Chapter 1 - Welcome to Terra! (Pilot)
“It’s scary”
“What is?”
“This whole growing up thing”
“Yeah… I know… I know”
Chapter One – Welcome to Terra!
“Dude. Wake up”
“Piss off”, I reply. “It’s Saturday, let me sleep.”
“Jack it’s actually Friday. And we have school… in like twenty minutes. Maybe you wanna get your arse into gear? Like pronto”
That got my attention. Being late for school has become a recent habit of mine, a habit that isn’t really appreciated by the miserable excuse of a man that makes up my lovely form tutor. I quickly sat up from my warm and cosy bed, throwing my hands to my face, running them up into my messy hair. “You shitting me, Scoots? I can’t be botheeeeeered.”
That’s Scootaloo, by the way. The peachy-orange Pegasus horse chick currently standing over me with a face like thunder. She’s technically my next door neighbour, but considering the amount of time she spends at my place, she’s more of a in and out housemate. The day she learnt to fly was the day she became a member of my household... with my bedroom window becoming her front door. Nobody minds though, she may have a slight tint of recklessness to her but she has a heart of gold. She has always been there for me. Me and Scoots basically grew up together, although she is a few months ahead of me in age. We share the same everything. The same likes and dislikes, the same views and opinions, which is strange considering we are completely different species. Then again, that’s probably why we are the best of buds.
“No, Jack. I am not shitting you,” Scoot fired back in a humorous and sarcastic tone. “If you’re late then I’m late, now get up and get dressed. Sharpish! I want to be on time for my last day.”
“I guess you’ve got a point. We get our certificates today, right?”
“Yup. Funny right? How a piece of paper decides your future life?”
“Funny? I think it’s messed up. I mean, if I failed… what would I do?”
“You’d still have me,” Scoot replied through a tilted head pout and a wink. “What would you ever do without your bestie, Scoots? Aside from not waking up in the morning?”
“Oh har har you’re funny,” I replied in a deadpan expression. “Now… bestie, would ya’ kindly sod off so I can get ready?”
“Whatever you say, asshole,” was the response I got before she existed the room, closing the door behind her. “Chop chop, slow coach” she voiced though the door before disappearing downstairs. Most likely to raid the family fridge.
My mum didn’t care that Scoot treated our home like her own. My mum loved Scoot. ‘She’s a lovely girl, Jacky’ she would always say. My mother can be so cringe inducing. I guess that’s better than being a complete racist towards the Animalis Populo. Mum always love their kind. ‘So soft and cuddly’ she’d call them.
I guess I should explain the Animalis Populo shouldn’t I? Well, basically here on the planet Terra, we have two races of sentient creatures: The humans and the Animalis Populo, which is like animal people in old world Latin or some shit. The Animalis Populo is divided into many subraces or ethnic groups, kinda like how humans can be English, Chinese etc.
Anyway, the most commonly found races of Animalis Populo are:
Caninus, which include species such as German shepherds, wolves etc.
Felinus which includes species like Bengals, tigers, leopards etc.
And Equus, which is made up of all kinds of horses and ponies. This line of Animalis Populo are extra special because some of the members can be born as an additional species. For example, Scootaloo is your typical Equus horse… but she is also a Pegasus… because she has wings… or some shit like that. I never really paid attention in my biology classes… I know they’re kinda rare.
I do know for a fact that the most common ‘breeds’ of Animalis Populo are similar to the common breeds of house pets. House pets are not enslaved furball by the way, they are just non-sentient, retaining absolutely no humanoid aspects. Exotic breeds, like the tiger are much harder to come by as they tend to like specific climates and are really fussy with how they live. They’re not super rare or something, just there is less of them.
Nevertheless, I was now ready. Dressed in the typical skinny black jeans, white button up shirt and converse shoes. You’re supposed to dress all smart and formal for six form at my school… nobody ever does. The messy bed hair was a quick fix thanks to some quality hairspray which was totally not stolen off of Scootaloo. After about five minutes, give or take, the essentials of getting ready in a rush were complete. “I really can’t be arsed for today,” I told myself as I parted from my room. Making my way downstairs, I found Scootaloo waiting by the front door.
“No time for breakfast. We gotta go now,” Scootaloo commanded. “Otherwise we will be mega late. Like fucked in the butt by the sun late.” I forgot to mention that the Equus line has some weird obsession with the sun and moon. Also, Scoot has a very interesting vocabulary.
“You make me skip breakfast, you owe me a dinner” I quipped in response.
“You either get moving or you’ll be eating my dust,” she said before flapping her wings to a hover.
“Alright, alright. Let’s go. Just don’t fly off without me”
The trek to school isn’t too far away from where we live. Maybe a good ten minutes’ walk? Nevertheless we were going to be late anyway. No chance of getting a lift. Mum had already left for work and screw waiting for a bloody bus. The last time I did that, the wanker was twenty minutes late, making both me and Scoot even more off schedule than what we already where. I have to give it to her, she could have flown to school in mere minutes… yet she still waited for me.
