Our story starts with a lo-

“Luna, where are you?” My apologies but it seems one must go and deal with my sister, she never seems to be abl-
“Luna, are you doing your damned 'reports' I think you called them again?”
Well it seems my 'dear' sister is unable to take a hint so it seems that I shall have to answer her qualms and likely-
“If you don't get your ass up here-”
“DEAR SISTER, JUST BECAUSE OUR SUBJECTS WORSHIP YOU DOES NOT MEAN I DO!”
As I was saying before being rudely interrupted, our story starts with a look back to how it all started. The creation of all life on our planet whilst it floats throughout space on what is seeming like more and more of a joy ride for my sister. She seems to do nothing but make a mockery of our role amidst the magic of the world and the very fabric that we our destined to weave.
I'm sure you all have heard the old legends of a set of games that we, the princesses, have used to create life for as long as there has been time and I'm here to tell you now; each and everyone of those legends is mistaken at best or a prank from the goddess of the sun at worst. And yes, as much as it would be a dream if genetic traits got passed on one by one to each new being that is created they are not.
Sometimes I despise my sister for spreading such rumours.
At the start of time we were blessed by something with the power to create, to bend reality and life to form things. Something that, as the years passed, has proven to both be a blessing and a curse. And so, it seems it is time for our story to truly start.
When we first awoke I would like to say our destinies were laid bare before us, so we could read them like a book. Suffice to say they weren't. Rather than this we, that being my sister and I, were faced with what most would simply call a screen. This screen was, and still is, unlike anything I could imagine, it was a painting of everything a being could be. How their thoughts would travel, how their minds would wonder, what and who they are and ever will be.
Viewing portals to a desolate land littered the emptiness with nothing but dust and dirt flowing around in most, some had the occasional river that lapped at shores of rock and sand, a land that could be beautiful if only someone cared enough to carve it into a place worth living in.
The only other thing that littered the abyss were to celestial bodies that seem to follow us wherever we go, the sun and moon.
Naturally we took it with the grace and dignity you would expect from a pair of princesses.
That being Celestia dashing up to the screen, hitting the “Mirror” button, randomising a few aspects and then repeatedly hitting create. Suffice to say, my sister created a lot of monsters that day.
To get her to stop this, I did all I could and suggest we go through each part, step by step, and create beings of design whom we could be proud of, based around a competition at each step. After a while of snowballing ideas we created a game of skill, one that would test our ability of balance, of planning, of everything that would be needed to fabricate a set of perfect beings to populate the world.
A game most know as twister.
This would have worked in my favour if not for a simple flaw in the plan, my sister cheating by positioning the sun at the highest position and using it to weaken my composure such that I could no longer bare to stand.
There is a reason we fight so much.
With this, victory was certain for her. My strength sapped by a sun she wasn't effected by. My body fell giving the first bout to her.
With her confounded victory she approached the screen, each step leaving a soft echo as our hooves tracked along a surface we couldn’t be sure even existed. My hope that she would make use of her victory rocketed as I saw a look of pondering cross her face. She reached up for the screen as my breath hitched. And then she hit random. And all hope that she would take even this seriously fell and quite simply, I felt like just leaving. If I knew how I probably would have.
With my resolve strengthened by the idea of a world filled with nothing but the creatures my sister had already created, and many like it, I took action and created the first lunar eclipse which set us to equal ground. Single steps mirrored a struggle that would shape reality into something that could either be amazing or disastrous.
Whilst on more even ground I did manage to win a few bouts, giving life intelligence and resolve to fight whatever else was out there. Somehow managing to scrape together enough to push plants and creatures alike onto the world.
Amidst this Celestia marked almost all her victories with a simple decision of “random” with only two parts set otherwise for the first creatures that would inhabit our planet. That being that they worshipped day and that they were more comfortable around heat. The two things that I would have loved nothing more than to be left random.
Now, this may not seem to big a deal for those who haven't studied mythology, or believe it to be fake. But there are two major facts that are truths. The first and more commonly known is that we don't simply control the day and night, we are the very embodiments of them. The second, and lesser known one, is that we each have a single creature that was born with us.
For my sister it is the pheonix, a bird that has forever been worshipped and praised in such a way that most view it as a bird of pure nobility. Something that in the darkest times can bring hope and happiness to any that lay eyes upon it.
Mine is a creature that has been corrupted by time, one that once thrived on love and happiness now corrupted such that it is attracted to hate and steals all the love it can. The wendigo. Despite all attempts to fix them my sister still spreads hate for them, ensuring that they will forever be corrupt.
Oh how I hate these “pranks”.
And so, after what would have been several years if time flowed in that realm, we created almost all life known to pony-kind. Each being was placed on the planet with food and fauna enough to feed and house them until they learnt enough to feed themselves. They were carefully split up such that those that favoured water were placed in such, those for the sky got placed in mountains and caves that would shelter them and we resolved that we would join them on the planet with nothing but the bare basics, I carefully crafted a hut such that it would raise no suspicion. Placing it amongst beings that looked similar to myself so I could blend in.
Celestia created Canterlot Castle and declared herself, with me in a footnote, princesses of everything in existence.
One day I'll get fed up of her.
Many, many moons after our world was truly created, millions of years after the briefest spark of life was created, my sister was bored. She had been bored many times before, Discord existing is one such example of when she was bored and decided to, how shall I say, “Spice things up”. This, as anyone with any sense could tell you, was not something most would attribute to somepony who would rules parallel to me in the land of the two sisters.
For some reason it's attributed to me. After 'somepony' 'accidentally' writ a document that was left on a train in the middle of a crowded café specifically labled as belonging those of the moon.
“Pranks.”
There's a reason every time I've been the dominant princess they've been banned.
Anyway, I digress.
When she mutters that she's bored under her breath when we are attending a court I go out of my way to entertain her. The first thing I tried was changing our game once more, apparently chess is something that I lose even more than normal at and bores her greatly. Suffice to say that didn't last more than a single cycle.
The second, and most notable, attempt was in the creation of a third 'God class' being. Not fake 'God class' such as Discord, legitimate God class. Most now know her as Cadence, the Princess of love. Both fortunately and unfortunately we failed at actually making her at our tier, it seems impossible though that’s irrelevant at the moment. Our story centres around what she could have been. And the reason I got sent to the moon.
Back in the game room, or as most of the populace call it “The realm of the gods”, we were crafting a new game. The game itself isn't that important, it was essentially a version monopoly which gave us plenty of time to make important decisions on the creations of being. In other words Celestia somehow managed to learn to juggle, paint and write all at the same time.
And so, to try to get something productive of the session I made my proposition, a creature that could compete with us in our realm. One that would hopefully weigh in my favour and improve life for all.
Not that my sister cared.
Our game set and started, we had round after round. After the first 20 games and not even having a quarter of our creature designed we rapidly realised that this wouldn't work. How can a single game take 10 hours!
With this in mind I came up with what I thought was a brilliant plan. Getting rid of my sister from the realm so the being could be created without her … 'helpful' … input.
It could have gone better.
The first step of my plan was simple. Offer sweets.
The first step failed and backfired horribly when there weren't any sweets in her room as I promised there would be.
By the time she had returned to the realm my plan had been seen through to the end. A being designed to be truly balanced in each aspect. Love over flowing. Happiness and intelligence overflowing. Graceful and, quite simply, a pure being that should never have been put on our planet. Her design would have allowed us to never need to do these infernal games again.
Moonlight Sonata, named after the piece by Wheathoven, would be perfect.
Quickly pushing her design to creation with a single empty space for another design, I was happy.
But naturally, my sister has to return.
And naturally, even when I thought it was impossible, she messed it up.
Enraged by my ploy, she demanded she be allowed to create something. This in itself impressed me. She, in all our time, had never actually designed anything. Always simply opting to leave it random.
Considering how bad I was when we started, I should have seen it coming. She designed herself.
Literally.
What she designed was almost a perfect mirror of how she saw herself. I suppose I can't talk as my design was, in a way, a perfect version of me.
Both beings were perfect in there own way, flawed in parts but close.
Now, something we didn't realise was that it was possible for two positions to fuse. I'm sure it has happened in the past, admittedly we've never paid attention to the pool of creations once we've added them and considering most the time Celestia has them randomising, it wouldn't effect much anyway.
And what happens when two beings such as this mix?
Two messes. Weird right?
One of the new creatures was a ghastly pink, a mix of my coat and Celestias, the dark blue mixing with the cream to make it some how. The intelligence dropping drastically and all my aspirations somehow warping to be nothing more than shipping.
We squabbled over what we should do with the beings, naming them for example.
The name of mine and hers not fitting either of them any-more. Then again I'm pretty sure “Name of Son/Daughter” doesn't fit anything, curse her and the thousands she's lumped with this 'name'.
After a while, I won and named her Cadence. A slightly bastardised version of the name I originally wanted, though admittedly my original choice wouldn't fit any more.
Her suggestion was Midnight Sunshine.
Sometimes I relish the fact she uses default naming.
The other one, which she demanded to name was a red and black... creature supposedly... that she demanded to call “Special Fucking Snowflake”.
Because it was literally a snowflake.
A living snowflake.
I still feel sorry for the parents of that one.
With all this done however, my actions were not without consequence. Incensed by my actions she decided to take vengeance on me. Admittedly if the positions were reversed I would do the same but for different reasons.
She summoned a creature that infested my mind from the realm of the banished, a nightmare.
Painting this as the reason she used it as an excuse to use the elements of harmony to blast me to the moon.
I would have agreed with all of this.
If she did it because I went behind her back.
But she did it because I didn't give her the promised cookies.
If it was possible I would banish her permanently.
