last one to get out he didn't want to get his parents pissed and get another beating from them for 'being in the way' as they put it. As he got out he pulled his black hoodie over his head and hopefully get to his room unnoticed by his parents, as he made his way to his room he was stopped by a tight grip on his arm.
"Just where do you think you're going?" sneered his mom as she continued to grip his arm
"I'm just heading to my room" Jason softly said trying not to provoke her in any way possible
"No that's not your room, your room is the basement but if you screw anything up or do anything wrong then you get to sleep in the backyard by the woods with nothing but the clothes on your back got it?' she said Jason just nodded as he made the way to his 'new room'. As he got to the door his father came by and handed him some papers and school supplies.
"This is stuff you'll need for school tomorrow schedule and all the works and don't let me see come out of there unless we say it's okay or if we need you to do work got it?" he asked with a rude, rough tone Jason merely nodded as he went down into the basement. Once he got to the bottom he saw that there was a bed in the far corner with a nightstand next to it and on the nightstand was a small lamp. A dresser was on the opposite side of the bed and closet was right next to the door that led up to the main house, as Jason looked around he noticed that was 10:30 P.M. and he had to get some sleep for school tomorrow. Jason got undressed and put on some PJs he then went over and got in the bed he looked at the digital alarm clock and set it to go off at 4 A.M. so he could get to school without having his parents up he then turned off the light and went to sleep.

Jason woke up to the sound of his alarm clock and turned it off, he rubbed his eyes as he got up and went to get his clothes for a shower. He gathered his clothes and his school stuff as he walked upstairs quietly so not to wake his parents or his brother. Jason laid his school stuff on the couch in the living room and proceeded to go to the bathroom and take a shower. After he got out and dried off he got dressed, got his school stuff and headed out and walked towards the school that was only three blocks from his house. Jason was wearing regular blue jeans, a white T-shirt and his black hoodie that he always liked to wear along with normal tennis shoes. The chilly air blew on Jason as he walked to the school, he remembered seeing it as they drove by it to get to their house, Jason was still looking over his schedule and a map of the school when he bumped into someone.
"Oops I'm sorry I-I didn't see you there!" he said hoping that this person wouldn't beat him up and mugg him. He looked up to see a girl that looked about the same age as him, she had beautiful red & yellow hair, and well tanned skin, she wore a black leather jacket and pink & black boots. She just smiled and held a hand to help him up Jason looked at the hand wit caution before taking it and got to his feet.
"Its okay it happens" she said, as she looked at him she noticed that he had a school map & schedule
"Hey you go to Canterlot High school too?" she asked him as she looked at him
"Huh? oh! that's the name of the school? sorry I just moved here kinda lost but I did see a school building a couple blocks from here while we drove to my house so assume that's the school I'm heading to?" he asked hoping that he didn't waste his time walking to the wrong school or something.
"Well yeah its the only school in the town but I understand since you're new here I can show you if you want"
"Sure that would help me alot thanks...um..?"
"Sunset Shimmer and your welcome...you?"
"Jason Hoffman"
"Well Jason welcome to Canterlot and Canterlot high trust me you'll have a great time here!" she said as they continued their walk to the high school. The walk was quiet for the most part mainly due to Jason being shy around Sunset he really didn't want to say or do anything that would make her mad, he thought as long as he stayed silent then he could get to the school without any trouble and she would forget he was even there. It wasn't that he didn't want to be friends with her but the countless years of abuse from his parents and being bullied made him avoid people all the time. In all honesty he preferred it because to him anyone that talked to him only would say mean and spiteful things to him, so he would just stay away from people most of the time which led him to become antisocial.
After a while Sunset decided to start a conversation with Jason to get know him and to lessen the awkwardness between the two as it was clear to her that he wasn't going to start talking. "So were did you move from if I may ask?"
"My family and I moved here from Florida, they thought it was too much to raise two kids at the same time."
"Didn't you miss your friends? I'm sure that I would if I had to move." Jason didn't say anything he never had friends because everyone picked on him and his parents would threaten him when he tried to interact with Toby. He really just hated his life he didn't do anything to deserve the treatment that he got as a kid and when he asked his parents what he did wrong they would say the same thing every time that stung him more as the year went by. 'You were born' that was the worst thing a parent could say to a child but to Jason, he ignored it eventually and put up with the stuff his parents put him through but it still hurts him to think that his parents would live a happier life without him and that they would constantly rub it in made all the more worst.
Sunset waited for him to answer but all she got was silence and that was all she would get as they continued to walk to school 'maybe he's just shy I guess I would to if I was in his shoes, but why was he so scared while he apologized he acted like I was gonna beat him senseless' her thoughts were cut short as they came to the school and Jason's first day.
